If you look at the historical context, there was eating and talking etc. while the orchestra was playing. If the audience clapped hard the parts they clapped at were repeated and so on. I don't know why classical music is so stiff nowadays. It scares people away and that is kind of sad.

The discussion about decorum in classical music performances is really good. I hope there will be a more collective discussion about this between musicians/artists. Times are changing and more and more young people or non-classical music heads are getting attracted to classical music and I think these things are also important to know. Thank you Sara and Ray!

I am really amazed because this is the very first time that I got aware of a cough during that silence. I think this is because every time I heard this piano concerto, I was so focused on Sara’s impression so that I didn’t pay attention to anything else. This is a magic.

I was fascinated with this conversation with Alice. It was only within the last year or so that I came across videos on UA-cam of concerts that she has performed. I was very impressed with her great musical talent and wondered what sort of person she is. Now I know... she is a rare and priceless gem!

Oh man, I found this May 2020, the pandemic had barely begun, and this was cute as hell. Now it's Feb 2021, and this is even cuter! I had the pleasure of listening to Ray Chen in a concert in Lisbon, Portugal, at Gulbenkian Auditorium with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra. Actually, a few days before, he had been stuck in Oporto Airport for some reason and busted out his violin and played some music to pass the time and make people more comfortable. Such an awesome story. We need more of this in our lives. Please Ray, make another stream with Alice, she is wonderful, you both are. Kind regards and well done and keep at it! I"m glad that they have a dialogue in the course of giving feedback to the pianists who submitted videos, it at least potentially helps them ingest the 'recommendations' or observations, makes the 'feedback' more absorbable to them without it being threatening.
Firstly it was my first time watching both Alice and Ray in an interview and honestly no idea where the two hours flew lol. Secondly even though you both apparently know each other rather than a first time interview, Alice's positive nature is so amazing and If I was anything in her capacity to play (and not that I do) it's easy to be a diva which she chose not to and completely overlooked the total technical difficulties. I think the goofiness from Ray added to the relaxed environment as well even though a master in his own class. I know I will be watching this interview a couple of times 👍. Thirdly to all who play so beautifully thank you for what you do for us who love to hear 🙂 Classical music is so soothing especially in this crazy world we live in.

I love this series, Ray! Keep it going. The part where Alice talked about the silence in between movements was very enlightening. I learn something new with every episode of this series.

Like I said before I had the pleasure of attending a performance with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal a few years ago. I knew little of you then, and I still do (I'm ashamed for this), but I remember how much you struck with me. Luckily I found you again on this video on UA-cam in 2020, in the year of the great pandemic, and I realised how much Life (yes, capital L) owes to classical Music and people like yourself and Sara that keep it up through the centuries. This was very interesting, getting the insightful views of such an accomplish pianist as Alice Sara Ott was nice…everyone has there different styles or interpretations of the Classics, if only I was a musician, an not just someone who enjoy listening..I enjoyed this, sometime we forget that even artist are real people, who are inspiration for upcoming young pianists…thank you!!
Wow, it's a piano review, and I only see the contestants' fingers!!! How does that person's play, I only see his fingers and the keys! I'm having so much fun! The violin is small compared to the piano, but the sound of the strings ringing the body is fascinating, Ray!👍🏻✨👑🎻🌞
What a great example of everything we assume to be "right" for no reason. Under what would appear as a single creative move with a transition between movements really does lie an effort to illuminate better paths forward in a sea of arbitrary traditions.
Wow, this is very cool. I had the pleasure of attending a performance with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal a few years ago and was struck with how so fresh and positive his personality was. (not to mention the excellent performance) These two really bring much positivity and freshness, I feel. And how nice it is, on this day and age, with all the technology we have, that we can have these kinds of meetings and be able to share them and partake in them. Just a few decades ago it would be reserved for a very select few. So thanks Ray and Alice for this :) I'm not a musician myself, but I imagine the feedback and comments provided to the video performers are very valuable :)

Taken that for granted, seeing the two of you, all wonderful artists, talking about music was really great and gave a huge motivation to boost my interest in both, and hope the collaboration & offstage goes on!

This is hard for me because I've loved classical music for a long time but also anime for a long time. I can totally imagine in my head an anime with both Alice and Ray together playing different pieces and discussing different things about music. In fact this childish image is not unlike the anime "Nodame Cantabile". Alice could SO EASILY be transferred to the cute anime stereotype (lol) but underneath so amazingly talented (like she is). Also Ray, with his asian looks but really australian way could be a n interesting twist on the anime stereotype. (Btw running a stream with a video all and also video files playing is though work, so Ray don't beat yourself up). It's so fun to have both of them so approachable in the stream but also so exquisite when playing on their won on concertos, etc. Well done.

Overview

If you look at the historical context, there was eating and talking etc. while the orchestra was playing. If the audience clapped hard the parts they clapped at were repeated and so on. I don't know why classical music is so stiff nowadays. It scares people away and that is kind of sad.

I am really amazed because this is the very first time that I got aware of a cough during that silence. I think this is because every time I heard this piano concerto, I was so focused on Sara’s impression so that I didn’t pay attention to anything else. This is a magic.
All of Ray's offstage with different musicians are so informative. Like one can acquire different ideas on how to better one's self not just in music but in life as a whole.

I was fascinated with this conversation with Alice. It was only within the last year or so that I came across videos on UA-cam of concerts that she has performed. I was very impressed with her great musical talent and wondered what sort of person she is. Now I know... she is a rare and priceless gem!

Oh man, I found this May 2020, the pandemic had barely begun, and this was cute as hell. Now it's Feb 2021, and this is even cuter! I had the pleasure of listening to Ray Chen in a concert in Lisbon, Portugal, at Gulbenkian Auditorium with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra. Actually, a few days before, he had been stuck in Oporto Airport for some reason and busted out his violin and played some music to pass the time and make people more comfortable. Such an awesome story. We need more of this in our lives. Please Ray, make another stream with Alice, she is wonderful, you both are. Kind regards and well done and keep at it! She is such a wonderful person
Firstly it was my first time watching both Alice and Ray in an interview and honestly no idea where the two hours flew lol. Secondly even though you both apparently know each other rather than a first time interview, Alice's positive nature is so amazing and If I was anything in her capacity to play (and not that I do) it's easy to be a diva which she chose not to and completely overlooked the total technical difficulties. I think the goofiness from Ray added to the relaxed environment as well even though a master in his own class. I know I will be watching this interview a couple of times 👍. Thirdly to all who play so beautifully thank you for what you do for us who love to hear 🙂 Classical music is so soothing especially in this crazy world we live in.
Both Ray and Alice are my favorite musician, great show, loved it!

Like I said before I had the pleasure of attending a performance with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal a few years ago. I knew little of you then, and I still do (I'm ashamed for this), but I remember how much you struck with me. Luckily I found you again on this video on UA-cam in 2020, in the year of the great pandemic, and I realised how much Life (yes, capital L) owes to classical Music and people like yourself and Sara that keep it up through the centuries. Thank you for all your performances and work in these kind of streams/videos. Keep it up, please!

I had the pleasure of attending a performance with Ray Chen and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal a few years ago and was struck with how so fresh and positive his personality was. (not to mention the excellent performance) These two really bring much positivity and freshness, I feel. And how nice it is, on this day and age, with all the technology we have, that we can have these kinds of meetings and be able to share them and partake in them. Just a few decades ago it would be reserved for a very select few. So thanks Ray and Alice for this :) I'm not a musician myself, but I imagine the feedback and comments provided to the video performers are very valuable :)

This is hard for me because I've loved classical music for a long time but also anime for a long time. I can totally imagine in my head an anime with both Alice and Ray together playing different pieces and discussing different things about music. In fact this childish image is not unlike the anime "Nodame Cantabile". Alice could SO EASILY be transferred to the cute anime stereotype (lol) but underneath so amazingly talented (like she is). Also Ray, with his asian looks but really australian way could be a n interesting twist on the anime stereotype. (Btw running a stream with a video all and also video files playing is though work, so Ray don't beat yourself up).
It's so fun to have both of them so approachable in the stream but also so exquisite when playing on their won on concertos, etc. Well done.
