- “Reissues” - Ft. Prophet 10 rev 4 - Arp 2600 FS - MINIMOOG - MS-20 and more - Powered by BlueARP DM
Tonight, I perform some live Trance using a combination analog and digital reissued synths I own. The track is my original work, and features the Sequential Prophet 10 rev 4, Korg ARP 2600 FS, Moog Minimoog Model D and the Korg MS-20 Mini. I am also using a Roland TR8s, a Roland D-05 Boutique and several Roland Cloud drum machines and synths as well.
The cool thing here is that a good chunk of the sequences and patterns are driven by the amazing BlueARP DM MK.1. A hardware Arpeggiator and Pattern Sequencer developed by Oleg Mikheev, AKA Graywolf. I have been fortunate to help Oleg with beta testing the BlueARP DM and have been itching to get it more integrated into my workflow. This was a great opportunity to combine a bunch of wonderful analog and digital reissued synthesizers with this super cool BlueARP hardware.
I have a few backing tracks all played live on the V-Synth (which is multitimbral.. how many of you knew that? Lol) triggered with the Ableton Push and one instance of Omnisphere also adding an almost string like swell.
Below is each synth and what it was doing in this track-
Hardware Synthesizers and Drum Machines:
Korg MS-20 Mini - Main Bassline (Sequenced by BlueARP DM)
Moog Minimoog Model D Reissue - Secondary Bassline (16th note pattern sequenced by BlueARP DM)
Korg ARP 2600 FS - FX (the long sweep at the start of each 2 measures is the 2600, this also is triggered with BlueARP DM)
Prophet 10 Rev 4 - Main Lead (played in real-time by hand, including filter cutoff modulation)
Roland D-05 Boutique - FX (a short dry sweep heard at the start of every 2 measures, triggered in Ableton Live)
Roland V-Synth - Secondary Synth Lead and backing track on second timber. The Lead is played in real-time by hand including filter cutoff modulation, but the backing pattern is triggered on MIDI chnl 3 of the V-Synth sequenced by BlueARP DM.
Roland TR8s - The thicker clap that comes in is from the TR-8s - this is sequenced in Ableton Live
Soft Synths:
Roland Cloud
TR-909 for kick, Crash, clap and High Hats (Sequenced in Ableton Live)
TR-808 for High Hats and snare crescendo (Sequenced in Ableton Live)
Jupiter 8 - FX - A rapid stepped riser you hear at the end of every 2 measures (Sequenced in Ableton Live)
System 8 - another synth lead, heard at the beginning of the change right before the Prophet 10 comes in. (Sequenced with BlueARP DM)
Omnisphere 2.6 - Ambient type sound.. hard to explain, almost like a cello swell or something.
I think that’s all folks lol. Enjoy, thanks for watching!

Video was recorded in real-time, with 4 cams (which look like potato quality, sorry) post editing was just to cut between these and I added some B-roll of the MS-20, ARP 2600 and Boutiques which were tough to see. Check the description for details on what each synth is doing in the tune. Enjoy!
Nice jam man. It takes a lot of work to really nail one down. Some people make it look so easy! With the camera situation; I have yet to use a web-cam or GoPro style cam that comes close to the quality I get from my cheap DSLRs. They are a bit harder to work with but my footage always look great with them (even after it gets crapified by UA-cam). Mainly where the small digital cameras suffer is in low light.
@@impurfekt yeah, I'm using 2 cams that are over a decade old one GoPro all of these are terrible in low light, I'd upgrade these but I keep buying synths instead lol. Think I'll be building a video wall in here to replace that LED video curtain but after that, new cams are on the list!
Nice. Someone who besides owning gear, does something with it.
You mean they aren't just expensive bits of furniture?! :) I really appreciate having these wonderful synths and really love making my kind of music with them!
@@MarshalArnold exactly you put them to good use!
Superb performance, Marshal. Loved all of those great thick vintage tones you made for the song. :)
Hey Cryss! Thanks man! I really love that MS-20 for bass, the Prophet 10 really blows my mind with that lead I should have picked up some DSI/Sequential stuff years ago, it sounds fantastic! Better late than never :)
Awesome yeah the Prophet is real workhouse of 80s and soundtrack music
WoW! This sounds 90s trance perfected! Glad you kept it going, shows dedication and creative brilliance! 👏
Mooo! Hey, thanks CowFood! I had planned originally to stop around the 5 min mark, but just keep it going to tickle that V-Synth's Supersaw bone 😁
Live Trance? Loved every second of it!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks a ton! Love your work! Yeah, this tune was produced with all reissues of vintage synths. This one here is my latest, using synths more typical of trance ua-cam.com/video/x9AU8VztUJk/v-deo.html
Bangin' Marshal :)
4x4 all day long Jamie! lol I should have stopped after 5 mins or so, but improved that VSynth line was just too much fun lol!
Great work... all these re issues!
Reminiscent of a 90’s track!
Thanks John! Oooh I love me some 90's trance that's for sure, very cool that came through in the performance, it was 100% intentional!
Woow. Awesome just got a big kick up the ass. Very powerful track. Love how you have captured that weight in the sound that is so missing from todays music.
A perfect blend of musical ingredients Marshal. :-)
Many thanks Adam! Thanks for checking it out! I have to appreciate that all the ingredients are some of the highest quality in the world, which makes for some delightful soundscapes and a real joy to engineer music like this, things just sit so well together! The toughest part was the performance aspect, I practiced for weeks, still fumbled here and there, but that whole side of things is new to me. I'll get better and better hopefully :) Next time I'll add in a more complete composition with a break and change-up too!
Astonishing! 🕺💃
I see Marshal Arnold live performance in my feed and I go to it straight away. Great work with the reissues. The beat kind of reminds me of some of Stock Aitken and Waterman music from back in the days in their heyday.
Many thanks! Funny thing, I didn't know who Stock Aitken and Waterman were but after seeing your comment I found a very good documentary about them. I had no idea they were responsible for so many hits in the 80's! Very cool and am flattered if my writing and production skills are even remotely compared to theirs, so many thanks!
@@MarshalArnold I actually worked with Stock and Aitken on a project in the early 90's but not Waterman. They are legendary for hits in the 80's. The collection of gold and platinum discs they had on the lobby walls back in the days was ridiculous. You have a sound that is on a level with theirs IMO. If we ever go back to night clubs and festivals being what they were you really should supply the top djs that you know with your music as it's top professional quality.
Very Cool 😎
Sounds awesome Marshal !!!!
Echo!! What up brotha! Thanks man, this was super fun to make!
I just listen to this again and watched it !
it’s awesome!
Hope all is well with you sir.
Hey Echo! Thanks man! Doing good, just posted this little number this AM after an all nighter ha! Cheers man! ua-cam.com/video/oCr8DkBDYCw/v-deo.html
Nice! Great trance track Marshal.
Many thanks jppagetoo!
Nice one marshal. I liked the subtle snares.
Thanks Ato Zee!
Stellar performance! :)
Many thanks Haze!
Impressive!💕
Thnx, mucho besos !
Awesome!
Yo Justin! Love your channel man, many thanks for checking out my vid!
Way to go Marshal, awesome stuff. Such an array of wonderful gear and sounds, jealous!
Thanks Inverted- Popes! Is pretty incredible just to think about having access to these synths, even more so to make the music I love with them!
Terrific! Not only this is the most elaborate performance with BlueARP DM so far, but also it sounds great. I mean all the parts are glued togetner nicely, theme development is good and you found the right balance between arpeggiated and live-played parts. I wonder if you use some realtime post-processing on the audio like limiter/compressor or sidechaining, cause all this parts sit in the mix quite well, like in a produced track
Thanks Oleg! Yeah, audio is processed in real-time through Ableton. I basically took my usual workflow production wise and carried it over to the live setting where the synths are all live, sequenced by BlieARP DM and yet the mix is still top tier (hopefully lol). I use my usual signal processing chains and some oZone on the master out. I still do have to contend with some latency, but it's not bad at all because of BlueARP. Everything is all in sync and makes it possible for really amazing live dance music! This is why BlueARP and especially BlueARP DM excite me so much, this is really only possible because of your invention!
This felt good. Eye miss music having feelings!
Thanks Mack!
@@MarshalArnold you're welcome!
Re-listening to this track after a while and reading other's comments I realized how great are FX sounds on this track. I'm usually too lazy adout FX sounds in my performances, but here you show how important they are and how much they add to overall track feeling like a professionaly produced one. All the sounds are great, but the one sound that catches my attention with its wierdness is the sound starting from 2:44, sounds like a pigeons cooing ). I wonder which synth is that
Many thanks Oleg! Yeah, that sound is the V-Synth, on chnl 3. BlueARP DM is running that. Then later in the tune I play some improvised notes on chnl 1, a Supersaw sound. I had another sound setup on chnl 2 as well, but decided to take it out since the track was already sounding pretty full and busy. But yeah, it's the last 10% of those little details that add to the polish of a track, sometimes I spend more time sound designing and mixing for those than anything else. It's like the cherry on top of the ice cream 🍨
Great Stuff ❤
Thank you!
Pretty insane set up
Thanks! Funny thing is when you realize that the V-Synth is the oldest synth in this setup lol.
@@MarshalArnold dangggg
Hey Marshal, this is great work man I love it! Thanks for the description of what’s doing what too.
What is that kind of maniacal washed out cry that’s being a hook like every 16 measures? I’m loving that whatever it is. Great to see you banging out some live Trance. Screen looks awesome too.
Extra fantastic love bow at the end. Nice, dude
Yo Tim!! Many thanks man, really appreciate it and is high praise coming form someone as talented as yourself so thank you again :) So that maniacal cry your asking about is the ARP 2600, I made a patch that uses the envelopes to so some weird things to the filter and oscillator 3.. the result is, the longer you hold the note the crazier it sounds. At the beginning it kindof just is like a filter sweep and that's being blended with a D-05 patch at the start, but that note is being tied in BlueARP for several steps (acting like I'm pushing that key still) and releases this amazing and ominous cry. I souped it up in some reverb and sculpted with the EQ and it fits right in!
@@MarshalArnold I love that sound design hook in a track. Brilliant!
Yeah, I always design new transition sounds for every tune, gives each one a unique flavor. Plus is fun as hell to design for that stuff, is like the icing on the cake!
@@MarshalArnold yep. Super badass
This is awesome! But it would've been hilarious to drop a couple of fart sounds to see if people were paying attention 🤣
Lol that is how you get a Synth performance video to go viral 😂👌
@@MarshalArnold that would be hilarious 🤣
Username checks out.
Great performance! Are you planning to get the MS-20 FS? So, which reissue is your favorite? Or is it the V-Synth because D-Beam! :)
Many thanks Janne-setä
! I will prob pick up an MS-20 FS eventually, but for now am fine with the Mini. I'll have to see if there's any vs vids between those. I know the FS has the 2 filter types with makes me want one though.
D-Beams 4 LIFE!! lol I should have used them in the track, damn missed opportunity there lol. I'd say the KARP 2600 is prob my fav of the reissues, but honestly they're all so awesome it's super hard to say. I really love all of these. Hope Roland will come around and give us a Jupiter 8...for real then I will be content :)
Yes, next time some epic d-beam dive bombing! :)
Whats doing the bass?
The MS-20 mini is the bass
Is this in this guys house?
He must live alone.
No room for humans here, only Synths!
@@MarshalArnold my kinda life!
