Lance - great video! I really liked how you approached the overview by giving a taste of the game and not playing a scenario. Glad to hear this plays well solo as well. Looking forward to this one.
33:10. A correction: the two orcs are dominating the area because they outnumber you two to 1, so they get to do an extra hit, for a total of four hits against your hapless dwarf.
Lance,First off, love your videos. My tastes and my roots are similar to yours and this game was almost an auto back (even more so now with the revealed 5 headed dragon add-on). I read the beta rulebook and I have also played around a little bit with the Tabletopia demo, but something I cannot get a feel for is whether the heroes feel and play different. One of the biggest fails of this type of game is the heroes are essentially the same except a few abilities and gear (see Descent or Super Dungeon Explore or the D&D Board games). I know this game takes it's roots from online MMO's and games like Diablo and in MMO's roles and classes are very different, does this game do a good job of making each character feel and play like unique characters?
Just backed it; very excited. Been looking for a game like this for some time as well. Most dungeon crawls usually need 2+ players and while I do have an active gaming group we don't usually play the same game twice in a row so solo is important for me. The few solo dungeons I've played usually look plain (D&D Adventure games -boring tiles), too simple (Mice & Mystics), or have a theme I'm not as interested in as much as fantasy (Gears of War).
Great Review, as usual, Lance! Between this and 7th Continent, your solo-play is looking very busy in 2016 :-) Regarding the Folklore or S&S question/comment; could you take a couple minutes and elaborate briefly on which mechanics and/o game-play you feel is the best "strength" for each? I'm just looking to get a better idea if one is a better dungeon crawl or one is a better campaign or better theme or better combat ... something that would help me decide which I will choose to back as I'm limited on funds (too many great games lately on Kickstarter) based on what you feel is going to the strongest element for each and how that fits with me and my gaming group. Thanks! Super appreciate the preview reviews!
+Sl1vers Actually, I may be able to make this easier ;-) Is the "character leveling" mechanic in S&S as strong and rewarding as it seems; bettering Folklore in that specific area? If so, that is enough to make a decision on as. Character leveling / development is one of the areas which the many "dungeon" board games like Wrath of Ashardalon (seriously, only two character levels?) are a huge disappointment to me and my gaming groups. Thank again :-)
I love Folklore, but I don't consider it a true dungeon crawler (it's kind of its own thing). So I must say: after mastering the rules over the course of the first two quests, this game takes the cake for dungeon crawlers. Best ever. I hope they make expansions for years. Thanks for the review. And I would dare not play less than 5 heroes. I find each one has a role that supplements the others.
While I'm much more of a fan of the type of sword & sorcery fantasy found in the old pulp Conan stories written by Robert E. Howard or the Elric/Stormbringer books by Michael Moorecock, I'm definitely a fan of fantasy and really enjoy a good dungeon crawl so this is something I'm definitely interested in. I've found that I really enjoy Descent 2.0 even though aesthetically if I had my way the setting would probably be a bit darker. I can definitely see why some may not be fond of the setting especially because the game mechanics for 2.0 have been streamlined and are fairly intuitive and work excellent. That said, Imperial Assault features probably the best version of the Doom/Descent ruleset to date.
So being HEAVILY invested in Myth, Would this have a place alongside it on the shelf? Would you play one more than the other? We have a rule, it either has to be better than an alike game and replace it? Or it has to be different enough to warrant having both, if both would be played. Your thoughts?
I'm not Lance but I feel GD and Myth are different enough to warrant having both. Myth is more of a puzzle on each tile - how can I take out the most monsters while gaining the most treasure while taking the least damage with the cards I have. GD is more like coop Descent, story-driven with fewer but harder enemies and time is usually of the essence (e.g. the Event deck is the timer). I assume S&S is the same. Like I said, both are good but are slightly different.
+Ropya As of right now, until I get my hands on the Myth expansion stuff in about a thousand years (hee hee hee) I would take this first...but randomfleming is right, you really can't compare them.
Hehehe. People using 4th Ed. D&D as a reference to something Just Not Good Enough is alright in my book :D I also noted he almost mentions D&D twice in the intro.
I have the same issue trying to decern between Folklore and S&S. I've watched all the vid's and I'm feeling like Folklore will give you a more RPG Story emersed feeling and S&S while it provides that it looks like it gives you Diablo on a TableTop, more of a video game feel.. With that in mind I will have to decide either both or one over the other... All of which will be tough.
+Steve Billups First of all...amazing Avatar. I had that for myself for quite awhile. Secondly...I simply can't pick one. I know that is lame but I want them both. If you held a gun to my head I guess I would pick Folklore, but that is only because I have played it's many incarnations until it became the game that it is today.
+UndeadVikingVideos - thanks for the response. At this point I'm backing both. I greatly prefer the look and tone of Folklore to the generic fantasy of S&S. But I picked up Galaxy Defenders and the combat is really fun so I'm on board.
7 years later and find this video. Very cool. 😊

Sadly, Lance is correct. Myth may come in the mail in 2017 at this point. :( Ares/Gremlins has a better track record for delivery (and rulebooks). :(
when u level up w/ proper amount of soul gems..does ur health replenish to ur new level of hps..?[for exp..even if ur down to 1 hp]
How would you compare/rate Sword & Sorcery up against Dungeon Saga?

do you know where to find this? ive been looking everywhere for this but cant find it

UndeadVikingVideos what do you predict on replayability of this game?
Man how I love your game reviews, so much love put into it, thanks for being sort of my concience for buying games. Waiting for S & S to arrive.
