Same here. Usually I try to select my characters in a random way except in this fight. In this fight I use Magus, Ayla and Marle. Magus for the theme and the two girls to steal the prism gear and the megaelixirs.
@@fernandoivangalindoarroyo9586 I tried that strategy before I found out about the Death Peak quest. After that, I succeeded with Magus, Crono and Marle.
Magus is the only party member without a doppelganger in the final room. I know it's because he's "optional" but I always thought it was interesting nonetheless.
This fight is one of the main reasons I take Magus with me on the Black Omen. When I fight Zeal I'm straight jammin' to his theme. The other is that Magus is a goddamn boss.
It's kind of sad that Zeal was so blinded by her thurst for power and conquest that she never recognised Magus was her son and Magus straights up refuses to speak about it because in his eyes, the mother he once knew was long dead and what stood in front of him was nothing more than a heartless puppet controlled by lavos.
magus theme is my favorite theme in the whole game. every time i hear it it gives me goosebumps. it would have been awesome if magus fights with zeal alone like frog vs magus.
If they ever remake this game, I hope Magus is solo in this fight (Like a challenge boss for more RP and story) You would have to spare Magus, coin flip on Crono (but have it one of the other, not both) and have Magus in your party. Zeal does an attack that KO's the other two members. Magus is alone, does his speech and reveals just a bit about himself, and then gets revenge for Schala!
Love that touch during the third part of the battle with Queen Zeal. I thought it was standard until I did this battle without Magus in the party, heard the standard big boss theme and then I realized the extra touch that was added for when Magus is in the party. Talk about groundbreaking and truly ahead of its time. Such an incredible game that still stands the test of time even today. Even now, few other games hold a candle to this masterpiece.
Nah. Janus was always her little brother. Schala would have only been in her late teens during the events of the game anyway, with Janus maybe ten or so until his growing into Magus.
all those anime girls either look 14 or 40 or 5 so it was hard to tell if she was his mottter or not. Because there is so much extra you can take in expanded story wise in the sky world.
Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree though. Magus became a ruthless albeit great leader and used countless beings all for his single-minded goal that centered around Lavos.
To be fair, Lavos was a world-ending threat. Magus was merely a kingdom conqueror. Also, the only reason anyone else even accepted the idea of the existence of a being like Lavos is because they literally saw it happen in the future - Magus himself, with no known access to time travel, wouldn't have been able to convince anyone. He did what he thought he had to. Once Magus realizes the adventurers who beat him are collectively stronger than he is, AND already on the same quest to destroy Lavos, he's actually willing to duel Frog even if it results in his own death, and will even tell the group with his dying words that there's a way to save Crono. He's not so far gone that he won't submit to the judgement of those he's wronged.
@@zena2239 This game used a lot of tricks specifically designed around the SNES's oddball hardware. All the ports are stuck emulating those features. The PS1 struggles with it, being only one generation ahead of the SNES.

I love how Magus's theme plays for this fight (though you have to have Magus for it to play. Would have been cool if it didn't matter if he was there or not).
Oh, I just love how Magus just replaces the battle theme for his theme.
Yeah, that was a nice touch. His theme also kicked up in the ending where he faced Lavos.
alienspacebat No it didn't...
Kaiser Dragon I'm talking about the ending where after the credits he goes to the Ocean Palace as the prophet and says "I must simply laugh."
alienspacebat I must have missed that...

His battle theme deserved it lol

Magus: For epicness matricide.
Goddamn it! This meme here does fit!

Magus: Nope, we are not fighting you. YOU are fighting ME.

i always wondered if zeal knew that magus was her son
Probably not
If she did she, she didn't care
I think that at this point she was so messed up with Lavos' power that she probably didn't recognize him at all.
She only saw Magus as the prophet who lied to her, so I doubt it
She referred to him as the prophet all her life. Lavos brainwashed her.

There are few accessories which enable new Triple Techs and at least two of them include Magus. They are very powerful.
