It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering how to generate your own electricity minus the normal expense. This is glorious, I been tryin to find out about "how can i lower my electric bill in the summer?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. 11/12 - or use an air fryer! I use my air fryer almost exclusively and very rarely ever use my actual oven. It’s faster and uses much less electricity.

The tip on using off peak hours actually helps the inviorment here in Copenhagen. This is bc alot of our power comes from windmills and u cant store the energy from them. So on off peak hours a lot of their energy goes to waste where in the peak hours we have to power up the coal plants :)

We added a water heater timer to our electric water heater. We don't need hot water at night, and really only use hot water early morning and at dinner time.

One thing that annoys me with dishwashers and resources is the attitude of owners. The actual thing is they say a dishwasher uses less water. However, the person saying that will leave the kitchen tap running while rinsing all their dishes and stacking them in the dishwasher. I can't see that saving water. No, I do not have a dishwasher (obviously I'm not in America) but I have lived in houses which have had one.
I don't rinse. No need if your dishwasher works properly. I also let air dry. My kitchen is very small and there's no place to stack dishes after washing if done by hand.

I looked up the different fridges. Side by side with water and ice dispenser suck the most electricity, top freezer doors use the least.
I don’t own a place yet but will definitely keep these tips in mind!
I bought a nice full size natural gas grill and use this to make ALL of my meals on it... You can even use it like an oven if needed. I haven't used my electric range in over a year. 🤔
this is soooo good information for young adults that are living in a city and feel like there is no much they can do to save the environment! Also how this tips save you money! I need to share this to all my friends !!

it's not a matter of " cold air " escaping when opening your fridge. Having actual mass that can retain it's coldness ( actually resisting absorption of thermal energy ) is what helps the refrigerator be more efficient. I keep the freezer packed... but you should leave at least. 1/2 " gap around the edges to allow air to circulate and to allow proper defrost cycles. More thermal mass means you rely much less on having "cold" air in the fridge to maintain efficiency.
I use motion detection night lights or battery-operated almost exclusively for my lighting at night.
Have your hacks can't wait for the bathroom and kitchen packs great job

My electricity bill is around 50€ per month (Germany). I‘m shocked that there are people paying 600€ per year (=my electricity bill for a year!) only for running their fridge! Wow!
I mean... I have a very small fridge, my dish washer doesn‘t even have a drying function etc... 😂🙈
This is why there are so many rebate programs available! Older fridges us A LOT of energy. It's wild.
My utility bill for one month was $898 smh only because the landlord failed to tell us that the heater wasn't compatible with the house and they turned on the emergency heater which ran up our bill 😢. I'll use all these tips 🙏🏾
For the fridge, I sold my old one to someone who wanted it for a cottage. I was glad it didn’t go to the waste land yet

The risk of turning down your hot water temperature is that it doesn't kill any bacteria, so what is the lowest safest temperature without compromising your health.

I totally struggle with the laundry machine! We workout outside and our clothes need to be washed same day or the stink just doesn’t wash out. But we always use cold water! We have a brand new washer so luckily it is pretty efficient and uses very little water as it always senses the size of the load. It doesn’t even have a dial for load size!
I add vinegar to my wash to remove odors

tip the squares in beetween the ice qube tray squares that where you should focus your water steam so it fulls up more easily less spils
i think using diswasher machine is a waste of energy, most people in asian country washes dishes manually - using your hand and using organic washing dish soap and using loofah scrub or coconut husk
i also think there many layers that we have to go through when talking about saving energy because often it tangle with other subjects like saving water. For example using low flow fauchet reduces the need to pump water thus reducing the need for electricity (pumping water from the home reservoir or home well). both saves water and electric. and your monthly bill. Designing natural flow of water using grabity reduces the need to pump using electricity, designing grey water to be reuse for plants watering also save water n pumping water just to water the plant .. i mean there are lotsof things that we all can improve
It's a trade off because using a dishwasher is much more efficient in terms of water usage. The average modern dishwasher only uses 3-5 gallons of water and most people use a lot more than that when handwashing, and you'd need to be handwashing in cold water to not have the addition of extra energy being used for heat.
@@GoingZeroWaste I do not have a dishwasher. I did. In Australia most homes do not have the double sink like in America. I have a small sink, which fits all my cleaning needs. I scrap off food gunk first. I only use 3.5 gallons of water and garden friendly detergent. I do not have water running whilst scraping off the food gunk, which goes into the compost. I also don't have the space in my kitchen or laundry.

@@pigstain7531 Do you mean me? My sink only holds 15 litres, which is less than 4 gallons. You can't put that much water in it and then put dishes in too

I would love to see the top 10 wasteful habits you miss and/ or have not found substitutes for!! I have given up about five things, once they ran out, that I haven't found a substitute for 🤭
Great tips. Thanks. However you didn't mention taking unused appliances or tvs, lights, out of the plug when away from home long periods of time. Except the fridge.
FYI. We have a Samsung French door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. It is only a couple of years old. It recently broke down and our repair man said he doesn’t recommend that brand with that style because he has seen a lot of breakdowns. It has something to do with the back getting too frozen and then a piece breaks and then it won’t keep cold. It was about a $400 repair. So just keep that in mind if you are shopping for a new frig.
I don't recommend freezer under refrigerators! They are the most prone to breaking. We rent so really can't control it, but I wouldn't buy one. Great tips, wish I had mentioned that.

My electric bill is equal in spring or summer. There is no difference. It seems the AC units are not turned on during the summer. All the heat hitting the house is removed by small amount of waters.
I only invested 60 US dollars on the system. Instantaneous results. We got summer temperatures of 40 C (104 F) every summer.
Would love more tips like this. Our bill has slowly been going up over the last few years and I cannot figure it out for the life of me.
i suggest you browse articles on the internet on how to save electricity, how to save water, how to have a sustainable blue-grey water system in your home ( www.waterfootprint.org is a good start ) , home DIY that saves water usage and electrical usage (often we have to opt to manual tools/methodes), rethink on the electrical machines in your home and find out is there a way to do it manually with no electricity, etc. go to instagram n look for easy tips on how to have a sustainable home

Energy rates have probably increased too. I know that mine definitely have over the last few years, but I know that these tips will definitely help make a small dent when added together. Running appliances off peak will probably help a lot!
Don’t forget costs of inflation every year it goes up.
We have found that a front load washer which uses low kwh has really lowered our electric and water bill. A refrigerator that has a top freezer, uses low kwh and is energy star has really helped too. We also don't use the dryer much.

I live in 3 bedroom of 1300sq house . I don’t use my central heater / AC small heaters in each room , one small Unit AC can cool off our whole house. We don’t use dishwasher . During Christmas we light our Christmas tree with on and off self-timer . Our December bill Was $329 can you imagine if I use all the appliances?

If you close the valves going into and out of the tank water heater (gas or electric), the heat will remain longer inside the tank. No heat losses through the water pipes. Plastic valves are better than metallic ones to conserve heat.
So I like to use Christmas lights the white lights instead of the big light and only at night if needed (I personally do not like using the big light) is that more or less energy saving ?

I’m a brand new home owner and my house is all electric. Thank you for this video. I think the biggest issue we have is the electric baseboard heaters. It feels like they barely work and I’m always cold. And I try to keep the thermostat at 72.

If you have a draft in your home, you end up having to keep your home cool/warm for long periods of time. Make sure that there aren't any cracks or check around windows/doors for any air that might be coming in from outside!

half of these tips are about the fridge lol I have a better hack just turn to lower the bill - just shut off the power and use candles for light and a cooler for food, or ferment the foods. Guarantee savings of upwards of 100%
