Also the line from Judy about canceling their vacation to buy the encyclopedia implies that Hugh did go to bat for Jimmy and suggest they find a way to get it, and that the two of them care quite a lot about Jimmy if they're willing to spend that kind of money on his education and happiness. Hugh definitely had his priorities in order.
@@DuskTillShawn I don’t mean to ruin the moment, but I’d like to point out that there’s a misconception (and even a scam) involving spending huge amounts of money on diamond rings. Even though Hugh has potential for doing great things, it seems that he always loses his soul in the process of changing, save for the time when Jimmy made the headband that improved his motor skills. Perhaps he's subconsciously aware of that, but decides he'd rather live a simple life where he loves his family and receives love.
Especially knowing that he's 10 times better than Timmy's dad I would rather have a goofball as a father that at the end of the day would get into a fight to defend me then a guy that's gonna tell me literally to my face I ruined his life the day I was born And actually mean it

Hugh Neutron is probably the only example of the idiot dad trope that works in animation. Because unlike almost every other dad like him, Hugh cares about Jimmy, he isn't neglectful or abusive, he's just a goofy dad and works as a foil to Jimmy as well. I also like how he actually has a positive relationship with his wife Judy. Whereas in a lot of animated media, or sitcoms you begin to question why these housewives married these dumbass dads. Especially after flanderization. However, Judy and Hugh have a stable marriage and despite her scolding Hugh it never feels toxic, in fact they are probably the best example of the idiot dad/housewife trope in animation. And, while I'm certainly no authority on Jimmy Neutron and haven't done much rewatching, I don't remember ever asking myself how Hugh makes it through day-to-day life. Like, he didn't feel like he was outright too dumb to live like a lot of these "dumb guy" characters tend to fall into.
And while Judy is the more put together of the two, Hugh feels like a natural counterpoint to her because we see him get her to relax and just *slow down* which explains how the two of them got together.
@@hawkticus_history_corner Yes! Unlike other dumbass dads, you can understand why Judy chose to marry Hugh, they do genuinely love each other and is nice seeing them be a positive portrayal of their respective tropes. While coming off as foils to Jimmy!
I would say some other examples are Doffitsmirtz and Richard since both despite their flaws still care for their family greatly. Richard especially is a deconstruction of this trope as it actually explained why he is married with Nichole despite everything and does a good job of showing that his neglectful dad and over-protective mom is what caused him to have those flaws in the first place.
The fact when Jimmy became a buff monster his dad not only supported him, but was willing to help him bench despite knowing it would be a couple thousand pounds.
When i was a kid I thought Hugh was an idiot and very goofy but now as an adult Hugh is awesome he's incredibly nice , chill, down to earth, funny and best of all a great husband and father, in my opinion hes not just one of the best cartoon dads but one of the best dads on tv in general.
Maybe when he reversed the timeline, Carl and Sheen just lost their gold bricks. It is basic time travel rules he simply changed his timeline and undid the damage he did.
@@angelmarin6442Yeah I doubt they could have gotten lost in a timeline that didn't exist anymore, they probably just returned like normal to the present
@@angelmarin6442 Sadly the Jimmy Neutron timetravel-rules are not entirely solid and internally consistent. We never really get proof of what happens when someone is still stuck in a future that is getting changed. It does contain the grandfather paradox(that one security bot accidentially grandfather-paradoxed himself out of existance), but it also weirdly...has characters traveling into the future meet their future selves, who I don't recall to have any recollection of having timetraveled in the first place.(Yeah, that is the odd plotpoint that Totally Spies of all shows did better than Jimmy Neutron. Total plottwist to know)
Hugh is one of the greatest dad's in cartoons. Sure, he's not perfect but he's likable. I remember in Return of the Nanobots, he was doing some Hugh Time. Even when the town was empty, he still missed his family. Shows us how much he loves Jimmy and Judy. Some of my favorite funny Hugh quotes are: "Hey, kid. You stink on ice! Go play with your ducks!" "CRABGRASS!!!" "I'd rather be dipped in pickle juice and thrown to rabbid weasels!" "I WILL LIVE!" While carrying Aunt Mo's Pies...
Hugh neutron the dumb dad done right Even though he's not the brightest bulb, you know that this man loves his family. Unlike Mr Turner. great video shawn.
With the whole "not really remodeling his house" thing, it is pretty common for extremely rich people to avoid paying for anything, so my take is that Hugh simply decided to stay where the taxes would be lower, and didn't bother with remodeling the house beyond what most guests would see. And I totally get that because if you've ever went to a Lowes or Home Depot for an install job or if you've worked there, those contacts can balloon really quick. For someone who was poor and then came into mind bending amounts of money, Hugh does seem to have a really solid understanding of money that the show might've downplayed. Because you're right, so many people would blow their cash on a mansion without thinking about the costs down the road.
It's also heavily implied that rich Hugh and Judy don't care much about Jimmy, so it makes sense that he'd live in the same room he had in the current timeline (other than throwing some bread crumbs, with the encyclopedia set). Hugh wouldn't even give money to his dad for a life-saving operation, so why would he spend much of his money for a son he finds annoying.
Or the studio didn't want to model and texture an entire location for a single episode with no reasonable way to reuse it in the future. They were on a tight budget after all.
The whole point about how written encyclopedias are out of date the minute they come off the printing press got me thinking about my college library, and heck even my local public libraries, and how many of their encyclopedias must be out of touch with reality. But then it got my brain racking about how such "obsolete" media really is a product of its time, and how at that point in history, the information was considered accurate by scholarly consensus. If there's one downside to relying on the internet for accurate information, it's how the historical context behind the obsolete information and how it came to be is ever so gradually eroded and lost over time. Books still have a historical purpose for that reason.
I totally agree! I honestly want to get a set of world books or another kind of encyclopedia set. It feels like as time goes on, physical media is being pushed by the wayside. These books are a piece of history in and of their own!
A lot of these older books are a lot more valuable than what you can find online. You can't rewrite definitions or rewrite news articles overnight with hard copies.
@@DuskTillShawn Carl and Sheen holding now just regular bricks Carl:"Uh Sheen, I don't think we can sell these for much." Sheen:"You heard about Jimmy's dad chance at money, all we need to do it find the right guy and we'll be trillionaires!"
this is a show where you can just breathe in outer space without a helmet. i say this as a science nerd and a guy who majored in physics: we don't need to care about time travel paradoxes in jimmy neutron, the show unapologetically flaunts the old tv/sitcom rule of thumb that the status quo is god.
Hugh and Judy are unironically one of the best representations of a genuinely happy couple in animation. Hugh spending all of his money to buy Judy's wedding ring and them both being happy with what they have is everything you need to know about them.
I'm always pleased to see people still talking about Jimmy Neutron! It was popular, but I don't feel like it got quite as much attention as some of Nickelodeon's other power hitters. It was also nice, in that era, to see an example of a husband and father who was there for his kid and loved his wife. Hugh was a big comedic relief for the series, but he was always sincere and genuine in a very endearing way.
I totally agree! I feel like it deserved more love than it got. It was cool that they started with a movie and transitioned to a show from there! It was a totally new concept for Nicktoons at the time 😆 Hugh really was a breath of fresh air!
Aww, thank you so much. I was only 19 at the time and it was one of the proudest moments of my entire life! Thanks for your support, I really really appreciate it. :D
Living in the same house despite having vastly more wealth actually makes sense for that timeline If Hugh refused to give money for life saving surgery, why would he spent it on a big mansion. "If i give him money, i have less". He said it himself. Same for Jimmy's bedroom. He probably let Jimmy have those things not because he cares but probably because he would have seen it more of obligation knowing how he acted to him, Carl & Sheen
@twistedyogert wouldn't he need to do a biff from back to the future 2 where jimmy would need to go to the future and get an almanac and bring it back to the present?
Dude literally has the the tech capable of going to mars or the moon in a matter of hours along with some sort of invention that allows them to breath in space without any special suit.
If we are getting into the logical solution to Jimmy's financial issues he could just patent the sci fi tech he cooks up in his backyard. The only reason he doesn't do it is cartoon mad scientist logic.
Agreed. I think most people compare Jimmy's world to Timmy's world counterparts, such as his parents, and both of them are way worse than Jimmy's. There should be comparison episodes lol
My guess about the house part is just animation budget limitations, but using that limitation to story build via the lack of notable change in Jimmy's room is a great idea. It's the same notion with them staying where they are. The simple explanation could be limited budget and time to animate more sets. The story explanation can go so much deeper. Utilizing limitations to better tell a story is an ingenuity I'll always appreciate
You know, I saw a behind the scenes video of this episode Some of the animators explained that Hugh’s rich outfit is the exact same as his disco suit. All they did was change the color scheme and hairstyle
He often acted weird. But the entire city was weird and somehow he financed a family and his son's evidently expensive life. So he's a great father. Especially compared to the average cartoon father.
Yeah mr. Turner is the worst! And also he is not worthy to be a father! And Cosmo is a much better and loving father to Timmy then that no good mr. Turner! And i would love to see Timmy get adopted by both Cosmo and Wanda.
@@hannahbecker2309Mr. Turner did have a few moments and episodes that shone a nice light on him, but it wasn't enough to block out his terrible moments and bad parenting overall. Take the original version of Cosmo (before he became stupid) when he was just kind of goofy and street smart, and that's a way better parent despite its flaws.
The Turners shouldn't have been allowed to raise a kid in the first place. They're god awful people who neglect their son on every chance they get, leave him with a sadistic and abusive babysitter and if they aren't too busy to give zero shit about him and his feelings, they put the blame on him for not having a better life.
Absolutely love this breakdown of why Hugh Neutron was the ultimate dad! 🙌👨🚀 As a kid, watching him on 'Jimmy Neutron' always brought a smile to my face - his quirky antics, his unwavering support for Jimmy, and that unmistakable catchphrase! Loved Jimmy's Mum too, really made the show more memorable
I honestly kinda like the way Jimmy was acting when not getting what he wanted. Kinda showed some realism to his character. I feel like he usually is portrayed as the boy genius who between him, Carl and Sheen and even his parents to an extent is the more mature one so I kinda like how he showed a genuine childlike reaction to not getting what he wanted. At the same time, I also liked how his experience taught him that there are more important things in life than an encyclopedia set. Also I guess I never really took the time to realize until reaching adulthood how good parents Hugh and Judy are. Especially compared to Timmy Turner's parents.
Interesting. I always saw the drive to a lot of episode conflicts being that despite Jimmy’s intelligence, he is also rather childish in his temperament and is very driven by his ego. And both in the show and in real life, if there’s one thing that turns a smart kid into a little asshole it’s people being or doing things “wrong”.
Hugh definitely earns his place within the Hall of Dads. I have to wonder about this episode though, how exactly are they able to afford Jimmy's lab? Maybe _that's_ why they're pressed on finances. It's not like we see Jimmy collecting any royalties for his inventions. As far as Jimmy goes, you have to give the show credit for reminding us that he _is_ still a child. For all his academic intelligence, it doesn't necessarily mean he has emotional intelligence or maturity yet.
@@dionettaeonYeah, although we've seen him collecting things on his own, like the materials for the diamond jewelry in the movie. I think it's implied he somehow comes by everything himself. However, there's a second implication that supports your idea too: he uses older versions of things his family replaces, or snitches something and then they have to replace it later. Like the communications toaster. In one episode Judy comments on the running joke, how Jimmy keeps making new inventions out of their toasters, reasoning that they can always use the oven to make toast. So maybe he's just Frankensteining everything together from regular household objects XD
I personally believe that the reason Hugh becomes emotionally detached isn’t due to being corrupted by wealth. It is because Jimmy told him to not follow his priorities. By breaking his priorities and investing he saw immense gains but lost that emotional part inside of him. And as we saw, him talking about maintaining his priorities was a major theme throughout and shows us the Hugh we love to watch.
I admire how real you keep it in here. A lot of UA-camrs will disconnect from their audience and from their personal lives and put on a personality, you wear it on your sleeve and I absolutely consider you one of my biggest inspirations for that reason.
Hugh was the GOAT of cartoon dads. I vividly remembered this episode and its moral because it was a lesson that took me a while to learn as a kid in a similar-ish situation to Jimmy. I come from a middle class family (although I have a bunch of siblings, unlike Jimmy) and parents who care a great deal for us and do their best. There were so many times I or my siblings lamented that our family couldn't afford something one of us wanted because we needed that money for other things. We had financial struggles, but were fortunate enough to never face anything horrible like foreclosure, and even managed to take a few vacations over the years. I don't think I fully appreciated what I had until I was old enough to work and got into my current relationship with my partner.
I never thought about it having grown up without a dad, but at the very least Hugh makes a great role model for how to be a good dad. Don't need to be perfect, but you just need to work hard, love your family and keep your priorities straight. After that things should turn out okay even if it isn't always the best circumstances.
Even as a kid, I couldn't help smile every time seeing Hugh on screen. He was just a genuine, good-hearted man with such funny and heartwarming moments.
Hugh was always my favorite character in the show and he's a really good cartoon dad! I recall being a kid and having a fit of silent glee before exclaiming, "Finally! Someone else loves ducks!"
I think its important to mention the money WAS important. Thats why it was so significant that he put it toward the ring. I think its important to mention this because its too easy to try and elevate things by belittling the other thing you gave up, but by doing that you take away from why the decision was so significant in the first place. if the money didn’t matter at all the chose would be hollow. But it did matter, he wanted his duck things like Jimmy wanted his Encyclopedia, thats why the choice was special, because it was an actual sacrifice.
I have to point out that the irony that this boy can make a time machine but is also not able to afford an encyclopedia set is wild to me. Like I feel like the schematics for the time machine would be worth even more than his Dad could have ever made off of the McSpanky's investment! Its a time machine! And like he doesn't even have to sell that if he doesn't want to! Boy's got a shrink ray, jet packs, gum that lets you breath underwater. Like the boy can easily make money, he and his family should be rich!
My opinion on the rich parent timeline is that it happened gradually. Hugh probably got a fancier ring with his first paycheck, and they got married and started a family while the chains were still starting to take off, and timeline wise it makes sense that they only started to get large ammounts of money they actually began investing when Jimmy was a newborn or toddler, having them grow busy and way more detatched from their kid. And about their house, my grandparents live in an old neighborhood where the houses are not that big but with decently sized yards. Its become a thing that rich people buy the old houses, demolish everything, and build massive houses with maybe 4 floors underground on the lots with minimal yard space. The "recognizing" Jimmy thing can definitely be justified in the sense that if you see your kid grow up and at one point of his life looks exactly like a kid that gave you great financial advice 15 years ago, it would honestly be kind of silly to suspect theyre the same person somehow
I don't know if it was an animation oversight or intentional, but if you pause at 9:43 you'll notice Judy doesn't have a wedding ring on her finger. If intentional, it would be super subtle foreshadowing what Hugh's last $50 was meant for.
I always love when you tell us stories about your wife and daughter because the tenderness is always there and that's lovely. Now that I think about it, Hugh and Judy Neutron had one of the best marriages on Nickelodeon and in general. They were good parents, too. Present but not overbearing and always supportive of Jimmy, even with his r/iamverysmart tendencies causing chaos at times. This is one of my episodes of the show because it was the usual 'grass isn't always greener, appreciate what you've got' plotline but done without clobbering the audience over the head with it. And Jimmy Neutron is one of my favorite shows of all time. I remember seeing the movie in theaters and I LOVED Libby's makeover later in the show. Also, the way they wrote Jimmy/Cindy and Sheen/Libby was really good. We need more Hugh and Judy Neutrons and less Timmy's Parents/Bob and Miriam Pataki/Peter and Lois Griffin relationships in Media, especially when the Media has a young audience.
I relate to Hugh now that I am a father and husband. He is silly, boisterous, loving and attentive, but he still makes time for his own personal interests. I appreciate that a good dad is shown as being more than just willingness to sacrifice.
I think Hugh and Judy always put Jimmy first. That would explain why everything that's Jimmy's is the same because everything has been Jimmy's ideal version; his parents would not have an impact on the lab design, and it would make sense for Jimmy to be the one who chose or made his room look the way it does and how going back and forth didn't seem to affect his relationship with his friends. Even with the addition of Helgo, the level of raising Jimmy is identical. It can easily be seen that Hugh wants all the money for the people he cares about, giving gold bars to his son's friends because he can and then giving one of what has to be many to Jimmy himself. Still, if anything, Jimmy would have just been using the gold for experiments, seeing as he didn't need it for money. That also indicates that in either timeline, if it's for Jimmy's education, they do it even at the end of the episode. They give in; if he had not done anything and waited for a short time, he would have learned nothing and had what he wanted. As a footnote, what, if anything, do we know about Hugh's father in the standard timeline? They may have always had a lousy relationship. Lastly, so someone doesn't have to point it out, all these things could be unchanged because it's easier to omit them than try to add them, potentially hurting the flow and overall story.
The thing with most of these animated parents is that they're either written as beyond stupid and neglectful, like Timmy's dad, or abusive. But Hugh managed to subvert that. He wasn't bright but was still a genuinely loving father at the end of the day. Both of Jimmy's parents were, honestly.
Its ironic, Jimmy fits the archetype of a mad scientist that forgoes morality for the science. However because his parents are loving and nurturing it grounds him to use Science for good and often comes out of issues with better understanding for himself.
I always loved when Jimmy had his "Brain Blasts" it was, more often then not, something his dad said, either a complete nonsequiter at the time like "Endless Pie, which ended up helping with his rogue correction bots since the mathematical equation Pi is endless. ,or some actual advice he gave him.
Great video! Very thorough. I think it’s also worth noting the way this episode starts, with Jimmy making his friends watch some documentary they completely don’t care about. From the first moment Jimmy’s selfishness is setup as a major theme of this episode, as he’s doing what he wants to do with seemingly no concern for what Carl and Sheen want. It should be obvious his friends would be bored to tears, but that doesn’t even seem to occur to Jimmy, which happens again when he doesn’t change the channel to watch the commercial only he would care about. It sets up that Jimmy isn’t being malicious, but will put his current interests ahead of his friends or, later, his parents well-being. Similarly it doesn’t even occur to Jimmy to ask what Hugh wants to do with his last fifty dollars until after he learns this life lesson. With these short 11 minute episodes, it makes sense the show doesn’t have time to explore the butterfly effect and doesn’t spare time to ask if the Neutrons would have moved or if Jimmy would even be born in this new timeline, they kinda just coast past those questions, but it DOES take time to set-up Jimmy’s selfishness because that’s at the core of the episode.
Your story about your wedding is so inspiring. I graduated high school about a year ago and finally found the girl who means the world to me but I have a dead end warehouse job, I can barely afford to fill my gas tank, and not currently attending any form of higher education (but hopefully soon) to be honest I haven’t been very happy lately and I worry about it affecting my relationship, but listening to your hardships in life really made my day. Thank you for making this video and giving me the drive to push through life with my head held high.
I couldn't agree more with the idea that hugh is an amazing role model for jimmy. Especially someone of jimmys intelligence, hugh sees the world in ways he never will, and he could learn alot from him.
This was one of the most wholesome episodes of the show and I completely missed the message as a kid. Glad someone's talking about it now cause it gives me a better respect for Hugh and Jimmy's Mom, and congrats to Jimmy for learning by the end
For all of you out there looking for a ring, get a moisanite gem. They are just like diamonds, but don't come with the 5000% markup price. Diamonds are actually super common and have low value as gemstones. Don't let the industry con you out of your money.
I think my whole family loved Jimmy Neutron so much because all of could relate to the characters. And especially with this episode. It reminds me of my dad and how much he cares and loves us.
This episode is a great reminder of how simplistic storytelling can be life changing, even when it seems modest by comparison. Scenes like Hugh sharing advice with Jimmy, hearing Hagrid tell Harry that he's proud of him, or Uncle Iroh telling Toph that it's okay to let her walls down. These stories don't have to be profound, and writers can benefit from simplifying their characters so that they can creative their own stories with similar impact.
I’ve always said that Jimmy’s dad was the best Nickelodeon dad. Sure he can be dumb but he genuinely cares for his son unlike Timmy’s Dad who’s way dumber and ignorant of Timmy’s feelings
@@DuskTillShawn I can't remember the crossover episode well but I think even Jimmy would understand why Timmy wanted to stay in his world if he saw what his parents were like most of the time.

Personally one of my favorite aspects about Hugh is how he usually still tried to be a good and supporting parent despite not being the brightest. Usually it feels like characters parents who are made to be unintelligent are usually also made to be completely horrible parents, but Hugh shows you can be unintelligent and still be a good and caring father! That's one of the reasons why he's my personal favorite father character!
The time travel episode is probably the most important episode for me. Didn't grow up with a dad, so i imagined if my dad was alive, he'd be similar to Hugh. They didn't have a lot of money, yet they did everything to make everyday interesting. He was apparently quite a goofball.
I think there is a subtle dynamic between jimmy and his dad that, because hugh is so goofy, you never notice as a kid. Hugh is the textbook wise man/experienced father and jimmy is the mad scientist/over-educated idiot. It's classic "street-smart" vs "booksmart". Hugh is so happy, despite how simple his interests are, because he's wise enough to know what he wants in life and knows that he doesn't need much to be happy. Jimmy is always causing trouble because he thinks he knows what he wants and is smart enough to invent plans and devices to obtain them. The show could never happen if Jimmy just listened to his dad.
33:23 Maybe Hugh's parents met during the Summer of Love and he was raised in the hippie lifestyle, so until he got to the age where he had to support a family, he just kept that lifestyle he was used to seeing going?
The part in the video where Hugh explains what he spent his money on is the "most replayed" part of the video and I find that to be absolutely adorable.
The fact Hugh chose love and happiness over being rich and materialistic, is more than enough to elevates him above the idiot dad trope. An idiot wouldn’t necessarily have priorities or care enough to keep them straight.
Still adore his line of “Well if your friend’s name was Cliff would you jump off him?”
😂😂😂😂 I love it hahaha
“Well, if your friend’s name was D1ck would you ride him?”
I have to say, when Hugh says he spent his money on Judy’s wedding ring, it always gave me the warmest smile even when I was a kid.
Same. Like you can hear the love in his voice when he says it
Same here 😊 it’s such a heartwarming moment.
Also the line from Judy about canceling their vacation to buy the encyclopedia implies that Hugh did go to bat for Jimmy and suggest they find a way to get it, and that the two of them care quite a lot about Jimmy if they're willing to spend that kind of money on his education and happiness. When i was a kid I thought Hugh was an idiot and very goofy but now as an adult Hugh is awesome he's incredibly nice , chill, down to earth, funny and best of all a great husband and father, in my opinion hes not just one of the best cartoon dads but one of the best dads on tv in general.

@aevenova9780 there are many instances of adult jokes in Jimmy Neutron and dark humor

I just realised , Jimmy left Carl and Sheen in the rich alt universe.
Well one of the timelines. So maybe the other he returned to the original timeline are another versions of his friends
Some of my favorite funny Hugh quotes are:
"Hey, kid. You stink on ice! Go play with your ducks!"
"CRABGRASS!!!"
"I'd rather be dipped in pickle juice and thrown to rabbid weasels!"
"I WILL LIVE!" While carrying Aunt Mo's Pies...

Hugh neutron the dumb dad done right
Even though he's not the brightest bulb, you know that this man loves his family. Unlike Mr Turner. great video shawn.
Right?! He’s a dingus, but a lovable one!
Thanks so much for watching, friend! I truly appreciate it.
Wow, the dumb dad done right is the most perfect way to call this.
I think he's more naive then dumb but its mostly stemmed from his kind wholesome nature.
“Looks like you’re going to the shadow realm, Jimbo.”
Hence why so many peoplle slel the nice things they win on prize shows. Taxes are a bitch.

2) Max Tennison (Ben 10)

@@DuskTillShawn i also love your little stories, you are a great husband and father, keep doing your best
It was a totally new concept for Nicktoons at the time 😆
Hugh really was a breath of fresh air!
I just want to say, that your anacdote where you worked hard in order to get a wedding ring for your then girlfriend was very sweet.
Aww, thank you so much. I was only 19 at the time and it was one of the proudest moments of my entire life!
Thanks for your support, I really really appreciate it. :D
I finally get it. Millennials love Hugh because he was such a positive adult male figure for kids who had few to none.
and the fact that he is a hillarious meme gold mine
no wonder why hugh was beloved by many people both as a meme and a character in general. goes to show that the creators knew what they were doing:)
Living in the same house despite having vastly more wealth actually makes sense for that timeline
If Hugh refused to give money for life saving surgery, why would he spent it on a big mansion. "If i give him money, i have less". He said it himself. Same for Jimmy's bedroom. He probably let Jimmy have those things not because he cares but probably because he would have seen it more of obligation knowing how he acted to him, Carl & Sheen
That’s totally fair! He definitely seemed to have a huge focus on hoarding wealth more than anything.
Jimmy has a literal time machine and he's not already a trillionaire? 😂
Hahaha right?! He’s slacking 😂
He should go into the future and buy an antique sports almanac. All he'd have to do is bet on the winner, and he'd never lose.
@twistedyogert wouldn't he need to do a biff from back to the future 2 where jimmy would need to go to the future and get an almanac and bring it back to the present?
Good point. Dexter keeps his laboratory a secret (even with DeeDee). What's Jimmy's excuse?
Dude literally has the the tech capable of going to mars or the moon in a matter of hours along with some sort of invention that allows them to breath in space without any special suit.
I love the end of that time travel episode
Jimmy could have had both futures if he had instead just brought $50 to the past
Hahahaha now THATS the true correct answer to this whole situation!
😂 I love that idea
I dunno. If he brings bills marked with years within his time period people could get suspicious.
lmao!! the wholleee point is that humble middle class Hugh better than a snotty rich hugh who's too good for everything lol
If we are getting into the logical solution to Jimmy's financial issues he could just patent the sci fi tech he cooks up in his backyard.
The only reason he doesn't do it is cartoon mad scientist logic.
Can you do the same video idea from this but for Jimmy's mom? She is a better mom than most fictional and actual moms
Agreed. I think most people compare Jimmy's world to Timmy's world counterparts, such as his parents, and both of them are way worse than Jimmy's. There should be comparison episodes lol
True! Everyone loves Hugh Neutron, but Judy Neutron is just as good of a character and one of the best fictional moms ever.
I think decent moms aren't rare as decent dads in media.
@@HellecticMojo true but still, some mother's I've seen in the real world and the fictional worlds are... My gosh they suck fr💀
That makes a lot of sense actually!! I totally didn’t consider that!
I remember reading somewhere that this show had a really tight budget, so that would account for it!
You know, I saw a behind the scenes video of this episode
Some of the animators explained that Hugh’s rich outfit is the exact same as his disco suit. All they did was change the color scheme and hairstyle
Just goes to show that even the most subtle changes can go a long way
Your comment reminds me of Spider Man 2000 for the PS1, how they utilized fog blanketing the whole city as a program limitation fueled story element.
He often acted weird. But the entire city was weird and somehow he financed a family and his son's evidently expensive life. So he's a great father. Especially compared to the average cartoon father.
Hugh was a lot better than Mr. Turner from Fairly oddparents.
Truth
Fax
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!!! Thank you so much for watching 😁

"Him losing his inner Hugh-ness"
Don't you mean his Hugh-manity?
Hugh definitely earns his place within the Hall of Dads. I have to wonder about this episode though, how exactly are they able to afford Jimmy's lab? Maybe _that's_ why they're pressed on finances. It's not like we see Jimmy collecting any royalties for his inventions.
As far as Jimmy goes, you have to give the show credit for reminding us that he _is_ still a child. For all his academic intelligence, it doesn't necessarily mean he has emotional intelligence or maturity yet.
Jimmy's lab is either a basement or some kind of underground bomb shelter. He builds everything himself.
@@leahkent3915 True, though there're still the questions of where and how he's getting all that material and powering that place.
He’s always had the best parental charm on Nicktoons!
I couldn’t agree more!!! He really did 😊
Which is more than I can say for Timmy's dad

I looked it up, $50 in the 70s translates to $400 now. Not so bad tbh for someone who is on a budget as a young adult
It probably strengthens the underlying detail about Judy and Hugh's relationship that they are both appearently living a 60s lifestyle in the 80s/90s.
How did the boy genius not know that his parents wouldn't recognize him or his friends at a time before he was born?!
Right?! I was blown away that he didn’t connect those dots before even approaching them lmao
maybe it was an emotional reaction so he wasn't thinking clearly
As I got older I appreciated Hugh so much more. Dude is hilarious
Right? Hahaha
He’s so funny.
Hugh was always my favorite character in the show and he's a really good cartoon dad!
I recall being a kid and having a fit of silent glee before exclaiming, "Finally! Someone else loves ducks!"
Ducks are amazing 🤩
🦆
Right?! When you look at it that way, this episode makes little sense lol
There’s SO MANY better ways Jimmy could have gotten rich haha
It’s no wonder why Hugh became so popular on the internet
I don't know if it was an animation oversight or intentional, but if you pause at 9:43 you'll notice Judy doesn't have a wedding ring on her finger. If intentional, it would be super subtle foreshadowing what Hugh's last $50 was meant for.
The "I'd rather be covered by bees, and I'm allergic" hits so hard.
At 21:40, when you said "losing his inner Hugh-ness," you lost the perfect opportunity to say he lost his Hugh-manity.
I relate to Hugh now that I am a father and husband. He is silly, boisterous, loving and attentive, but he still makes time for his own personal interests. I appreciate that a good dad is shown as being more than just willingness to sacrifice.
Thank you for making this video. I never put that much thought into Hugh, but painting him as a GOATed dad opens my eyes to how awesome he truly is!
Thank you so much for watching, friend! I really appreciate your support 😊
The father figure everyone needs tbh you can tell he has a big heart and just wants the best for his son😊😊
Hugh is just so homely and wholesome
My favorite episode was return of the Nanobots that episode show that Hugh neutron really did care about his family when he couldn’t find them.
Love that you're covering Jimmy Neutron! I really hope come Halloween you cover the special "Nightmare in Retroville"!
My thing with this episodes premise has always been that Jimmy could sell an invention he came up with in an afternoon and be rich
He’s a minor. I don’t think he can legally. I don’t know if that’s true though, but that’s one reason I can think of.
many of his inventions have backfired or are too dangerous for public use.

Glad to see you back
Thanks, friend!
