Disappointed to see you keep tge door at the same place rather then moving it where tge window is..
Of course if we did move the door we would step right out into a step which would be impractical. Sorry to hear you’re disappointed.
Does anyone else admire the grace and poise that Tara has as she moves through her life?
Agreed 100%
Yes, she is truly amazing…
Yes, foresure. Love this couple. Thanks for the nice video Tara. Melinda from South-Africa ❤🎉❤
Crusoe’s “sorry about that” just made my heart sing. 🥰
I missed seeing João today.
Working without him must have its challenges. He is an amazingly able, hard working and knowledgeable young man for his age
It definitely has it's challenges Julie but we are just so lucky to have his help 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
John is a master at his craft, at whatever he puts his mind to 😊
Totally agree.
Really?
@@wayneguy6043 yes really
@@paddysandymcmillan8160 I don’t see it
Hi John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer…….such a lot of hard work for something that will, in the long run be temporary, but it is a marvel to us all to see Johns vision coming to life….what a talent to have. The veggie garden is coming along well and it’s great to see you have more faith in your efforts Tara…I’m sure you will have a great harvest. Best wishes and ❤ Julie 😊
Hello Julie, great to hear from you again. He is a very talented man and I am so proud of him! Thanks so much for your best wishes, they mean the world to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
I love the idea that if you are forced to remove the roof on the temporary structure that it's beams become an arbor for food vines.
Thanks Nanci! We love having it as a plan B ❤️❤️
I love watching your family build your farm. So gratifying to watch!
Thank you for joining us on our different adventures Chrissi, we love having you here 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
YOU two definitely have the right attitude. Sometimes it all seems so complicated, but press on regardless. Spring has finally come to Canet.
Thank you so so much friend! Your support means so much to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Great job on the building , John . Your craftsmanship is outstanding! My late husband was a contractor, journeyman carpenter and watching you build brings me memories of those times as well the excitement of your building. Keep it up . Oh to be young again , Tara ! Watching you working the garden and the hundreds of other things you do daily is no small task. Your patience raising the boys is great also. Love watching the videos and seeing the boys growing up . They are a joy to watch.
Thanks so much friend, you are so kind! Your support means so much to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
The Newbys family, you are the best ever. Its always a pleasure watching you guys.❤❤❤
Thanks so much friend! We love hearing from you 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
You two are doing such a great job with your videos, the content and language used is spot on to entertain us all, I don’t know how you do it all, and remain so happy and healthy. The boys are growing up so fast, Sawyer is coming on in leaps and bounds, weekly. Obi is the icing on the cake. I might use that schooling site to improve my own Maths…!
Thanks so much Lucy! ❤️❤️
Yay!!! Wednesday video!!! Keep up the good vibes Newbys. I recommended your channel to a friend Canadian couple who just bought a house in Portugal. They fell in love with your videos 😊
Hi Vani! Great to hear from you. Thank you so much for recommending our channel, we appreciate all of your support. We do hope that your friends enjoy their time here in Portugal! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
I love your videos and watching you both working together and on your own projects but all is for the farm and the amazing lifestyle you have. Tara, I am keen to see how your ‘no till’ garden works out, I am a fan of crop rotation and growing ‘green’ manure to be dug into the soil and break down for the next food crop. I am also very interested to see if you will be using any natural insecticides to combat the grubs and bugs that were enjoying your crops last year. In the past I have mixed Vegemite with warm water and sprayed on plants with aphid infestations and the spray has drawn in ladybirds to eat the aphids. John, the build is looking great, glad you have scrapped the mezzanine idea.
Love the vision coming to life. You could buy a long sofa/couch for this room, L shaped or a sofabed for alternate sleeping. Your garden will be amazing and the arch beautiful.
Thanks friend! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Is there any way you can rethink digging out the kitchen floor, it seems like overkill for a smallish problem, lots of people have to duck their heads in old houses, otherwise is there is another solution?
The build coming along John well done. Nice climber for the sweetpeas Tara good job. Loved watching John Tara Crusoe and Sawyer😘
Thanks Annette! It was a good day for us on the farm. Your support means so much to us friend, thank you 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹

Hi guys, my wife and I have been watching your videos for over a year now and you have become part of our family. We live in Italy and have being restoring our 3 floor house which also has a backyard with a tiny house similar to yours, a barn and... A church! That will be a massive project we plan on converting next year, once our backyard is ultimated.
Keep up the good work you're such a lovely family! You're our weekly appointment together with Raising voyagers, Mr&Mrs Adventure, Dan Preston and his chateau and Martin Doolard here in Italy. Thanks for being so inspiring for our own projects.
Ciao from Italia!❤
do you have a UA-cam channel?
@@DebWh Hi Deb, I've thought about it often but we both have day jobs and it wouldn't be possible as editing and prepping the cameras is time consuming. So unfortunately we don't. Maybe one day we'll manage to post some before/after pics on FB or YT to share our ideas. Thanks for asking.
Hi Niki, great to hear from you. Thanks so much for your support and it sounds like you have an incredible project on the go too! Best of luck with all your renovations, we appreciate all your love and send you lots of love ❤️❤️
Everything is looking great!!!!
Such great finish work John. Tara your joy found in your garden exploits is contagious! Congratulations 😅
Thanks so much for watching friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Wow!
This extra living space seemed to just pop up!
From an elevation drawing to the real thing!
Jon does work fast when he’s motivated to do so!
Must be exciting to think soon you’ll have another big space to stretch out in under cover!
And to look outside through a large slider and window!
Lovely!
I love your ideas, after all it's your family's journey, it does not have to please or make sense to everyone, l am on board, thank you John and Tara for sharing with us, l am a big fan xxx❤❤❤
Thank you Donna, we love having you as part of our journey 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Tara do not put yourself down you are a lovely kind mum and wife
You don’t realise how talented you are and I love listening too you all.xxxx
Thank you so much friend ❤️❤️
Tara, you have a gift of the perfect words at the perfect time in the perfect way. I love the way you think and describe your thoughts. I hope to not make you self conscious. I wish I could be half as eloquent as you are.
Another beautiful day in Portugal…aaahhh! Your extension is going to look fab! Love watching the process and how you go about it John. Tara you have such a nice way to communicate your love of the farm, inspirational! Thank you.
Thanks Louise! Your support means so much to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
John, you come up with such great ideas and are not afraid to just go ahead and build. I love watching your ideas pan out. Tara, you have so much patience. Taking all those peas and connecting them to the fence is stressful as those little vines don't always do what you want them to do. You will have a great garden.
Thanks so much Helen! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
I just love the dialogue, contemplating and overall thinking aloud. The loft could become a valuable storage space to consider.
John has skills !!❤. It’s looking good 👍.
Snap peas 🫛 are happy to have a place to climb !!!
And what really makes me chuckle.. is how Crusoe walks up to John’s worksite like a BOSS !! With a swagger and casting an eye around as if to say “ ok, what have you done here , and how am I gonna fix it ?!” He’s so adorable 🥰
John is absolutely amazing at what he does Holly and yes I love the swagger Crusoe has too 😂😂
You two are simply amazing just watching your videos are such a lift , your attitude to life is just lovely x
To see John build is quite inspirational. It has given us some nice ideas for our own place. Tara you will be ok in the garden.
You learned a lot last year and you will keep learning more as you go. We are still waiting for spring weather, would be nice to
have some sunny days and do more outside. Have a lovely week and see you Sunday. love to you all..
We are so happy to hear that Anja, thanks for the support. Enjoy the rest of your week friend, we can't wait to see you again on Sunday 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Yes! Now the fun work!
Thanks so much for watching Marietje! See you again on Sunday 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
It’s amazing how much fun you two are making this building adventure! Each video is more beautiful than the last. I love the music, the compressions, mixed in with the slow motion moments! The layers of artistry are wonderful. Plus! The boys are the best, sweetest, little comedians ever!❤
Thanks Skye, we are having a great time indeed! Thanks so much for watching 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
You garden is beginning to look lovely. Love how Crusoe used his pliers also.
John has to be one of the hardest working men on UA-cam. And builds such beautiful things. Can’t wait to see this temporary house he is building for the family.
Thank you friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Watching you attach the peas I remember how fiddly that can be. I tie a piece of string one end of trellis about half way down the growing peas current height and attach at other end. Pull up gently which lifts them up toward the trellis, then they’ll take off in the right (upward) direction!! ❤ 👋 🇦🇺
Amazing Sally, thanks for the advice 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
So nice to see the garden comming along
The build and the garden are coming along fabulously.
As always, Crusoe made me giggle with his sweet little voice and his helpfulness.
Thank you so much for sharing your life and adventures with us. I follow a few of your Portugal homestead friends and I must say I feel a real draw to Portugal. Your lifestyle, although I know hard work seem so healthy to me.
Bless your beautiful family. ❤ from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks Deb, we are so pleased with the projects! Thanks so much for watching and for the support all the way in Canada 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Boy, the ideas about building are so different there! It is interesting that a wood structure would be considered temporary and a stone one permanent! Even if you addition cant keep the addition, your idea of just taking off the roof to converting it to a pergola,(not pagoda) is brilliant!
Tara, your garden is beautiful and thriving! I've used the same type of wire mesh to train my peas too! I guess that i planted mine earlier, so it is already blooming. Ive also already planted tomatoes, eggplant, the scarlet runner beans are emerging and the beets have leaves, but have not formed. I have been harvesting the mustard and the daikon radish tops to cook. I appreciate that the dandelion greens are always available! The rain and sun has given the garden a boost and everything is growing well, but the weather has also caused "peach leaf curl", a fungus that deformes the leaves and fruit. I could have sprayed the trees for leaf curl, but it has to be done before the leaves emerge. Now my only option is to pick off all of the infected leaves. If i dont, the fruit will be infected and inedible.
What would you plant to grow over your possible pergola? I thought about the table grapes that i planted along the fence years ago. I usually prune them in January and use the vine cuttings to make wreaths to give away. This year i didnt, but was surprised to see that there were more baby grapes forming on the vine that i didnt prune. I guess i will see what happens to the quality of the grapes.
Anxious to see the growth of your beautiful garden and pergola/room addition! ❤
You are doing a great job in all areas! Give yourself a pat on the back! You learned and absorbed a lot of what Jarrell taught you side by side. You’ve got this!
Thank you Debre 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Congratulations Joel on going to university this year.
The vegetable garden is becoming great, Tara. You are doing a good and hard work for a future great harvest.John, what you've already done is beautiful. ❤🌿🫛🥒🏡
Always love watching the planting and building…..never a dull moment.
Thanks so much for watching Lena 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Oh my! Is it already Wednesday? Always fun to see my favorite UA-cam family at it again, working hard. Thanks always for sharing your lovely Portugal homestead in the clouds with everyone! And also, what perseverance you both have! I know you’ll figure it out and get through it all in due time!
This week is flying by Jennifer! Thanks so much for watching friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
How I loved “being in” your garden today. And “feeling” the fresh air and blue sky. Absolutely wonderful. You’ve given me a whole lot of inspiration to get out and prepare my garden for summer vegetables. Would love to know if you are able to keep the rodents away and not strip your garden of vegetables before you can eat them
And the addition is coming along spectacularly! Love the smell of fresh cut lumbar!
We loved having you in our garden with us friend! Thanks so much for watching 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Your garden is fantastic. We got snow so I have to wait on planting, but I can’t imagine mine being as beautiful as yours bravo.
Love how the veggie garden is coming along Tara - admire John's talent as always and love how cute both Crusoe and Sawyer are becoming as they grow with confidence and kindness.
Thanks Anne, we are both so excited about our projects! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Or maybe build a temporary kitchen in the tiny house or the extention it would be cool, kids can play in their room. think wisely shift perspective coz tiny house can wait but the independence and good space kids will have they will cherish it forever and you will also have good quality night sleep ik you build that space with love. Be brave, Think Big, Explore
I am starting to see the vision on the extension. Very clever to make it semi-permanent so that adaptive reuse is possible in the future. And as the garden planting continues to miss seeing the young man that helped you so much. I’m sure we’ll see him Here and there and maybe he’ll bring some friends with him. Your boys have such good role models and Carusos manners are a reflection of that. cheers!
Thanks so much Leo, we are so excited about this new extension! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Hi Tara and John. My husband Bob and I love having you in our home every week like a family visit. We have watched the boys growing up and Crusoe with his battery tools reminded us of our grandson Luke with his tools like that. He is now 30 and he has his own business building houses. Keep up the great work. We hope your house building goes well and best wishes . Lyane and Bob ❤
Thank you for having us in your home every week Lyane and Bob, we love sharing these projects with you ❤️❤️
John you are a master at building's it is a joy to watch and Tara what green fingers you are getting I just love how intune you two are 👏👏👏
It’s all coming along so well and looking so great!!
I admire you guys for your creativity. You make everything look so easy and beautiful. ❤
Thank you Inge 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
How I wish you could prioritize your sleep guys. You need it. The stress of building, and lack of proper sleep, may be a huge health risk. Add on a small room for the kids, something that can fit just bunk beds. The tiny house style
Thanks for the concern friend ❤️❤️
Thankyou for a great video. Wishing you all the best
I love you guys!
I'm watching from Oregon USA. I have loved to watch from the beginning and now. Your family is amazing. Don't ever let anyone tell you different!
Thanks so much Wendy 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Great video 😊
Looking good for the extension and the pea's will love the new wire their is nothing like fresh pea's 😊
Thank you so much friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Progress! Love seeing it all coming together. Well done on the peas Tara, I'm so behind I haven't even got my peas sown yet!!! Waiting for some warm sunshine still. xx
Thanks Jenny, we love having you as part of our journey 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
As always, you are amazing!
Thanks so much friend ❤️❤️

Great progress John. Looking good
Thanks Rick 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Hello Newbys! So much work for it to be temp! But you guys have the vision & creativity to move things around as necessary. The evolution continues ... carry on Newbys!! Let's do it! Take care of the shoulder/s John, builder and artist in a former life!! Well done Tara!🙏🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for all the support Kathy 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Love your progress, you’re both Amazing!! I sure miss the old videos though that contained so much of Sawyer and Crusoe.
Love to all ❤🇨🇦
So eager to see this build. Tara I’m sure tour garden will be wonderful 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
The extension is already looking fabulous! The sweet peas are thanking you for the trellis. :) If you need to knock it all down, it is a great idea to plant a kiwi or something else. On our farm, my parents planted a vine, and it is still growing after ±60 years. It is lovely and cool in summer and sunny and warm in winter. Thanks for making us part of your journey.
Thanks so much Christie! Your support means so much to us and we love having you as part of our journey ❤️❤️
Looks good👍
John it will all come together 👋👋see you Sunday sunshine 🌞👋👋👋
What you need to buy are called cattle panels the way you put it in you put in two of the green tea post attached one side of the short end of the cattle panel loop it over to make your covering and putting two more t-pins in . That way everything can grow on it, tomatoes and peas and all kinds of veggies .
Tara & John bravo!!! You both are so talented and wonderful teaches and examples for Crusoe & Sawyer. ~Cara ❤
Thanks Cara!
Thanks so much Rosari, I really do love being in the garden and seeing all the vegetables grow makes my heart so happy 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you all guys, good work.
Thanks so much for watching Arjan, as always it is great to hear from you 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
You are doing a great job.❤❤❤❤
Thank you so so much Glenys 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Another option would be to have 2 bedrooms for you and the kids in the office building and move your office to the bedroom in the reno house.
I'm always awed by your work ethics❤
Did anyone else see that Easter Egg!?! At the END!!! EEEEKK! I can’t Wait for the next episode!
We had a bed settee in our house for us to sleep on because the wooden house we built to live in while we renovated our stone house ,I know it’s a pain to keep putting up and down but it’s better than sleeping in one room ,looks like it’s going to look fabulous when it’s done x
Lovely idea Linda, thanks for sharing 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Great. John's work looks great. Tara garden looks great as well.
Thanks so much Gail! 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Hi all !!try putting the mesh in and out of the sweetheart stakes it makes them sit firmer!
Thanks for the advice Sia 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Starting to be something amazing, hopefully you will not have to knock it down! Have a great week you guys!!! Cheers Bert 🙏🏻❤
Fingers crossed Bert. Thanks!
Hi Tara and John, Im no expert far from it but watch a lot of renovations videos specially the one from UK where a lot of old barns and cottages have been converted. Why not join your existing home to this stone cottage via a glass bridge walk way so you have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms? Just a thought. !!!
Hi Farah, thanks for the suggestion. We are going to be knocking the house down that we are currently living in, we need to knock it down in order to have the space for our new house so a walkway won't work 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
@@TheNewbys oh ! I C. Didnt know that. Lots of love and blessings for all the four of you from UAE and Pakistan. 🥰
If everyone can get plenty of bed space ( ie. Have a few beds in the room) I don’t see any problem at all with co-sleeping. My boys did it for years and years much to others horror and there was always another free bed to move into if it got a bit tight. Culturally it’s a very new idea to sleep separate. It was lovely and I miss it. Much better than getting up in the night for worried toddlers.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us friend ❤️❤️
Yes cattle fencing easiest way I’ve seen to create the arch just stake it on four corners.
The little extension is coming along nicely and the boys could have bunk beds ❤
Thanks Faith! Your support means so much to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
I think you’ll all end up sleeping outside under that fantastic structure on the hottest summer evenings.
You could have Murphy bed too. Close it up in the daytime
I was so nervous to watch this episode when i read the title, phew no demolition just yet. Great work on the garden Tara 🥰
Your sweet pea are going to be stunning. Mine have come to a stop because of our cold and wet weather. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I like the exotic fruits pergola idea.
I agree about the mezzanine. It's very possible that the boys would want to stay with you anyway having got used to it now. I slept in the same room as my kids for a long time after being left alone, but when they were ready, they got excited about having a room of their own.
Good to see John back with the wood!
I know it'll be more work in the garden with Joao not there, but last year you were reclaiming the ground as well as growing things so a lot of his work is still there.
Good luck with all your experiments, I'll look forward to seeing what I might copy.
😂
Thank you for sharing your experience with your kids with us Ruth. It definitely makes us feel a bit better knowing that we are not alone. Thanks for the well wishes with our experiments, we will keep them coming 😂😂
My motto in gardening is: get in there and grow! Most things will grow, do not fret. You should look at no dig gardening. Easy and plentiful. You are both doing so well. Building up a farm in a foreign land is never easy, all those regulations and odd customs to take into account.
Amazing, thanks for sharing your motto with us friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
What is underneath the bedroom? Is there space behind the kitchen on the bottom floor? A hand drawn map of the little house renovation would be handy for us to see what your vision is , love the journey you are showing us :-)
Hi friend, underneath the bedroom is the bathroom so there is no space behind it for another room. Thanks so much for watching 🚜😄🙌🏼🏡❤️
Hi John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer. I have been following your journey for quite a few months now, and am inspired by the progress you have made in the last year, it is something I wish I had the courage in the past to do. The idea of a Polytunnel is a great one, and will be a huge benefit to your fruit and veg growing. The boys are growing so fast and the life you are giving them is amazing. Next project, get some vines growing and make your own wine :D
Hi Darren, Thanks so much for watching and for all the support 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Looking good! If you do have to take it down, at least it's a wooden structure that can be rebuilt somewhere else. It's going to look fab, and your garden is coming on a treat! 💙❤💙💙💚
Exactly that Carol! Thanks for watching 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
Hi. Wow John you are moving fast with the build...impressive.
Tara your vegetables are so lucky to have you in control of their life cycle...great job❤
Hi Petro, thanks so much friend. We are getting there slowly but surely! Thanks for the support, it means the world to us 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
His could be a great transition home for you all! Consider if room to build smaller temp bunk beds for the boys to gradually move over to their own as they’re ready! You could still maybe Size bedroom to make allowance if possible.
You can also rent out an Rv and enjoy camping experience with kids in your home teach kids new things and live your old days
Hi Tara and John. It´s always a pleasure to watch your videos. Your garden is already looking great!! 2 years ago I put in an arch in my veggie garden. Here in Portugal I couldn't find "Cow panels" as they are called in the US so I used the iron wire mesh that builders use when pouring cement slabs for reinforcement. They come all rusty and I had to paint them with anti rust paint. I used for 4 -- 1.5 meter treated wood stakes to hold it in place. I cut it and gave the suplus to a friend for her to use in her garden but as your garden Is much larger I'm sure your can have more than one there. By the way, how are the transplanted olive trees doing? I hope they all survived being transplanted!! P.S. All the puppies were adopted!! :)
Hi Elena, thanks for all the support friend. The olive trees are doing well thank you, which we are so happy about! We are so happy to hear all the beautiful pups have found homes ❤️❤️
Hi Newbys it's such a shame to have to knock something down that you are putting so much hard work into.
Good to see your vegetables growing. Hopefully you will get an abundant crop like last time.
Hi Sandra, John is learning so much from this build so it will be worth it. Thanks for watching friend 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
I’ve loved watching your videos as my littles who are the same ages as yours grow right alongside yours ❤ We don’t know one another in reality but we were pregnant at the same time and my kids know your family through the television as we watch your videos while we snuggle down for nap or bed time 😊 Honorary members of our family all the way in Canada.
Ah that is amazing Asha! Thanks for all the support in Canada, it means the world 😊🙏🏼❤️
Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to combine these two small houses? A glass connector, something like an orangery. Then the house you are currently enlarging would serve as bedrooms
If you weave the chicken wire like a basket I will work as one unit more stable. Stack 2nd layer opposite weave!
Thanks for the advice Deb 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹
