Your project is great and simple. The payment method is not. I don't want a patreon account and recurring software subscriptions. It is a shame you can't just buy the software some other way.
Another great build and video Craig! And thanks for the bumper music! Off-topic - tell us about your arcade console that is always running in the background! - Aaron - W1ATB
I've been dying to talk about that arcade cabinet, but couldn't work it into the Ham Radio theme, but, if a great Patreon like yourself suggests it, I probably should crack it open in a video :)
Cool stuff. Thanks. The FT2980 is mono band not dual band. 😉II have two 2980s, but moved to the FTM6000. It'll do 9600 baud and high speed VARA FM via the dedicated data port.
I was going to point out about the FT-2980R also, that's not a dual band radio. I can't understand how he could have mistaken it when he was literally holding it in his hand? Maybe too much playing his violin.
@russelThomas This gets asked quite a bit, and VARA is a fascinating technology, but it's closed source and I don't see a legal way to redistribute it. Additionally it's windows-only on x86.... not Linux/ARM. Incredibly it runs under multiple emulators, but you need a Pi5. For HF winlink, I highly recommend the included, open-source ARDOP protocol.
Almost have me sold. I have a 991a and a pi 5 as I said. I have a MacBook Pro with usb cable. I also have ipad and iPhone. What is the purpose of the OTG adapter?
Still the best bumper music on UA-cam! Thanks for all the hard work!
Thanks for all the hard work and 1.9 release! Now I don't have to comment out display types.
Got mine on my 7300 without the screen, I can sit there with the table and do digital all day. I play with Winlink. I love it!
Thanks yet again Craig for an awesome release! Will be testing tomorrow :)

The 10 fingers of doom... Motor city madman... love it
I'd like to think uncle Ted would be into ham radio? He's a survivor.

@@terrybaileysr.3714 yah pi5 was problematic initially, all good now
@@terrybaileysr.3714 USB otg adapter is for the pi zero, puts it in host mode. other pi's dont need it
