I’m a meteorologist and this is, without a doubt, our worst nightmare. In the face of a disaster like this and feeling so powerless to stop it, it doesn’t matter what religion you are or if you’re religious at all, that sort of prayer transcends religion and culture and goes right to your heart. It’s the most sincere form of prayer and the most important. May this gentleman be blessed many times over for the composure and caring he showed in the face of disaster. EDIT: some of y'all in the replies need to learn to behave yourselves. I'm not even slightly religious myself but I can still damn sure appreciate the compassion of prayer shown in the face of uncontrollable disaster. this isn't about christians vs atheists or any other religion, it's about human empathy.
@@BaronFeydRautha look I’m not a fan of the church or “religion” myself but really what’s the point in your comment?? 1, comments like this is not going to change the minds of people who are religious. & 2, it’s just not the time or the place... Idk if there even is a time or place that would make sense to try to talk someone out of belief in religion, but, if there was, this certainly wouldn’t be it. Also, when you do this bs, you’re acting JUST like the judgmental & hypocritical church going mfs you don’t like... except instead of berating people with threats of going to hell if they don’t believe & acting holier than thou, you’re acting like a know it all & making condescending remarks talking down to people FOR believing... both Christians like them & atheists like you make your respective communities look bad & you’re the reason why people outside of each do not fck with y’all..
this was the last thing my family heard from the storm shelter right beside the tv, then our power shut out and the pressure of the tornado was felt, and we heard glass shatter and everything. we were praying so much and we are so grateful we are alive. our truck is destroyed and we will have to move in an airbnb for a few months until they fix our backyard and roof but we are so grateful to be alive. thank you matt lauhban for everything you do for us in this area. UPDATES: me and my sister are staying at our great aunt’s house while our parents stay home and sort everything out. there are no airbnbs left and so we will be in a camper out on our property for a little while until the damage is fixed. a lot of the upstairs will be replaced, my father is a veteran and so we thankfully have great people backing us up, shouldn’t take all too long to get back on our feet.
I'm so glad you all made it through and you have a very warm caring weather guy. Praying for your community and may God bless you all through this trauma 🙏💜

My grandmother survived genocide in Yugoslavia, lived a life of selflessness, went to church every week and had more faith than I ever have and she died in a house fire when she was 92, just hours after my mother-in-law died peacefully in her sleep. That was a real crap pile of a day. Life really sucks sometimes and unfortunately no one is immune to tragedy. I have no answers. I’ve been seeking answers myself. I’ve had other things happen too, even worse than that, that I’m still seeking answers for. I too wish all prayers were answered. I too have struggled with my faith. This is my meteorologist in Mississippi and we absolutely love him. He is a good man and he goes above and beyond his job as a weather forecaster and I wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the world. He had been telling us for 2 days there would be tornadoes and there would be 1 or 2 massive devastating ones that would be life threatening and he said exactly where those would be and 1 of those bad ones would come right through where I live and he was 100% correct. Matt even gets on his own Facebook when he's off and continues to be here for us through all of it. I've seen him be the only one still reporting after all the rest have taken cover at the tv station. Matt deserves any & every award that pertains to being a Chief Meteorologist because he cares about his family and all his viewers. We are BLESSED to have him.
Thank you for your personal insight into this local event. God bless and continue to knit back together the scattered people and places of your community. Its SOULS that create the heart of a community and this one has one big hear. Luv and prayers from Minnesota
I may not be a Christian, but this was a heartfelt prayer from a meterologist who knew this was possibly a mile wide EF-4 that had destroyed two other towns in the past hour. I would like to think the people of Amory and all those in Mississippi in the 100 mile path of this monster tornado appreciated his prayer!
It blows my mind how people can see what is happening in these times and not believe the Bible. Everything coming to pass just as it is written. Better wise up friend.
It was the words of a delusional man. A man who has yet to come to terms with reality. Perhaps a man suffering from psychological problems and delusions that there is a sky daddy.

What a guy. He’s a meteorologist and he knows the danger of these types of tornados. His prayer was so heartfelt. Bless him and his family. Those folks in Mississippi are facing a major cleanup now. I hope they receive all the help and assistance they need.
We love our Matt! He is somewhat like James Span (as from Alabama now live in MS.) Matt’s first day was “baptism by fire!” His first day occurred on April 27, 2011! He is a very warm and cares the people he is providing info regarding weather. He cares!!!
At that exact moment my family and I was in shelter just up from our home that took a direct hit. But Matt if your listening u r the reason my family is alive. Your work saved our life. I normally don’t go to shelter but I saw the worry u had and went. So thank u.
I heard this prayer this morning on news recap. Thanks to the meteorologist for praying for these people in their time of need. This brought me tears. We need more of this type of coverage - facts and prayers.
I am not what you would call a religious person, but I have mad respect for the genuine empathy and care this man felt for all those people. I personally have never seen someone express themselves like this before. We need more people like this man in the world today. YHVH, incarnate bodily in Jesus Christ, is the Creator. No other “gods” exist, Isaiah 44. He is the First and the Last, and apart from Him, I know no other God, no, not one. The LORD Jesus Christ says He is the First and the Last in ReveIation 1, because He is the visible image of the invisible YHVH, Colossians 1:15, the Godhead in bodily form, Colossians 2:9. @@catalincata9043 I'm not even a Christian, and I still pretty much do that. It doesn't matter if the person hates my guts simply because I exist, I'll still genuinely feel bad for them when fit hits the shan (if you catch what I mean by that 😂) in their world and they're going through a lot.
Reminds me of an older news video. The meteorologist broke down into tears live on the air after seeing what the storm they were tracking was going to do. I don't know how someone could have a job like that and not cry. You literally are telling everyone in that area "there is this massive, deadly storm heading your way, and you could very likely die in the next 20 minutes." It's like that scene in the movie "Only The Brave" (I recommend you watch it if you haven't) when Brendan McDonough walks into the gym and every person in there breaks down into tears because when he walked in, he confirmed that the single closest people to everyone in that room had died.
Too bad god didn't care to not send the deadly tornadoes in the first place. Thank god for sparing you during a natural disaster (or really anything) is like thanking a serial killer for sparing you and killing your neighbors instead. Then again, reasoning isn't strong with the religious; if it were, they wouldn't be religious in the first place.
@@catalincata9043 Christianity is not only factually not true (as in its claims) but is also morally bankrupt. Believing in eternal punishment for finite crimes is evil. believing that god controls everything, and thus sent the tornadoes that killed innocent people is evil. your god is evil and you are, by proxy, are at least ignorantly so--and that makes you and yours dangerous.
He didn't care who heard him, he was truly concerned about the people in the tornado's track. It wasn't just something to say, like, Oh my God, I cannot find my phone." This was an actual prayer from the heart, to protect those people. What a kind man!

As a non-chistian, this is the only form of religion everyone is ok with: showing empathy and concern for your fellow man. It's when y'all start trying to dictate how others live and love that most have an issue with.
As a fellow meteorologist this is something I hope I never have to do. He is a great example of how to stay calm and composed, also that this isn't just a job he's working. It's about helping protect life and property, and his community is blessed to have him!
Thanks to both of you for your part in keeping people safe and informed. That same thanks goes out to the local emergency response agencies and weather spotters.
As someone who has lived in an area where tornadoes are just a part of life that you have to get used to, this gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. He knew exactly what he was looking at and what that meant for those people. It's very surreal when it happens in your own backyard. I'm glad they had a compassionate person to talk them through this. It may sound silly, but most of us develop a love for our meteorologists. Growing up, Dan "The Man" Satterfield (ifkyk) was ours. Many tornadic afternoons, you would hear him screaming from the tvs to warn us latch-key kids of what was coming & how to handle it. Step 1: Turn up the tv as loud as you can. Step 2: Get a helmet or pillows to cover your head. Step 3: Get in a closet or bathtub. Step 4: Do NOT come out until Dan tells you to. ❤
Dan was the man! People laughed at him telling kids to put helmets on or whatever they had to keep their heads safe. No he just cared about those kids at home alone and about protecting their brains. Most other injuries can be repaired. I was still following him in Oklahoma, and somehow I haven't seen anything from him in a while, but he still watches our weather here in Alabama. He is a good man 😊
Bless him. Sad that this would be unusual. As a Katrina survivor, we truly appreciated everyone who prayed for us that night as our lives changed forever. Of all people, a meteorologist knows just what those numbers and images mean.
@@evilsharkey8954 Being cold and lacking empathy isn’t professional. This man showed an honest concern expressed in a way that is meaningful to many of the people affected.

@@davidcattin7006 - God changed his mind at least 19 times that are documented in Scripture, such as in Exodus 32:14: ““So the Lord changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people.” The fact that God is completely sovereign (all powerful) does not mean that he always chooses to exercise total control over all events. Therefore, praying for God to protect people from a natural disaster is neither rude, nor “suggesti[ng] that he change his mind.” God’s character does not change, he is always holy, always just, always merciful, etc. But he has, does, and can change his mind. Empathy. A dying trait that every single human being should posses and express. Mr Laubhan is a class act, a blessed man. We need more people like this. Men and women.
The world NEEDS praying Christians to intercede for them. Whether they know it or not. Some people are still breathing and receiving Gods grace and mercy, because of our Christ breaking our hearts to bless the unbelievers.
@@jc6270 for everyone who is supposedly "still breathing because of God's grace", there is another person who is no longer breathing, despite many prayers for them to live.
So the man has empathy because he is asking God to help, but if God is sitting idle watching people die until someone asks for help via prayer, is that God empathetic? And if God was already helping, what good is the prayer? Neither option makes sense. Either God is callous or prayer is useless. Either way breaks the Christian worldview.
