Just a note on your apology at the end of the video: I love the fact that you show the 'real' side of teaching. The chaos, the messy room, the late night planning sessions. As an education major who just has a year left of school, it's nice to get a real insight to what it might be like for me. :) I still think you do a fabulous job, though! And you've given me A LOT of great ideas for classroom organization and lessons!

I actually appreciate that you have showed us how your life is really like because i was feeling quite like i have nothing together. you seemed absolutely flawless prior to these videos! But i think the vlogs really give us a rounded sense of who you are as a teacher which is an imperfect, but amazing view! you are awesome!

I LAUGHED SO HARD AND LOUD AT THE MELTED SNOWMAN! Don't feel bad about giving students consequences. Teachers understand, and I hope others will too. Unfortunately when there are no consequences kids grow up to be adults who don't understand rules, laws, and consequences. You are an amazing teacher. You do so much for your students, and they will grow up to appreciate the "touch love" you showed them. Have a wonderful holiday! Warm wishes for the season, and the very best for 2017. Get some rest!

Hahaha, I'm glad you found it funny! Thankfully today I found a small fake carrot at Michaels for about $0.80 so next year I will be all set! I agree that students definitely need and appreciate the "tough love" sometimes. Both of the students I sent out came back and apologized after the movie was over so I think it worked out okay! Thank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful holiday as well! Get some rest too!!

I know this is not that educational.. but if they have a lot of energy i would recommend Go noodle. Its like a dance thing. The people on the screen tell them what to do. either do it for getting the wiggles out or as a "reward" My students love it! also,Its FREE.

I'm not a teacher or not even near the age of being able to become a teacher. I am in fact going through my GCSE's in the UK and have found myself so interested in how much work my teachers put in and I am learning to appreciate all the work and over time you do especially as a what we call in England a primary school teacher. Looking back at those times I looked over how much time it would take to cut out things and how much time you spend creating boards for your classroom and making it look amazing. You inspire so many students. Keep going, its with your hard work outstanding little people are created xx

I actually love seeing a "real" week. It makes the rest of us feel normal. How long do you have off? Sorry if I missed that info. We have now finished our school year (Australia) and have 6 weeks off for our summer break. Not as long as yours, but long enough to still regenerate for the new year. We had the full moon in our last week of the year - made things a little "hairy". At least most of the curriculum content was done so we had more leeway to let things go.

  • @katlynnem

As a urban educator of low income students as well behaviors can be challenging. I always try to remember that kids who act out are generally seeking out for a need not being met. While it may seem like they are just being "disrespectful" it's generally not that. I found that pulling my student(s) for an individual conference for 5 minutes during my prep to talk about what I'm seeing and letting them talk to me openly opens up a world of what I didn't even realize was going on with them. Also parents almost always want the best for their children, they just might not have the skills or ability to provide that for their children. Just a little food for thought. I hope you have a restful break! I enjoy watching your vlogs!

I truly appreciate this video. I teach in the Caribbean with a class of 33 kids with NO ASSISTANT or support and it's a battle each and every day. I do get that it can be demotivating especially when you teach families of low income who lack the understanding and care for their kids that you as the educator have to be the Teacher, Counselor, Doctor and everything else for these kids while fighting to do your day's work. Least that's what I endure every day. I was overjoyed on the last day of school that I couldn't wait to get home, lol. I do plan to be more organized in the upcoming year. Honestly I worry about the possibilities of reaching to all 33 kids in which half have Special Needs but I gotta keep the faith. Thank you for sharing, you're awesome for doing all that you do and appreciated.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I can't imagine having that many students! That would be a struggle for sure. This is the first year I've really had support in my room and there are both positives and negatives with it. I definitely think it's hard to fully reach all learners in any classroom when the students are at multiple levels for every subject. All we can do is our best and remember that we are making a bigger different for our students than we know :)

Thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you love your internship! It can be stressful but it is such a great experience! Make sure you try as many new strategies and ideas as possible... it's so much easier to try them with you have your mentor teacher's support and advice!

Im an education major and new to all of this, do you make every single one of your worksheets? You're a great example, I'm really excited to start teaching in a few years.

I create a lot of the worksheets that I use in my classroom but not all of them. I find a lot of products on TeachersPayTeachers to use... such as all the materials for the Holidays Around the World unit I showed in this video! I made a ton of worksheets my first year of teaching so I don't have to create quite as much now!
