    Looking great! Never realized how much work it is to put in a permanent fire pit, but then again you'd want to do it right especially on your own property!

    I think the French drain will work nicely to keep water from standing in the pit. It's hard work now, but as with most hard work, the benefits will be well worth it. 👍👍

    What do you do for a day job or are you big enough to work just for UA-cam?

  • @thebmac
    @thebmac 8 років тому

    I wouldn't think there would be that much settling going on. For the most part, it seems like you are just removing dirt. The most settling would happen where you are dumping the dirt on the "downhill" portion of the pad. A bit of water and that hand tamper that you're using would be enough I would think. Maybe I'm wrong though at the site is reacting differently.
    Somethings you might want to incorporate or plan for is firewood storage, spare storage for chairs, a log bench for two people to sit on, food prep/serving area and maybe an area to keep your grills, pokers, pans.?
    Zed Outdoors just had a video of a primitive camp he visited and they had a keyhole fire ring and took various things into consideration. Maybe give that video a watch.

      I've watched that video of his! And everything you mentioned we plan on building as well. Stay tuned!

    Yep, great ideas so far. Good work. Network maybe, might run across someone who is really good at certain tasks to help you along. Bet it feels great to get some hard work in, its what we are meant to do. Peace, John in Idaho

      Yes it has finally cooled down. But it was still pretty hot when we filmed this video. Luckily we were under the trees.

    Pretty cool but what if you are not carrying a whole shed in you back pack?

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  8 років тому

      No sure if you're joking or not. But if you've ever hiked on a trail in the forest, those exact tools were carried into the forest (on someone's back) to create the trail.
