I’m old enough to remember in the early 2000s when RS put out a top guitarist list and didn’t even have EVH included. This was pre-UA-cam but all of us players were stunned
I think you guys hit the nail on the head about how Rolling Stone is incentivized to publish a controversial list because it will get more clicks and drive more conversation. I like most of the guitarists they chose. I just think the rankings are way off. It was fun going through and checking out some of the artists I didn't know that well. For example, there are a lot of great African guitarists. But there are many great guitarists who got ranked a lot lower than they deserve or left off entirely.
They do, but like MTV, I didn't think they actually covered music anymore. Every time I've heard them mentioned in the last decade or so, it's been related to some sort of political story.
Can't believe you didn't mention Frank Marino, the most underatted guitarist on the planet. Five decades on top of his game. Psychedelic/Blues/Rock/Jazz maestro. All the greatest guitarists rate him but not known by the masses . The original Shredder & super fast player
Dickey Betts belongs in the top 100!

They still publish Rolling Stone?

Alan holdsworth was left off. Rs ranks them on popularity not creativity
EVH and SRV were the best guitarists. They stand above everyone else. Both were the same age and great singers and songwriters as well.
Correct. They only care that you read or talk about it.
They're still in business?

I don't hate it...I just think it's bollocks.
Haven't paid attention to anything Rolling stone has said for 20 +years 🙄
Did they put that kid from polyphia on there? Guitarists seem to get excited over him.
I stopped reading Rolling Stone when they put John Travolta on the cover!
Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore. That's your top two on this list.
Controversy? I thought Rolling Stone went away like at least a decade ago.
The RS is a rag
No matter what list is no one will agree anyway. But some are worse than others.
This magazine end Up like MTV...
Desperation from RS.
They bumped Eric because he tells the truth they ate to Rolling Stoned to make a list ......
