5 years later Im still surprised that I somehow managed to avoid any spoilers of P5 and played completely blind, considering we got it like 7 months later lmao
It was pretty easy for me because it was my first Persona game, and I only played it because I asked my friends on FB what was a good RPG to play on PS4, and Persona 5 was the best looking recommendation
I followed P5 since the first pv (the one with the instrumental OP). I got lucky (or not) that none of my friends at the time liked Persona, so I managed to play the game knowing having only seen the trailers. It was pretty magical ngl
Kind of a tangent but hearing you talk about how you were waiting to play at school just activated my boomer memory: My physics teacher was pretty based and like canceled class and skipped to stand in line to buy the wii when it first launched and we got to play in class a couple of times. That was probably my best memories from high school.

I remember staying up all night for the P5 reveal. The stream was exclusive to Nico Nico but some crazy person streamed the whole thing on his Twitch. A lot of it was countdowns to Margaret talking (which most people didn’t understand since it was all in Japanese) and a countdown to the next event. In between events the host would play Persona music and memes to keep the chat engaged. Eventually, it was time for the show. When it opened with half a second of PQ and cut to that old lady, I fucking lost it and screamed so hard (this was at 5:30 in the morning btw). As we were going through the announcements (PQ, P4U, P4DAN) and Teddie and Rise kept talking in Japanese about the trailer we just saw for like 10 minutes each, I felt like I was losing my mind. But then, finally, we got the teaser for P5. “You are slave. Want emancipation?” Even if it was the most nothing trailer ever, it was so worth it to me based on the whole experience.
As a person who owns and finished the PS3 version i can confirm it runs mostly well. Only frame drops are in busy areas of town like Central street and Shinjuku if you turn your camera too quickly. In palaces and bossfights when it's supposed to it runs smoothly.

Ahhh, this game's special to me, man. Persona 5 is what Persona 3 is to older fans. I don't even like Persona 3, but, I can't deny it's really important. It's nice to see a retrospective.
I know a lot of people don't like Persona 3, but even a bad Persona game is better than a LOT of other JRPGs of not just the era, but by today's standards as well.
I’m not even gonna be one of those guys and lie, I got into persona right after joker was announced for smash. I remember some smash UA-camr playing the soundtrack while sound a review and instantly, I was hooked. If the soundtrack was this good, the game must be something special. I remember seeing a persona 5 review in a game informer magazine once and I had just gotten into anime at the time. So I watch a couple episodes of Johneawesome, and loved it. I couldn’t get five at the time because of a lack of a ps4. But ever since over the past 2 years I’ve played through 3, 4, and finally recently 5. And I hope to be able to get to play the rest and even branch into the SMT side of the company as well. Even if I’m made fun of by my friends for my addiction, I’m truly appreciative of getting the chance to experience this series
Glad you enjoyed your introduction into the series! Don't feel bad about how you started, be glad you're able to open yourself up to more media, like anime, as you mentioned. 👍 I got introduced via the PS Vita back in 2017 with P4G. I didn't play any RPGs at the time, but owners of the Vita could not stop saying good things about the game. So I just had to give it try. Needless to say, I was awful. The first dungeon was difficult, but I didn't want to lower the difficulty so I watch the anime instead. And I realized there were some characters and storylines I just had to experience with the game. And after watching Johneawesome playthrough, I knew how to progress through the game much easier. Eventually Platinuming the game. There was so much I enjoyed going back the second time. The music, the characters, the voice acting. It just led me to so much more and I'm thankful I was able to give it a second chance. Persona has become one of, if not my most favorite franchise, and its led me to try other great games out there like Yakuza for example, which I also recommend. (Many, myself included recommend you start with Yakuza 0 or Like a Dragon if you want to continue playing a turn based game similar to other jrpg)

She was told about the warning labels and give a “really” look, but she brought for me anyway. Given how excited I was I was surprised I didn’t take over the wheel and crash the shop.
I just got into the Persona series about two months ago. I started by watching the Persona 5 anime, which got me interested. I followed up by playing Strikers on my Switch. I liked Persona 5, enough to buy Royal, but I haven't played it yet. Directly after that I watched the four Persona 3 movies. After all that, I played Persona 4 Golden on Steam. I'm currently on my third playthrough. After my second playthrough though, I played through all of Arena, followed by Ultimax. Currently, I'm spending most of my game time playing through Persona Q. I just beat "You in Wonderland", so I'm not that far in it yet. After this game, I'm going to playthrough Royal finally, then end it off with Persona Q2. So far, Persona 4 is my personal favorite. Persona 5 was great from what I've experienced of it so far, but 4 really sold me on the series. It was the final nail in the coffin you can say. I liked Persona 3 a lot as well, I gotta emulate FES after I'm done with the games I own. These passed two months have been super enjoyable, the Persona series is so rich! I'm very excited to be here just in time for Persona 6's slow unveiling. Seeing all the reminiscing in this video about Persona 5's unveiling tells me its gonna be a fun ride!
When you're done with Persona you should try the mainline series Shin Megami Tensei (persona is actually one of many spin-offs), since the newest game in the series comes out soon.
I had the best way of being introduced to the series. I got P5 the day it came out knowing almost absolutely nothing about it. I just saw the box cover and went "Oh I guess this game looks fun.", so I bought it and went home. I started it up and couldn't stop playing it for 4 days straight. (It was summer break in my country so it was okay XD) I ended up absolutely loving the game thanks to my love for anime and rpgs. I guess what also helped was at the time I was also 16 yrs. old, the exact same age as the protag and half the main cast, so I related a lot to their problems and was pretty much the target demographic for the game. Now I'm in my 20s and have played through both Royal and Strikers, as well as the other games in the series. Though the original still holds a very special place in my heart and I consider a big milestone in my teenage life.
Fither and Johneawesome are the reasons I bought the game plus a PS4. I learned of p5 in between 7th and 8th grade so yes I’m a p5 babee. I actually watched Johne’s let’s play before I played it myself. I was absolutely hooked with everything. Fither’s confidant videos made me appreciate them even more. Playing it myself was a big accomplishment since the ps4 is the first console I bought myself which I saved up a lot for in like a year. The wait for Royal was super hard. I made the mistake of buying the special edition which wasn’t worth it but I don’t care since the actual game is fucking great. I’m now into the megaten series as a whole and am waiting for Devil Survivor Overclocked to arrive at my house. I’m a senior in high school now, it’s been a cool ride with this game. I hope I enjoy SMT5, thank you for helping me get here Fither and Flair.
Hey Fith and Flair, you guys remember that old fan project called "Persona 5 Imagining Project" with the fan made art and compiled jazz OSTs from Japanese artists? It was back in 2015 or so.
I remember that I played Persona 4 on PS2 back in my 3rd semester in college. When Catherine came out using an updated Persona engine, I thought P5 was just around the corner, but nah. I waited all through undergrad, through all of grad school and still it took a few more years lol.
late into the buildup to p5 was about when i first got into the series; i remember just finishing q, attempting to play the other games via an emulator on a bad laptop, and, later on, even getting a ps4 and a vita just to play 4 and 5 it all feels like it was so long ago, depsite being less than a decade ago
I got into Persona because I was bored and wanted something new to play I remembered that P5 was nominated for goty 2017 and I liked anime so I bought a copy and played and I fell in love with the series so I played P4G and P3P on my vita after I completed P5.
I can confirm the PS3 version of P5 does run “more or less fine” looks and runs identical to the PS4 version aside from being 720p and having some screen tearing. Genuinely impressive how good it looks and runs
I don't think that P6 is getting announced this year; the first announcement will likely be something P4 related due to the yellow and static on the website.
I wasn't allowed to play rated M games until I was 15 so I wasn't really there to the lead-up P5. I already knew about the hype with the chairs and first trailer, but hearing this has been really interesting.
I remember the day P5 came out, I had the special edition box set and I thought it got delivered to the wrong apartment in my complex because nothing was in my box. I was frantically calling my landlord to see if it got dropped off at the office and I finally got it at like 6pm. Then my PS4 controller took a shit when I put in the disk so I had to go toe GameStop and buy a used pro controller. Then it turned out the game had to take like 3 hours to download to the console. I ended up taking a 3 hour drive around my town listening to the CD that came in the box set. Finally got to play it at midnight and stayed up all night to get through the first month.
Playing P5R again for the anniversary in a NG+ with a broke Arsène. What always make everything hard is choose MC's name, choose group's name and if a date Kawakami again or not. Decisions, decisions.
I'm actually a newer fan and only got the chance to play Persona 5 (my first Persona) like 2 months ago and I've adored Persona sense. I actually JUST started new game plus on Strikers too and got Persona 4 Golden on steam for my birthday.
I wanted to play it when it came out but didn't have a PS3/PS4. I waited 2 years for it to come to Switch or PC or anything but then it finally went onto PSNow and I got to play it.
I wasn't there for the hype for I was not a Persona fan, let alone MegaTen. But once P5 came out, I definitely heard about it and even my friend got in on the action. That alone (as well as the fancy visuals) got me wanting to play it, but I didn't own said console, and still don't. Sadly, I wouldn't be able to play it until last year via Royal.
Tbh it kinda sucks that I dropped out the Persona fanbase around 4 years after 4 came out mostly because we werent getting anything new so I completely missed the lead up to p5 (I didnt even know it was a thing until it came out suprisingly) and didnt play p5 until like 2 years or so after it came out.
I'll excuse the teddie slander today, to reminisce about the pre-persona 5 experience. It was crazy I'll tell you, after the first 4 characters were revealed, everyone thought a random girl from that trailer was important. You don't remember SCRUNCHIE-CHAN !
I remember the trailer they showed that was just the opening. I think it was the first time we saw a lot of the thieves, like Yusuke splashing paint all over the walls and I tried to disect the words and theorize if he was an antagonist. I also think that was the first time they showed Makoto and I distinctively remember saying "Oh that's best girl, I'm gonna date her on my first run", just because of her design.
5 years later Im still surprised that I somehow managed to avoid any spoilers of P5 and played completely blind, considering we got it like 7 months later lmao

I just beat royal I’m here for the mental closure
Also the day before the game came out, I got my copy of Persona 1 for PSP, so I told all my friends I got the game a day early and clowned on them
Playing P5R again for the anniversary in a NG+ with a broke Arsène. What always make everything hard is choose MC's name, choose group's name and if a date Kawakami again or not. Decisions, decisions.
5 years old, man time flys.
and i was 4 years in outta high school and into adulthood already by then, jeez! i'd graduated back in 2012
I'm actually a newer fan and only got the chance to play Persona 5 (my first Persona) like 2 months ago and I've adored Persona sense.
I still cant believe it has been 5 years already, were did time go?
wake up, flair's back
I wasn't there for the hype for I was not a Persona fan, let alone MegaTen. But once P5 came out, I definitely heard about it and even my friend got in on the action. That alone (as well as the fancy visuals) got me wanting to play it, but I didn't own said console, and still don't.
Sadly, I wouldn't be able to play it until last year via Royal.
Will watch later but smashing that like now.
i wonder if in 5 years fither will be doing the same thing for smt v lul
6:12 *glances at Super Monkey Ball*
Man as someone who only became of fan of the series last year cab imagine the hype. Also annoyance of 3 years of delays
hey is the audio mixing off or are my headphones just whack?
Oh man... you guys talking about the build up for P5... is only building the hype for Persona 6 now!
The soundtrack to P6 has a hard act to follow
The pre-game waifu wars are why i love Pokemon games
when will u guys talk about world wars 1 and 2
This is going to be great
I pre-ordered that game for PS3. And didn't get to play it for months after I got it because my PlayStation broke
What if they announce the project x zone instead of persona 6 how would you feel feel about that
Wasn't this video already done before?
Tbh it kinda sucks that I dropped out the Persona fanbase around 4 years after 4 came out mostly because we werent getting anything new so I completely missed the lead up to p5 (I didnt even know it was a thing until it came out suprisingly) and didnt play p5 until like 2 years or so after it came out.
YES.
I'm holding out hope that the P5 delays were a one off thing and that the next one will get announced for 2022 or 2023 and actually come out then.
Update: Lmfao nope
My hype for SMT V seems to be comparable to what I'm hearing was the hype for Persona 5 from this video.
Joker expectation: edgelord
Joker reality: theater kid.
Bither (boomer fither)
There is no way its been 5 years wtf
I'll excuse the teddie slander today, to reminisce about the pre-persona 5 experience. It was crazy I'll tell you, after the first 4 characters were revealed, everyone thought a random girl from that trailer was important. You don't remember SCRUNCHIE-CHAN !
How long til Atlus sues you for that merch
Flair I can't fathom how you think Morgana is worse than Teddie. Teddie is one of the worst things to ever exist
I remember the trailer they showed that was just the opening. I think it was the first time we saw a lot of the thieves, like Yusuke splashing paint all over the walls and I tried to disect the words and theorize if he was an antagonist.
I also think that was the first time they showed Makoto and I distinctively remember saying "Oh that's best girl, I'm gonna date her on my first run", just because of her design.
fither saying there's only 3 persona games killed my soul
I remember all the date pushbacks. Fun times. Not.
Ah yes, Persona 5: everyone's least favorite good game.
Im tired of everything related to this game
