  • This is the Manero Peripheral Big Date from Carl F. Bucherer. CFB is a fully independent watch brand, and has been since 1888. I've been looking forward to covering this brand, and hope to bring it to the attention of some new watch collectors.

Being a watch collector is surreal we find value in 10k watches and yet we can clearly see the craftsmanship required to make these amazing movements. This brand is incredible.

I’m glad that you did a piece on CFB. I have their Manero Heritage Annual Calendar chronograph. It’s a remarkable piece that is much less than any other maker with this sort of complication. Another item is the partnership between Bucherer and Wilsdorf (Rolex). When Wilsdorf was starting he gave him space in his jewelry store. I the photo you shared this is why you see Rolex and Bucherer together on the building signage. There has been a close association since Rolex was started.

I own a CFB Manero Retrograde… a very handsome watch with 34 jewels. Like u said, a very underrated brand, which many folks have not heard of. Unfortunately, it had lost lots of its original value in the resale market but what the heck…it makes me happy wearing one unlike a Rolex.

I own a 60's gold bucherer watch that I inherited from my grand father. He bought it in brand new in Switzerland in the 60's and I still have the original receipt . I had it evaluated last year and was given a estimated price of 20k to 25k $. The jeweler told me it wasn't a model that was very popular right now and to wait a few years before selling it (If I ever do, which I probably wont).

I work at a gold and silver shop. I had someone bring in a 18K 1955 Bucherer chronograph, it's utterly gorgeous. Black leather band, 18k gold, it pops. It was sitting in his fathers desk for 30 years. We have an in house watch repair guy - he cleaned / timed it. It runs great, looks almost brand new. I snagged it for 2k and it feels like a steal.

Right on Bruce! I've been waiting for Bucherer to get some love. In your reviews, I'd appreciate a close look at the bracelet quality, and your perspective on what kinds of brands the finishing is comparable to. Amazing peripheral rotor, that was new to me. The other thing I'll say about Bucherer is that it was *perfect* product placement / costume selection for John Wick. Centuries of history, independent, under the radar, totally refined, kind of old world, you'd kind of have to know about them, etc.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  Рік тому +2

Hi Bruce - I was researching this watch brand and was happy to find you made a video about it. Looking forward to your journey and to see which CFB you may get. I’m cross comparing it to the Breitling Premier line. I wish some of CFB’s cases were thinner, but more complications often to lead to thicker cases.

  • @Achernosky85

I tried on a few colors of the Carl F Bucherer Scubatec while traveling in NYC and it really got me liking this brand. I literally tried on everything at Tourneau, Bucherer, and watches of Switzerland that were 42mm and over and would fit over my hand and on an 8” wrist in stock form. This pretty much amounts to Omega divers, Breitling, and some others. I looked at the Manero flyback in silver dial on bracelet too. In my opinion, the case finishing, design, and quality of Carl F Bucherer punches way above these other watches in its price point. Easily a few levels above. Not considering the lower end sellita based movement in the Scubatec, just from a finishing, overall look, function, and feel standpoint. Neither Omega or Breitling really had anything that had the same pop like the Patravi Scubatec did -and don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect. I really liked the Manero Flyback too. Knockout on finishing, bracelet design, dial layout, and overall quality. Compared to the Scubatec, the Manero just didn’t have the same tough masculine look, almost 50/50 brushed with lots of high polished surfaces on a larger, more sculpted case and bracelet like the Scubatec had. The Scubatec is gonna stand out and be way more gangster if that makes any sense lol. The whole Patravi line has made some really awesome, ahead of their price point timepieces that have that same tough but elegant quality. The Patravi T-Graph on bracelet, Patravi Evotec peripheral on bracelet, Patravi Chronodate on bracelet and many more if you look. For me looking at larger sized divers under 10-15k the Scubatec just stuck out as a much higher quality diver for the price than its competition. On the Scubatec the things I can do without are the bezel having two different colored ceramic inserts, that bugs me. The blue is also too light. I’d like a 6 o clock color matched date, center links of the 5 link bracelet polished, slightly sharper looking handset and indices-they are kinda rounded because the design incorporates manta ray shapes everywhere on the dial… and it would be so much better with the peripheral manufacture moment modified to 4hz and twin barrel main springs… a display case back…With some minor changes - major in the movement dept, the Scubatec could be a total knock out timepiece destroying just about everything in its segment at 10-20k.

This watch is magnificent! Its funny how only hyped watches are thought as good by people. C.F.B have only been manufacturing watches for around 20 or more years. Before that, Bucherer sold bought-in watches in their jewellery store with the Bucherer name on the dial.
When they started in house watch manufacturing, they named the watch brand Carl F Bucherer, so the watch company was not founded in 1888.
Prior to C.F.B. Bucherer watches sold in the Jewellery store were excellent chronometer rated dress watches, and I have one in my collection.
I also have a C.F.B. Tonneaugraph, which in my opinion is better than a Rolex Daytona.

My dad once gave me a vintage Bucherer he got at a yard sale for $1. I had never heard of the brand, and I'm an avid collector of mechanical watches. I looked them up, and sent the watch to their US facility for an overhaul. It came back looking great, and is still running within COSC accuracy. I was so impressed that I bought a Carl F. Bucherer Patravi. The build quality on that watch is fantastic; and I think it has a Top-grade ETA 2824-2 movement, with blued screws; a screw-in crown, and fine leather strap. It still runs within COSC accuracy, even after 5-6 years of regular wear. They are under the radar in the USA, and my best-kept secret for getting a world-class automatic, without paying huge prices.

Reminds me of another Swiss Watch maker that’s on very few people’s radar that was also founded in 1888, and that brand is Atlantic. These Bucherer watches are works of art no doubt, but pricing them at Rolex price levels will keep many only looking, not buying. Atlantic uses the common Swiss movements that are in many other Swiss and German watch brands, that makes them far less expensive. If you haven’t heard of them, check them out.

John Wick wears a Carl Buchere. Underrated brand. Great review Bruce

Underrated because a fictional movie character wears it 🤣

Hi Bruce. Would seriously consider one of these for the collection. However I’m wary of butterfly clasps and getting a good fit. In you review can you tell us about micro adjustment or half links etc and how easy it is to get the right fit.

I thought also for a while about Bucherer, nice watches, yet the size is a bit big if I recall right, they are all over 40...maybe would be nie some details into wearability. Thanks great contents as usual

Bucherer is the main AD for Rolex in the US handling their new preowned product. They also bought out the watch retail giant Tourneau.

Anyone who has been paying attention to watches in the last few decades would know this brand - and it’s associated retail stores. They now bought Tourneau in the US, so the name should become more familiar in the mainstream going forward.
