I have heard about these corn sellers before, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen one in action. It sure does the job. You and your daughters are in my prayers 🙏
We had one that me and my brother would shell corn for daddy. Ours didn't have a number on it. Enjoying the videos keep up the good work and God bless you
I don't know if you'll see this msg since I just watched this video and you tube said it was 6months old but I have to say that was pretty dang slick. Makes me wonder how did someone come up with the idea for that sheller. More importantly I'm not sure how that cob doesn't just fall out of the sheller and into the box. Thank you again for sharing another part of your wealth if knowledge with us Justin. May you have a good one. Have fun take care
that SLOW MOTION is perfection..😁 since that first video I watched from THE HOLLARS, using that ancient machine, i was fascinated and at the same time can't help wander, "HOW DID THAT shell went the opposite direction of its starting point?" FINALLY, I can sleep ..😂😂😂 I think I've watched enough of your videos to make this assumption : your channel is GOING BACK TO BASIC & PRACTICAL ... I learn a thing or every time I listen, then watched your video.. my job REQUIRED my eyes, so I plugged my ears with your channel and other channels too, then on my breaks I watched where I MUST see what you have just described.. keep them coming video.. GOD BLESD YOU AND YOUR GIRLS..
My dad had one of the box type shellers with the big iron wheel on the side. Us kids would get that baby cranking and pitch the corn in. It would shell 3-4 ears before it would wind down.
Thanks Justin for another great video. Always enjoy your videos. Have a wonderful weekend. When I was about ten years old I would work for a lady and shell corn on one of those for hours.
Justin I have an old fashioned corn sheller that has a large cast-iron wheel on the inside of it. When you hand crank it to get the momentum of the wheels spinning, there is a tray on top that you push the corn cob down into the receiving chute. Even put a large vessel underneath the shoot to catch the corn and the Cobs are easy to separate from that corn. I don't shell corn with it but I do shell off the hulls of my walnuts with it. Ìt has two settings on it for various sizes of cobs and/or walnuts. Hopefully next year I can put an electric motor on it to keep that Heavy wheel spinning but I don't wear my arm out!
Gotta say that I’ve neither seen nor heard of a corn sheller. Guess I’ll need to search for one to go with my grist mill when I find one. What a useful invention and no electricity required. You’ve opened my eyes to a world I knew little to nothing about, bruh! Keep going, I have so much to learn. Thank you!
I will let you know when I find some also. If you want a mill let me know. I have several that will be for sale. I am so glad to share what I know. Thank you for watching !
@@metcalfmills5679 I sure appreciate that, my friend. It’ll probably be next year before I can do anything, but I’d sure like to get one someday. (I need to finish my house. Drywall, heat and indoor plumbing.)
Ok...I need a corn Sheller! That’s really cool! As the years have progressed...I do believe man has made things too complicated! Thank you for sharing.😊
This is the first time I have seen this instrument. Fantastic! I remember shucking corn by hand at my grandfathers farm. Guess he believed in busy hands don't make mischief.
There was a squirrel outside my window while I was watching this and his jaw hit the ground when you started cranking that thing!! 🤣🤣😜 It really is a cool gadget and makes quick work of a lot of corn. You definitely don’t need a gym membership when you are on the working end of those things either!! I hope y’all have a great weekend, I know it has to be getting pretty chilly there for you to have on a jacket!
Ha ha Lea ! It I s a workout to do a lot of corn ! I hope that you do too ! Thank you ! Yeah we hit 31 the other day so from now on jacket and shirts until spring..
Wish we had had one of those when I was a kid! I can still feel how sore my hands got between the thumb and forefinger getting the corn off the cob. But those were the days :)
Thank you Kelly ! They have a good range, it just depends. I have seen a lot of them 50-100$ without the box. If you have trouble finding one let me know.
Hi Justin, do you know where a good gristmill like the one in your video where you dressed the stone's? I could even add an electric motor, but I would buy one if you know where a good one is, because I trust that you would know a good one. I have a cheap electric mill, but it isn't really good at making the flour out of the wheat i put in it, and the flour gets to hot. I also doubt that I could do corn. I don't need a real big one, because my granny was in the great depression and she had a small one that had a wood case If I remember right, but that was over 40 year's ago when I was a young kid. I looked at other new one's, and the thing's are junk, and I worry about aluminum, or the other metal's that just don't last. I have MS and the muscle's on my left side are weak, and i can't feel my hand, which makes doing thing's kinda hard, like buttoning a shirt drive's me crazy. The wheat i buy is non radiated non gmo, and I am trying to get better quality food because it might slow the progression down. Let me know if you can find one, I live in michigan, and will pay you if you have one. Thank you for your time, and God bless.
Thank you for asking WGO. I do not at the moment but I will have you in mind when I do. I will start looking. Hate to hear that my friend. Will be praying for you and doing what I can to help you. God bless you too
@@metcalfmills5679 If I don’t find one, I’d like to be added to that list, too. I might have found an old corn sheller, but I’m unsure whether or not it’s still available. I’m in no hurry because heat in my house and indoor plumbing, perimeter fence come first. But once these are completed, I’ll be looking. Maybe next spring/summer.
Justin, either your hat is too small or your head is too big. Lol. I plant Hickory King white and Reids Yellow Dent. Those old shellers are a life saver. Thanks for your video, my friend.

Nice! This will be an addition to our farmstead 🤘
The older tools are the best. I have 100 yr old parlor treadle sewing machine with the original wooden pitman rod.
That’s great ! You know what a pitman rod is !!!

Glad you enjoy. Thank you!
Now,that’s a well worthwhile device for corn ! Can you use it for cutting the nibblets of corn off cob to eat for dinner time also ! ❤️🙏🏻💕
Thank you. You are a great young man.
Aw thanks Toni. I hope that I can help in some way.
Wow! I’d love to shell dry corn with that machine. Looks like a rewarding task. Thanks
It sure is, a lot of fun !
I grew up the same as you using the same equipment -great video
Thanks for sharing !
Thank you.
Bought a sheller at a farm auction last Saturday.
My first one.
Thats great!!
They don’t make it like they used to. Glad you were able to keep a heirloom running. I’ve never seen one of these from my parts
that right there is one cool piece of machinery, enjoyed the video , thank you
Glad to hear it Mary !
neat.thats great how it takes the cob back
Thanks Larry
Just got one off ebay for 90. can't wait to use it next year. I will have to do a video for my channel too. Thanks, God bless!
That’s great BAH ! God bless you too !
Yea been waiting. I've seen these old shellers before that's cool how it spits out the cob. Have a great weekend get those mustard greens.
Thank you, hope you do too ! I have been eating mustard greens but every time I cook them we have company ! Gonna make a video soon !
This video is the bomb, especially liked watching the slow motion shelling.
Glad you enjoyed it PN !
Great work😍 😍👍❤

Enjoyed! I have a black hawk with a nubber, no idea how old it is. Could be be from the 1800's. Still works great
Them ol blackhawks are good. Thanks for sharing Ron
That is awesome. I have never seen one working before. Thank you so much for showing how the corn sheller works.

Ingenious design of our forefathers! Still applicable today. Thank you for the tutorial.

I just bought one from Lehman’s for about 85 dollars, on back order.

Glad you got one
I love grits, but more on the savory side, not sweet.
Yep, salt and maybe a little pepper and butter. Don’t forget the butter !!!
Genius design. They don’t make anything like that anymore
Sure is Matt !
Very cool
🥰👍🙏🏻🌷
I refurbishing one now.
Have you ever made any videos on Smoke Houses? I am really interested
Not on my channel but I will in the future.
I love your channel. I'm trying to use mostly hand tools like that. About how much does one of those go for?
Thank you Kelly ! They have a good range, it just depends. I have seen a lot of them 50-100$ without the box. If you have trouble finding one let me know.
is that how it works???
No I was just kiddin😆
How do you deal with the kernels that the weevils damaged?
If that happens, which it usually don’t, I just freeze it. Then when I plant I just plant it thick and then thin it to what I want…
Facts are hard to come by?
Not on my channel !!
