Yes a snake is just a long neck. They were discovered by someone accidentally mutating a turtle and discover they could take the neck and breed it to make snakes😂😂😂
Emily: fat snakes eat a lot, doesn't really move. Me, curled up I blankets and eating snacks: welp, I'm a fat snake now. edit: yes i am chinese AAHBEJAHWE
I rescued a veeery large Boa that had serious neck rolls lol. She is a beast and we are working on loosing weight. She was eating a jumbo rat every 5-7 days! So i have cut her back to every 6 week feeding and I take her out to make her move and get some exercise! Gotta get a kiddie pool and try that hydro therapy! I just ordered two African House snakes from LLLreptile. One was ok shape wise but the other one has those folds on both side of the lower half of its body! And wouldnt eat on it own. So I am assist feeding that one with the the tail pieces of larger rats. Praying for a happy recovery!
So you just feed every 6 weeks? May have read that wrong but I dont know much about boas anyway I keep pythons. Is that healthy to wait that long? Well I guess if hes already a fatso it would make sense to feed less
S C I understand that. I was telling the other person that they do not make any sense. For one the lack of proper punctuation leaves me confused as to what they were trying to convey. Their lack of punctuation makes be doubt their ability to spell. Meaning, do they mean no or know? Secondly, they responded to taproductions answering something that I can only assume is seeable by only themselves. There was no mistake made and nothing to be wrong about. Productions asked a question and tma responded making zero sense. Just talking complete nonsense. Your reply was a much better one for him.
So my fiance and I got a cornsnake and she was underweight We feed her every 5 days now, and we let her swim because she was super week and couldn't move around alot on her own. Now she explores her tank and climbs EVERYTHING and it becoming more responsive to us talking to her She was a 1 when we got her a month ago, now shes a 2 on the border of a 3
this video helped me a lot! i took in a 4 year old corn snake yesterday, and her previous owner gave me a large tank with just a hide and water dish, and told me they'd been feeding her 3 mice every 7 days. i am a first time snake owner now, but i have done my research and im almost postive 3 mice every 7 days is excessive and she probably doesnt get much exercise roaming around her hide with nothing to climb on. She is built like jimmy at the end, like a big ol sausage link. she was due for a feeding and my dad (who has had experience with snakes) and i decided to cut her down to one mouse. she was shy and didnt want to eat for us, but i left it on a rock in her enclosure by her and left the room for about 10 minutes and in that time she ate. if she was on 3 mice a week, she obviously didnt mind only getting one last night. I am going to purchase better enrichment for her enclosure so she can climb around more and definately cut back on her feeding.
I know it's a year later, but I was wondering how your snake was doing? That's so sad that she was not taken care of so well, but so good that she found a better owner that did their research
@Lucien Salinas corn snakes live somewhere between 10 and 20. More towards 20. I like getting them as babies just to go through all the phases. But I did adopt an adult female milkshake that was already 5yrs old. She has been a great snake over the past 8 years.
@Lucien Salinas if you have the time and energy to spend with it yes. It's rewarding. If you want to adopt someone's really relaxed adult snake that is in good health and tame then there are plenty of rescues on Craigslist etc.
Thank you, Emily! I was wondering how often to feed my ball python I'm getting soon. All the websites I looked up ranged from once every 11 days to once every 4 days. I was so confused by it so I looked on your channel, and sure enough, it was there. You always have the most helpful and reliable source of advice for a pet snake!
I really love that you just use this channel for educational purposes & you never really get involved with any of the drama of the reptile community. I know you have opinions, everybody does, I just think you’re more professional by keeping this channel educational.

I’m watching this video as a little review, along with some other sources, because I’ve been thinking about the weight of my snakes a lot recently. I didn’t expect how emotional it would make me when Fatniss and Nick came on-screen unexpectedly. RIP little garters.
I know this video is a bit older but I just wanted to say thank you for it. I knew what to look for when it came to obese snakes but never underweight. I grabbed mine right away and noticed some of the things you pointed out for an underweight snake. I’m going to be making her meal days more frequent and possibly be upgrading her meal size in a couple months. Thank you so much for this.
I'm a relatively new snake owner. been really nervous about feeding my two babies (ball pythons)- how big of a rat to feed them, how often to feed them, whether or not they're getting enough nutrition or if they're getting too fat- so thank you for going into such detail about how proper weight is supposed to look! They're both eating one rat a week consistently and looking great.
Nick is a fellow Hyena Agenda fan ;) My corn snake was obese when I got her, but thankfully now we've got her down to a healthy weight. This video is really helpful to actually SEE what the body condition scores for snakes look like, versus a lot of other resources I've found that are just descriptions. Thank you!
I have a baby ball, that wasn't eating. She's been totally different then my other two. I watched your video with the baby ball that wasn't eating. I done what you said to do, and it work great. Thanks 🤗
Thank you for making this video! I thought our ball python Draco had gotten pretty chunky lately but I didn't realize he was overweight until I watched this. He's about a 6 or 7 so I'll be putting him on a diet and give more swim time from now on. Thanks so much for making such informative snake videos! ❤️
You make such happy, educational vids - I just love it so much. Learning about how some snakes have been neglected, abused, or malnourished (overweight included, malnourished just means a bad diet) makes me tear up because it's so upsetting. I'm really thankful for the rescue you run and I am so, so happy to help keep it going by being a patron. You guys are absolutely stellar. Much love.
Thought Sausage was a ball python when you first shown her, wow that was a pudgy corn snake lol. Those editor comments about being fluffy and cultivating mass were great though XD
Hey emily, just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do and keeping this channel. Its literally the best, most informative channel out there and you're the only big reptile channel I know who seems to actually care for the pets and to make sure they have PROPER enclosures with a decent size. I dont trust people who proudly show off their (cruel) rack systems thinking thats proper care. Reptiles are way too often seen as an acessoire instead of a living being. Also its obvious that you really know about the matter and give the correct and honest advice about topics. So yeah just thank you
Yes! I just got a water snake, and I love her to bits. When I was looking up vivarium sizes, care tips, etc. I saw on one website "they make great display snakes" and that made me really mad.
Thank you for this. I haven't handled a snake since I was at school decades ago, so this is all new information to me. You presented the info really clearly with lots of good examples. These thin noodles and chubber sausages are lucky to be living with you now.
"I'm not fat, I have a different life choice." - So cute! She may be a bit of a huge chunk but she's adorable none the less! I hope she's doing better now with your friend!
My corn is a little underweight as she is our first and we didn't know that she needed a bigger size, we've increased the size for her now and she's doing much better and slowly getting back to a healthy weight ❤
Thanks for this video. Id say my BP is about a 6 maybe even a 7. The whole bread loaf thing really helped, I always thought if I could see his spine at all, he was under weight. Gonna cut him back slightly so he can drop to a normal weight. Awesome video as always. Congrats on 200k
Woot hyena agenda! Also this video gave me the confidence that my ball is a nice and healthy weight and I'm doing a good job! Thanks for making these videos, they have taught me so much!
I just got my first reptile today, a corn snake. From the pictures of him online, he looked like a 6 maybe but once I got him, I imminently knew he was a 8. He's 5 yrs old and about 5 feet but I haven't weighed him yet. I was worried about what I could do but I'll be happy to give him hydrotherapy once he's settled in lol
I know that I am very late to the party on this video, but another way to help overweight snakes is to get one of those "velveteen" blankets, just lay them on it, and because of their scales, the blanket acts like a treadmill and they can't get a grip so they just keep slithering in basically one spot. It works great and it's hilarious to watch!
I went to petco today and decided to go see the reptiles when I spot the ball pythons that were underweight! I decided to watch this video again and yes they really are underweight. And one of them obviously has stuck shed on its head.
I love watching your videos. They’re well thought out & very informative. I especially love the bloopers at the end, LOL! 😁 Keep up the great work! You are an indispensable asset to the reptile community! 🥰🐍
I found a snake up at my cottage in pembine. It is a female. She was calm when handled. We want to know what what species she is. She's gray, no pattern.
This was so helpful because I'm trying to adopt a corn snake who o don't think has been looked after properly since she doesn't have a proper tank and the owner doesn't really seem to care where she goes as long as she's told.
Indispensable information to learn that 'power feeding' an half the snake's lifespan... Wow! So glad I learned that before I went ahead and tried it for my new ball pythons.
YAY! Leviathan isn’t fat! I watched this video because I was scared he was getting too chonky but he’s a good healthy weight. Thank you for educating me some more on snakes :)
I rescued a ball python off of Craigslist, he was probably at a 2 on the weight scale or so when I got him. He's up to a 3 I would say after a couple months of good meals. They were feeding him live and SAID he was eating once a week which I do not believe in the slightest. He took a frozen rat for me right away and is a very enthusiastic eater. They said they had him over 5 years also and he looks like a juvenile, definitely has been stunted from lack of feeding and didn't even have a heating element in his tank (we do live in Florida but still not ok). He's much happier, fuller, and shedding completely with me. I can't wait to see even more of a positive change in him! thank you Emily for being knowledgeable about and giving all of us an awesome resource so we can better help these amazing animals that are often not cared for properly by others.

This was so helpful because I'm trying to adopt a corn snake who o don't think has been looked after properly since she doesn't have a proper tank and the owner doesn't really seem to care where she goes as long as she's told.
Emily: Is your snake fat?
Also Emily: Let’s talk about that.
was that a gmm reference
That’s so rude calling my snake fat he is not fat he is fluffy
Jacob Blew snakes can't grow fluff

Jacob Blew Is it named Gabriel? Is it a 1, 2 ,3 ,4, or a 5 on the fluffy scale?
9:01 “I’m not fat I’m big boned”
Lmao me 🤣🤣🤣
Indispensable information to learn that 'power feeding' an half the snake's lifespan... Wow! So glad I learned that before I went ahead and tried it for my new ball pythons.
YAY! Leviathan isn’t fat! I watched this video because I was scared he was getting too chonky but he’s a good healthy weight. Thank you for educating me some more on snakes :)

Yep
I love how she puts the snakes “thoughts” while talking abt them it makes it comedic and more enjoyable
