For me, I think Kasumi worked well because they weren't so in your face about integrating her into the game. I think it's because, unlike with Marie, there was enough new content where they could space out the Kasumi stuff. P4 Golden had a few gameplay tweaks, but nothing too big story wise that wasn't Marie related. It was pretty much just the scooters, unless I'm forgetting something big. In comparison, Kasumi's content was balanced out story wise with Maruki and Akechi. Even going into the third semester, where Kasumi was way more front and center, there was still lots of new content for everyone else in the perfect world, and even more Akechi stuff. She never dominated the new content in a way that Marie did, where the huge focus on her just felt unnatural instead of seamlessly integrating with the rest of the world. Story wise, she never really had anything that was just hers. Joker never lost any agency with her being included. I think it also helped her initial social link is fairly normal overall. With Marie, it felt like they overly emphasized her not being able to remember and trying to play up this mysterious origin. All that being said, I think tech advancements helped. I definitely feel like Kasumi is a little too forced for my liking compared to other new characters like Maruki and Marie. Maruki never really forced himself onto the player other than when he makes a deal with you to go to counseling once but most confidants have something like that, and of course there are the counseling scenes with the party members which aren't very intrusive. Marie is pretty similar where you get introduced to her but then you can just ignore her social link for the rest of the game and she just disappears if you don't want to talk to her (other than the unskippable poems which are meh). Kasumi on the other hand has a bunch of scenes where it feels like the game is trying to get you to like her even if you want to ignore her you really can't, and this starts from the intro of the game. I do like her a little but I wish she wasn't so in your face about being new and the game wanting to hook you up with her (and then the ending is the one time where her time with you is too brief and just feels weird).
I think your opinion of her only stands up when you view her as a social link and not as a new party member. The new content with her is tied directly into the 3rd semester, and so it’s important you have a connection with her as a player. Otherwise she’d just be some random character who just suddenly gets a ton of screen time 100 hours into the game. People complain that Haru just comes out of nowhere in base P5, and I think they didn’t want to do that again. Maruki is in a fairly large amount of scenes in the game even if you ignore his social link, with all of the other characters going to see him. If you decide to ignore him, I promise that he would feel intrusive as well. The difference is in their roles in the new semester. Because Maruki becomes the villain and you can’t unlock the new semester without maxing out his confidant, they can leave his relationship with the MC to the social link, but since they want to allow Kasumi space to grow and bond with the player once she joins the party, they hold back the second half of her social link until then. Which mandates having more scenes to establish a familiar relationship with the player and her personality. I mean, were you constantly annoyed by how Makoto kept showing up for the first two months, or how the base game made Akechi such a primary character before he joined you? Yes, Kasumi and Maruki are additional characters added to Royal, but they still also have large roles to play later in the narrative. So that needs to be set up. It feels unfair to negatively judge the game for introducing them early and making you understand that Kasumi will be important. The game needs to communicate that Kasumi, Maruki, and Akechi’s confidants are all things you should prioritize even for new players, so it gives special attention to these three within the central story. All of that makes perfect sense to me.
@@Zakemaster I think it is hard to view her as a party member, especially since she is only playable for one palace. As for her appearing too much, I think they could have turned her 5 -> 10 ranks into something like 10 -> 15 especially since her confidant is weird enough with how slow it advances. Does she even have to be maxed at 5 for 3rd semester to unlock? I would think it would be weird to have her not maxed going into 3rd semester or getting the original P5 ending without 3rd semester and having her maxed and she just disappearing from the story. I just prefer the way Marie was handled and how if you ignore her she will just disappear or you max her and get the extra dungeon and that awesome post credits scene. @@Cheesepuff44 A bit late, but if you don’t max out Kasumi’s confidant at 5, you can’t do Sumire’s confidant at all, and I’m also 90% sure you don’t even unlock her Showtime. NGL I switched the difficulty from merciless to risky just for the Okumura boss fight and I honestly still found it to be one of the easier boss fights. You want a real unintuitive boss fight? OG madarame on merciless. Now that's an unintuitive RNG mess. The secret to the okumura boss fight is to hit every enemy individually, then on the last one use the all target version, then cancel the all out attack prompt and do it again. Or if Joker was exploiting the weakness, baton pass to the ally that the attribute corresponds to and use the all target spell. When it reaches the two different enemy types, you just do a two step variation of this.
Never realized how bad the Okumura boss fight was until I saw it constantly being brought up online. I played P5 before so I had an expectation of how the fight worked before and just used the typical thing for all bosses of buffing/debuffing + baton pass and I did it in 1 try (in normal).
People that defend Akechi's actions are so dumb. They ruin it for people who like Akechi as a character. I think he's interesting but I'll never defend him. The point of him anyway was that he could've ended up good but became evil because unlike Joker he had no bonds.
Jack Flynn yeah I love him, he's very enjoyable to watch, but he killed and hurt a lot of innocent people. He could have been saved from himself, but he wasn't
For the Okumura boss, I think I'll take the you're just dumb answer, if I had to pick from the two given options. Though, more likely, you just preferred not to use you brain at that point of your playthroughs. You already didn't care to be challenged by that boss in particular, so being so challenged led to frustration.
Okumura reminds me of krauser from RE4. Since both of their fights are easier with an unconventional play style. Raising the difficulty with Okumura and using a knife with krauser
I actually loved the Okumura boss fight; I felt like it actually really worked well with the Baton Pass system with using items to keep the Baton Pass going, and eventually doing a massive amount of damage when you got to the last one. I didn't switch to Merciless since I didn't know about the strategy until after but I had a lot of fun doing the boss fight and felt like it tested me the most in terms of using the mechanics.
The Okumura boss was terrible. I thought they fixed his dungeon, but messed up his boss. That said, I had no idea about the difficulty cheese. I just used the free legacy dlc. Thanatos got me through that fight. Yet another point to P3.
I actually loved the fact that I hated his boss fight if that makes sense. Like the fight was very befitting of his character and gave me a reason to hold anger at okumura
The Okumura fight isn't bad. Yall are just mean. Other than the fleeing robots I had almost no difficulty, no items, no merciless. No SP issues, legitimately beat it on first try

Elizabeth's dates ARE actually dates, the game even says "take Elizabeth out on a date"
*That was truly Cringeworthy*

Never realized how bad the Okumura boss fight was until I saw it constantly being brought up online. I played P5 before so I had an expectation of how the fight worked before and just used the typical thing for all bosses of buffing/debuffing + baton pass and I did it in 1 try (in normal).
Pkft1's persona would be napoleon and fither would have diogenes
Jose: Tsugi ni omae wa "Anata Wa Pinokio" To ui!
Fither: Anata Wa Pino- NANI?
At least it was the one challenging part of p5r, you gotta admit the game was way too easy esp w all the new additions
@@user-dy7ls7uo9j True. Royal was a breeze. But there's a difference between a nice challenge and that one difficulty spike that ruins your evening.
@@Ashyson780 As said in the video, for some reason, it's easier on Merciless mode. You didn't feel the pain that is this boss fight on Normal mode.
@@Ashyson780 It really was. I didn't mind it, but still. It felt like it went by too easy.
An hour and 20 minutes of PK not remembering stuff lol
The Okumura fight isn't bad. Yall are just mean. Other than the fleeing robots I had almost no difficulty, no items, no merciless. No SP issues, legitimately beat it on first try
The change they made to the Cognitive Wakaba fight was the added dialogue. That's it. There was more talking.

It would’ve been a great twist if it was actually Kasumi palace but a represssed memory of Sumire’s trauma. Similar to Futaba mom but it’s her dark shadow she has hidden away like The P4 cast.
My tactic for Shadow Okumura was losing 5 times and then saying fuck it. I downloaded the Messiah DLC, so I just nuked all the robots with Megidolaon.
That’s lowkey lame tho
@@sergiosalazar8702 Very much like the boss fight itself. I just felt like I wasted enough time.
My man, I like the video, but you gotta STOP THUMPING THE FUCKING DESK, please.
Thank you.
Yo, you might want to turn your mic down a little my guy. You're peaking a little bit
Yeah I gotta figure it out. For some reason it runs really hot even with the gain turned all the way down.
@@pkft1627 Audio is always tricky with how different one thing will sound on different systems. You'll get a hold of it for sure 👍
For me, hearing last surprise nowadays just makes me want to perform a lobotomy on myself. I grew to really despise it to the very core of my being. Take over kinda fire tho
While Kasumi is a natural fit, to me she was just an unlikable hypocrite.
