I bought my first ocarina about a month ago. At first I thought that I would have problems playing the ocarina, simply because I had never seen one. I am a blind woman, and so I had never held one in my hands. But when I got the ocarina, I found that my worries were unfounded. My ocarina did not come with a booklet, so I had to go on UA-cam and listen to people who could play the ocarina relatively well. I finally found your tutorials, and found Them to be most helpful.
I love you and GOD loves you! I hope you are blessed and give him praise in all you do! Thats what he wants from us, to make him first in everything! Looooove! JUDAH :)
I just got mine in the mail today, It's even more beautiful than in this video! The sound is still quite loud but not overbearing, and the breath pressure is super easy to get used to and I had no trouble at all reaching the highest notes unlike my STL 12 hole. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a double chamber ocarina.
I got this oc and I really like it. High quality at a fairly low price for a multi-chamber. I also like the ridges - it's so stylish! It's quite comfortable and feels good in the hands. Transitions are a little hard, but that's just me.
Your playing at the end was sooo beautiful! =) I like the extra reverb you've added - makes it really haunting! I find your reviews fascinating even though I know nothing about ocarinas! Have always found your videos very entertaining.
You might want to check out Hind Ocarinas. Not only are they even breath pressure, but they are beautifully crafted from various woods. Ogawa ocarinas from Japan are close behind that. I'll keep the Forte Triple review in mind :)
I'm not sure when it was made, because I purchased mine second-hand from another ocarina player, but I just got one of these, and there is a hole for a neckstrap. And I love your videos. Not only is your ocarina-playing lovely, but they're always very informative and helpful, so thank you for that C:
This is currently my current Ocarina, thanks to this review I decided to buy it a long time ago, and I can definately see the details about the airy sound between the chamber switching. but like you said, its not a big deal. The ocarina is great especially for the price and the design makes it so simple to do chamber switching. Very fun and very cool looking, its years late, but thank you for this great review.
Jeez have I ever been playing this ocarina wrong. And to think The Doc had already prescribed the answers for me months before I got it! Thanks Docjazz, you're a real pal! (Before the fan-base rips me to shreds, cut me some slack, it's my first double and it has more holes than a sponge! Different layout, too.)
I'm getting this ocarina for my birthday, in July. Can't wait!... ;; Anyway, great review, makes me even more excited about it! Everything in this ocarina is beautiful!
Songbird carries focalink's doubles. They are all focalinks, shipping is just cheaper in the USA from Songbird. Focalink is in Taiwan, so shipping can be a monster sometimes.
The way you described the fingering and how to play the scale Was very helpful To me. So I would like to thank you for doing such a great job in describing how To play the scale. I would have to say that you're one of my favourite ocarina players On UA-cam. My question is: where can you find an ocarina like this? How much would it cost?
What is the difference between this Ocarina, and the Thomann AC Stein Double Ocarina? They both look similiar, and at the same price point. Which one is best for a beginner? I do read sheet music very well, been doing it for 8 years now. Just looking for a really good Ocarina to play some nostalgic Zelda song's on :)
this should be arriving tomorrow in the mail with my dragontooth. let the 12 hole and double ocarina adventure begin. thanks david for the reviews. i hope the songbird people pay you well ;D
Well.. This is random but i really and truly think that iguana you torture day and night with your awesome ocarina playing deserves a video about just the iguana... Everyone would love it....
I love the sound of it! You play beautifully. where do you buy one of these? I ordered super cheap one off of Amazon, which is good enough for me until I figure out if I can actually play it. But once I can play well enough to not be embarrassed to let others hear me play then I want to invest in something that has a pleasant voice like the one in your video. Thanks so much for all the work you put into your videos.
im not him, but what i would recommend is a 12 hole C major ocarina, tenor/alto c, or soprano c depending on which you think you'd be more comfortable holding. probably one made of plastic is best for a beginner, so if you drop it by accident it's much less likely to break. or if you're feeling confident perhaps a ceramic one would be good too. once you feel confident with a 12 hole you might then upgrade to a better 12 hole or a multicameral or multichambered ocarina.
Man, I'm really bummed out I didn't get this. I chose the Alto C LOZ Ocarina of time with the bonus chest and songbooks instead. I don't regret my purchase, but I really feel the range limit. And now it's unavailable DXXX can't wait for this to be available again!
I like the sound you produce when playing the ocarina. May I ask how microphone and how can I get a good sound when I make a video for UA-cam?? Thanks a lot for your time, nice work and advice !!
Why doesnt Bachs Minuet or other pieces sound as good when i play it on mynocarina?? It's not my playing..but its REALLY frustrating and depressing..but why soesnt it sound as good..i hope you can please respond..
Focalink ocarinas have a somewhat complicated (to us beginners) labeling. I might get a double or a triple, but not a quadruple. I like a two octave range. But most of all I want a tenor to a bass sound. Which of their ocarinas fits this description? The one you demoed has a pretty nice sound.
two serious questions. 1. do you know of any ocarinas that do NOT use rising breath pressure? i've never heard of one. and 2. could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a serious review of the Forte Triple as well? i just recently ordered one and i'd like to know your personal thoughts on it.
I've try to find this ocarina on the Internet that I can't find the website that sells it the only website I found keeps on changing to Chinese whenever I click on anything help please
If anyone reading this owns the blue STL double ocarina (Doc also makes a review on it), which one should I get? I hear that focalink has much higher quality and that the STL has some bad tone issues with the subholes.
Hey david i am a long time veiwer and i am also curious about what sound system you are using and where i might obtain one, thanks a million if you can help!
I just bought a 8 hole sweet potato ocarina (6 holes on the front, 2 holes on the back) and I haven't found anything about them in youtube and google is not help either, can you help me? Websites, tabs, anything would be a great help.
I'm probably buying one of these in the next few days and I'm wondering if you there is a name for the third sound sample you played. I liked the tune and I want that to be the first "new" song I learn on that the Focalink Dolche Double. I've got a repertoire of about 35 songs as it stands and I'll probably relearn all those on it first, but I want to learn that third one as the first NEW addition to my list of known songs. XD
Ceramic clay with strawfire outer design. (They wrap a strawlike material around it after fire it and burn it along with a special lacquer to create the design)
@kickassmage A good quality yet not expensive at all ocarina, is the Focalink plastic Alto C. It's astounding sound quality and durability makes it not only the best plastic ocarina in the market period, the price is worth it as you will not be able to tell the difference between a plastic focalink's sound and a clay focalink's .
Hey David, I Am 16 on July 29th, And I am going to buy my 6th Ocarina. And i was looking for an Double, so i thougt why not buy this one but i realy like the Forte one, but it's a little more then this one, Is it eney diffrence in sound or is it just the looks?? I allready have gotten 2 Ocarinas from STL for about the same prize each and the sound is AWEFUL! so a month later I bought my first from Sonbird for about 50$ and it's a Focalink and the sound is Just AMASING!! But please make a respons soon xD Thanks!
@docjazz4 Hey David, I know people ask you this question a lot, but what is a beginners, inexpensive Ocarina? But your opinion hasn't changed since you made your first OcTalk video, then you don't need to answer.
Get the Dragon tooth! It is one of the best ocarinas both in tuning and beautiful sound. Also it is very beautiful itself and Durian Songbird appears in the starting page of songbird ocarina with the dragon tooth. I don't think that is a coincidence.
I think you already know, but purchasing the Focalink DAC Dolce from the focalink website... will have the hole for a neck strap. But really, its unimportant.
I just got this ocarina in the mail yesterday and what bites is that I woke up SICK yesterday. Coughing, aching, all that lovely mess, and while normally it would be irritating, it's MORE irritating because I want to play this new ocarina but I"m not fond of slathering it with germs only to get sick again. T_T I"ve looked at it a lot and handled it some which leads me to ask, do you have any tips on the second, higher chamber?
I am kind of baffled right now... I just got my first double:D but its the newer version that focalink just released a little bit ago... But the fingering is different! The finger chart he sent me is for the older double... So I have no idea for what the correct fingering is... Does anyone have the tabs for the scale for the newer version of the dolce?
thanks for the review david! i have two 12-hole ocarinas, and i plan on buying this one as soon as songbird gets some more in stock. i did have one question though. when playing the first chamber of the double, are the fingerings the same as they would be on a regular single chamber? minus a thumbhole of course.
Hey I have a question I'm looking for a alto ocarina that isn't a replica because I don't want people to see it and think Zelda! I am also looking for a double so I'm thinking instead of buying a single chambered and a double might as well just buy a double and use it for both. I was wondering what you thought was the best double to start off for doubles and isn't super expensive. Also what site did you get your favorite ocarina?
The first ocarina I ever had was a plastic twelve hole Focalink. Can anyone reassure me that it was the material and not the brand which completely sounds awful?
@docjazz4 Okay, to make my question more specific, which sweet potatoeOcarina would you suggest more for a beginner? (maybe, what key, hole #, range, voice type[soprano, alto, etc...])?
hey, i've never rlly played any sort of musical instrument before and was curious as to what that lovely kind of vibrating sound you produce at the end of a note is called and how to achieve it?

EmeraldFire best wishes from me goes out to you, I bet you play the ocarina very well.
I love you and GOD loves you! I hope you are blessed and give him praise in all you do! Thats what he wants from us, to make him first in everything!

Just ordered this one.
Been practicing on my Focalink plastic Alto C. Looking forward to stepping up!
I love how you did the chromatics and arpeggios in different keys.
Really restores my hope in ocarinists.
I got this oc and I really like it. High quality at a fairly low price for a multi-chamber. I also like the ridges - it's so stylish! It's quite comfortable and feels good in the hands. Transitions are a little hard, but that's just me.

Click 4:54 - that's where the music starts :)
Please "thumb up" to keep this on top.
What is the title of that song?
You might want to check out Hind Ocarinas. Not only are they even breath pressure, but they are beautifully crafted from various woods. Ogawa ocarinas from Japan are close behind that. I'll keep the Forte Triple review in mind :)
8 years later i finally bought one!!!!
I bought mine today!!!😀😉
I'm not sure when it was made, because I purchased mine second-hand from another ocarina player, but I just got one of these, and there is a hole for a neckstrap.

Thanks for posting. Very helpful review. I love this ocarina. Not only sounds great but looks beautiful too.
Waiting for this review for a long time. Awesome as always!
I'm getting this ocarina for my birthday, in July. Can't wait!... ;; Anyway, great review, makes me even more excited about it! Everything in this ocarina is beautiful!
Oh Danny boy, the pipes the pipes are calling. From glen to glen and down the mountain side.
Songbird carries focalink's doubles. They are all focalinks, shipping is just cheaper in the USA from Songbird. Focalink is in Taiwan, so shipping can be a monster sometimes.

I do read sheet music very well, been doing it for 8 years now. Just looking for a really good Ocarina to play some nostalgic Zelda song's on :)
It's the same ocarina. Thomann is a reseller of Focalink/Stein ocarinas.
this should be arriving tomorrow in the mail with my dragontooth. let the 12 hole and double ocarina adventure begin. thanks david for the reviews. i hope the songbird people pay you well ;D
Well.. This is random but i really and truly think that iguana you torture day and night with your awesome ocarina playing deserves a video about just the iguana... Everyone would love it....
You have some really nice vibrato going, David! Great ocarina!
You calling that ridge a mountain made me lol. It was adorable :) And I like when you do reviews, definitely keep going them if you can :D
I love your ocarina playing
Oh my that sounds so nice!
I love the sound of it! You play beautifully. where do you buy one of these? I ordered super cheap one off of Amazon, which is good enough for me until I figure out if I can actually play it. Thanks so much david!!! This ocarina will definitely be my next purchase.
has beautiful tone and range i like it. very nice
Here's my question, do you have sheet music for Oh Danny Boy? I absolutely love that piece and want to play it on my double.
Man, I'm really bummed out I didn't get this. I chose the Alto C LOZ Ocarina of time with the bonus chest and songbooks instead. I don't regret my purchase, but I really feel the range limit. And now it's unavailable DXXX can't wait for this to be available again!
Love watching your reviews :D idk why but they are so entertaining. And informative. Docjazz da bess.
Thank you for your advice!
Focalink now have a newer version of this Ocarina with a neck cord :)
I like the sound you produce when playing the ocarina. May I ask how microphone and how can I get a good sound when I make a video for UA-cam??
Thanks a lot for your time, nice work and advice !!
I'm not, unfortunately. It's an amazing show though...I think you'll love it :D
Why doesnt Bachs Minuet or other pieces sound as good when i play it on mynocarina?? It's not my playing..but its REALLY frustrating and depressing..but why soesnt it sound as good..i hope you can please respond..
are you playing this ocarina in your Midna's Desperate Hour?
Focalink ocarinas have a somewhat complicated (to us beginners) labeling. I might get a double or a triple, but not a quadruple. I like a two octave range. But most of all I want a tenor to a bass sound. Which of their ocarinas fits this description? The one you demoed has a pretty nice sound.
@legendariosoul Oh I almost forgot. It's the 12 hole Alto C Focalink. God bless y'all !
two serious questions. 1. do you know of any ocarinas that do NOT use rising breath pressure? i've never heard of one. and 2. could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a serious review of the Forte Triple as well? i just recently ordered one and i'd like to know your personal thoughts on it.
the song danny boy sounds really nice and haunting on ocarina
I've try to find this ocarina on the Internet that I can't find the website that sells it the only website I found keeps on changing to Chinese whenever I click on anything
help please
Lovely Sound!!
@HiroshiZMatsu Thank you. That's totally the word I was looking for XD
If anyone reading this owns the blue STL double ocarina (Doc also makes a review on it), which one should I get? I hear that focalink has much higher quality and that the STL has some bad tone issues with the subholes.
Is it true that it's better not to use a neck chord?
Hey david i am a long time veiwer and i am also curious about what sound system you are using and where i might obtain one, thanks a million if you can help!
I just bought a 8 hole sweet potato ocarina (6 holes on the front, 2 holes on the back) and I haven't found anything about them in youtube and google is not help either, can you help me? Websites, tabs, anything would be a great help.
i dont really get how to play the chamber with only four holes
can you please explain it?
Weird :S my Focalink DAC does have a hole for a necklace.
Did they add that later? or is it just me?
I'm probably buying one of these in the next few days and I'm wondering if you there is a name for the third sound sample you played. I liked the tune and I want that to be the first "new" song I learn on that the Focalink Dolche Double. I've got a repertoire of about 35 songs as it stands and I'll probably relearn all those on it first, but I want to learn that third one as the first NEW addition to my list of known songs. XD
the second chamber on mine sounds higher than yours haha - but I have only had it for like 5 mins and don't know how to properly play it :)
Why are some double AC's signed, while others just have AC engraved in them.
docjazz4, i'm wondering if you will ever make a focalink alto c ocarina review 'cause I can't find one on your channel, thanks
Hey docjazz you can do a review of the Focalink plastic 12 Hole Sweet Potato Alto C ?
Thanks :)
Can the Double Ocarina you were playing in this video withstand being dropped on a hard surface?
Awesome video.
I love the song How Great Thou Art. :). Question, what is the cheapest non plastic multi-chambered ocarina you are aware of?
what was the first song he played
Do you happen to know where I can find the tabs for this ocarina? :D thanks in advance if you can answer :3
it's a really recognizable song if one has heard it be4.
How much in GBP would I pay for this ocarina or one very simular?
And Where could I get it?
If someone had a desire to start learning how to play an ocarina what would you choose as a good starter?
Hey David, I Am 16 on July 29th, And I am going to buy my 6th Ocarina.
And i was looking for an Double, so i thougt why not buy this one but i realy like the Forte one, but it's a little more then this one, Is it eney diffrence in sound or is it just the looks??

But please make a respons soon xD
Thanks!
Can anybody tell me if with double ocarina I can play 2 notes together? For example C and E in the same moment? Thank you very much
Damiano Lassini yes you can play bi-chords.
excellent on the ears :)
Hi David.Nice review!:D I wonder what s the difference between the New and the Standard one beside their price.Does the New worth the money? Thanks!
Sandy Lim I'm wondering that too.
I am also wondering this today.
Sold
@docjazz4 Hey David, I know people ask you this question a lot, but what is a beginners, inexpensive Ocarina? But your opinion hasn't changed since you made your first OcTalk video, then you don't need to answer.
What is the title of the song?
How does this compare to a Dragon Tooth Ocarina?
Get the Dragon tooth! It is one of the best ocarinas both in tuning and beautiful sound. Also it is very beautiful itself and Durian Songbird appears in the starting page of songbird ocarina with the dragon tooth. I don't think that is a coincidence.
There are also Ogawas that don't use rising breath pressure (I have a few non-rising breath ocarinas, and they annoy me)
I think you already know, but purchasing the Focalink DAC Dolce from the focalink website... will have the hole for a neck strap. But really, its unimportant.
I'm looking at getting a double oc, and I'm wondering what the pros and cons are of this one vs the forte model.
Any help is much appreciated!
What is the last 3rd thing you played? ( the song ha)
Hi David, would you agree that Focalink/Stein produce the clearest to al quality in an ocarina? If not which would you recommend otherwise?
hey david, great review! is the double Dolce model better than the standard STL double?
What is the third song? It's beautiful, I'd love to learn to play it myself!
'Danny Boy'. It's a a traditional Irish melody.
You'r ocarinaplaying is the best ;w;
I just got this ocarina in the mail yesterday and what bites is that I woke up SICK yesterday. Coughing, aching, all that lovely mess, and while normally it would be irritating, it's MORE irritating because I want to play this new ocarina but I"m not fond of slathering it with germs only to get sick again. nice review, please make a seperate video for danny boy!
what is the song starting at 5:31 ?? can someone tell me please ^^
thanks for the review david! i have two 12-hole ocarinas, and i plan on buying this one as soon as songbird gets some more in stock. i did have one question though.
when playing the first chamber of the double, are the fingerings the same as they would be on a regular single chamber? minus a thumbhole of course.
This very well might be the next ocarina I get. I highly prefer the Taiwanese subfingering to the Japanese.
Also what site did you get your favorite ocarina?
i was wondering what would be a good dual chamber ocarina for a beginner, i have a 12 hole alto C ocarina and im looking on getting a dual chamber on?
The first ocarina I ever had was a plastic twelve hole Focalink.
Can anyone reassure me that it was the material and not the brand which completely sounds awful?
Have you ever thought of doing any of the Kung Fu Panda music? That'd sound awesome on an ocarina, I'm sure.
@docjazz4 Okay, to make my question more specific, which sweet potatoeOcarina would you suggest more for a beginner? (maybe, what key, hole #, range, voice type[soprano, alto, etc...])?
How did you make the sound eco like that it sounds like its coming from my brain!
Nagashi Satoshi that’s reverb. It’s editing.
@camdavbax thanks for the reply!
Was this the ocarina you used when you play zeldas lullaby?
So, are the chamber always played separately or can they be played together in harmony?
S2000 squad that's what she said
Original, clever and mature. Well done!
soslothful thanks!
hey, i've never rlly played any sort of musical instrument before and was curious as to what that lovely kind of vibrating sound you produce at the end of a note is called and how to achieve it?
That's called vibrato. It's made by a delicate wavering of the diaphgram.. Sort of like laughing, but the only effect is slightly different pressure.
I got to the web site but which one is it?
its the first one
