    Songbird should make a dragon tooth double ocarina. Call it the dragon molar..

    I was so stressed out researching different fingering methods (osawa-style vs taiwanese, etc.etc.) and then disovered in addition to that, that there are various ways to play F# on different ocarinas which varies by manufacturer as well. Soooo many variations made me so uncomfortable as I frantically searched for my own preferences and tried to learn as much as I could while emailing back and forth with Mr. Kuolong Pan (craftsman of Takashi ocarinas).
    It was 4 AM yesterday and I sat here, eyes bloodshot, while researching and trying to meet the deadline for preferences before he made my ocarina... and I come to the part about "Or just buy them all... with your Monopoly monies" and I just lost it. It was my breaking point. I had been so stressed trying to make sure I'd get my ocarina to be perfectly tailored to me, and when I got to that point I started laughing uncontrollably. I can't wait to join the Oc community lol.

      @willybee3056 5 років тому +7

      The confusion of all the fingurings is why I just went with 6 hole pendant. It is limited, but I only have to learn once, and for all.
      I have 40 songs in my library, and 4 committed to memory. I only play for myself, and that is good enough for me.
      If you want to win all the time,,, only play the games that you can win all the time.

    Perhaps a discussion on how the material affects the quality of sound? Like how a wooden Budrio may differ in sound from a same-octave porcelain/ceramic Focalink, or something like that?
    Or maybe advice on playing songs by ear, since I have trouble with that XD

    • @Lightsaga

      I really like this idea of Ocarina sounds depending the material.

    • @theocaratic
      @theocaratic 10 років тому +3

      or just ocarina sounds by maker/type. for example, focalink has several different dolce models (A+B, i think) and a forte model, and it would be interesting to see how they relate to each other and, say, STL ocarinas and Mountain ocarinas

      The material isnt much of influence as much as the maker, so which brand is better would be more accurate

    I showed a friend of mine Freckled Zelda's America's Got Talent interview recently. It was the first time I'd seen it in a while, and was actually really happy to notice she was playing a multi-chamber ocarina. I promptly pointed this out to my friend, who instantly said she was surprised I didn't want one.
    The thing is... I *do* want one... but as a beginner to ocarinas -and playing music in general- I know that I don't have anywhere near the skill to play such a beautiful instrument. So if I did get one now, it would be a waste of money and collect dust on a shelf until I'd have the skill to play it

    Ah! ha!
    That darn F# explained on the double!
    Got a pendant 6 hole ocarina for my birthday in Feb, and Loved it!
    So, went Strait to a double (for extended range purposes). Have now purchased a 12 hole because, at this point, the double is Way beyond my ability! Figuring out that F# was one of the problems. (No fingering chart came with my double, so learning to play it by watching your videos!)
    I do have previous experience playing other types of wind instruments, so learning breath control and learning to play songs (Not the ones in the book that came it) was Very easy for me on the pendant.

    This was super informative. Right now I just have a small 6 hole Hylian shield shaped ocarina. I bought it because it looked neat and was inexpensive. David Erick Ramos u know what david i actually like how ur jus normal. too many ppl try to be overly energetic to the point that it seems completely put on, fake and ott and it makes it hard for me to watch those kinds of youtubers cus they get on my nerves. u are so much more relatable and thats what makes u my fave and probably what has assisted in ur popularity. please dont feel pressured into being something that ur not. i know that imo itd make ur video less enjoyable. ur quirkiness and kinda shy like personality is endearing for someone who has so very many fans. jus remember there isnt another ocarina youtuber with more subscribers than u so it means ur doing something right and its not jus ur playing u can thank that to, its jus the fact that u are u. completely genuine. i really loved this video. it did inda raise some more questions for me but i dont think im quite ready to play a multichamber yet so ill cross that bridge when it comes to it. thank you for making them seem less scary tho

    Hey David I really love watching you're videos its what inspired me to learn to play the ocarina myself. I got two ocarinas this past Christmas and they are both 12 hole alto c. Now I've learn to play a couple songs like lugias song and sarias song but sometimes even just after playing for about 5 minutes my pinky on my left hand will lock up and it really hurts sometimes. I was wondering if you could please make a video on how to properly hold an ocarina without straining you're fingers to much I've tried looking through you're channels and can't find one so could you please make one or leave a link to were I can find one that would be extremely helpful. Thanks a lot man for taking the time to do you're videos. Sincerely Jordan.

    Can I ask the key signature of your Pacchioni Tripla? Is it in C or B flat? And would you consider doing a review of this ocarina in the future? Your video convinced me that I want to learn the Pacchioni style for multi-chambers. But I cannot decide between alto C and Bb! C seems easier (and I am still beginner at this) and more versatile, but Bb has a more intriguing sound, I think. Thanks for the video, and looking forward to more!

    Have you tried STL triple and double purple clay ocarinas? I am interested in a large range but am very particular about a professional sound. From videos I've seen those ocarinas impress me the most as far as sound quality, however investing $300-700 in something you cannot even try with your own hands is risky. I've watched subakuryu channel and talked to him and he gave me some info about them but I was wondering if you had any opinions on those ocarinas or any comparable ones to them.

    Hey David! My name is Hilsson Angeles, i'm a beginner at playing Ocarinas, I got my first Ocarina just a few days ago, it is an Alto C Zelda Replica, I also bring it to school every day, and almost everyone loves it! I even got to play 2 songs for my History class.- Lost woods and Happy Birthday. Anyway I have learned the scale and such, but then I tried playing it in Band class, my teacher said unless it can play 8 scales then it isn't qualified as a Band instrument, which made me really upset considering that she has a Zelda Replica Ocarina her self, so I just stuck to playing the trumpet and Piano.
    Another thing, thanks to you, I learned how to play my Ocarina #Octalk ! Also Since I need to play more scales im thinking of getting a three chamber Ocarina for my birthday- February 22, 2001, so what do you think?
    Sincerely, Hilsson Angeles :)

      Eli Gregory Thanx, I will, I also play the harmonica, the smallest amount of Acoustic guitar and some things on the electric guitar, all instruments I own except the electric guitar including the ones In my comment which are the trumpet, piano/keyboard, and the newest addition to the family- The basic alto C 12-hole Zelda replica Ocarina. Lastly i'd like to mention since I don't currently own an electric guitar, I am building one in my woodshop class in school, with a Warlock pattern, bevle round-over, and a basic warlock headstock, the guitar will be light green with gold on the bevle, and it will have the tri-force sign from twilight princess on the body of the guitar.

      Whoa whoa whoa, your band director said what? It doesn't have to play eight scales to be a band instrument... I would think as long as a song can be transposed for your ocarina you could play it. I actually thought about doing the same thing, but I realized my flute had more octaves than my single-chambered Zelda STL ocarina. No I have the Zelda Double ocarina from STL, and I have to say, just by adding a second chamber, the range is impressive. I think the major problem with ocarinas is that you cannot tune one. If you could tune it, it would be an absolutely beautiful solo instrument, or maybe you could convince others to play it and have an ocarina *SECTION*!! Anyways, my two cents... Although you don't need a triple ocarina for that many scales. A flute can play 8 scales easy with just two octaves. Double Chambered Ocarina could probably do it.

      Amen brother, I was actually thinking of making an entire band of Ocarinas, but then that would just be an Ocarina guild, Though I can't make an Ocarina guild because im not old enough. :'(, I have to be atleast 18, im also receiving 5 new Ocarinas for my Birthday! So with that I can share the art of musics with those who want to learn how to, might wanna carry some wet wipes though, don't wanna catch any Ebola. lol
      I also live in New Jersey, so the closest Ocarina Guild is 7 hours away in Pittsburg. Maybe when I become 18, ill make one............................................

      Hilsson Angeles You can do as I did invest in a concert type ocarina STL sells them and I believe you can achieve the same with double triple and quadruple ocarina's. I wasn't in band class but I always finished my class work early and ahead so the teachers didn't mind me going to the band room and playing along or demonstrating the ocarina. I don't play the multi chambers yet mine is waiting at my folks home along with my elf ocarina till I move then they'll mail it to me. I use a concert style ocarina as present here www.stlocarina.com/rajaficooc.html.
      Though in my opinion all ocarinas can play in a band it just takes some time to find a place seeing how school bands are bands already formed when ever the program came (usually on the formation of your school) so the teacher's that take up the torch of the previous just follow how they did along with their schooling they learned. If you want organize a group with your band teacher and have her form something you can do during event's or something fun when bands travel like a theme park etc.

    hi David, I've been looking at tabs for a double ocarina, but in all the tabs I find, the never show the right thumb hole to be covered or not. does the right thumb hole always stay covered or what? thanks
