Thanks, very nice exploration. And just a few tasteful pitch wiggles and no many ugly, unskilled ones. One of the best musical portraits of the Osmose.

Thanks! Yeah, there's a few patches where the sensitivity is super touchy, def takes some getting used to to play, but it's super expressive and a lot of fun!

Audio captured via Ableton Live, I did add some reverb and delay. Think it sounds epic! Enjoy :)

12:12 this is where the osmose shines, ethnic instruments, not sure about the orchestral strings , many cello , violin players have commented on various demos that the movement of articulations do not sound authentic I have to agree but I think overall worth trying I am on the list n thx for posting

If they released this as an MPE controller without the eagan matrix synth engine it would sell like hotcakes

I noticed you played "Choir Addictive" however I have the Osmose and my CA doesn't play anything whatsoever. I assumed it slipped through the OS update and was temporarily defective. Seeing you playing it what does that mean for my Osmose? Odd that one voice doesn't play out of 500. What OS & Matrix update are you using? I also saved about 50 custom voices to my computer and then reloaded them back to Osmose and about 11 did not play any sound. I'm wondering what's going on with my unit. I reloaded the OS using a more advanced computer still both computers are windows 10 however this time it worked correctly or at least the CA now works. I'm going to try the save function using the Alienware but this might mean that lesser computers might have issues transferring data to the Osmose. That still shouldn't happen, it needs a failsafe duplicate 1s and Os mirrored confirmation because it reported to me "successful" when it was not.

That's some odd behavior, did Expressive E provide any explanation/assistance to resolve? I haven't done any changing of the presets or making custom patches really yet so don't know if I'll hit the same snags. Sorry to hear that though, really weird.

hmmm... im not so convinced. a lot of those patches i wouldnt know how to incorporate into my sort of music. just too "artifical" somehow.

It's kind of crazy to me how the standalone push 3 is $100 more than this thing. I think Push 3 is more like a Push 2.5 and is under developed. The Osmose seems like it does a lot more for what it is than Push 3 does. I think both things are still 10 years off from really getting MPE where it needs to be. MPE is stuck in limbo like guitar synthesis and augmented/virtual reality spinning it's wheels for like ~30+ years.

      @MarshalArnold  11 місяців тому +2

That's a great comparison! I feel like Osmose is really the first properly developed product to leverage MPE properly. This is really a cool and game changing instrument IMO. Hopefully we'll see some other innovations from other manufacturers, it seems like Osmose is pretty popular.

It's probably the most popular at this time. As a new owner, I am stunned by what anyone can achieve "if" they understand the options for key pitchbend wiggle.:)

Keyboard is very attractive but sound is not so much, if you search for realistic acoustic instrument, the engine motors doesn’t bring that as it should be, specially the modeling physique one, lack of programmation or of the engine itself?

I don't find the sounds in this keyboard to be very useful for recording anything other than techno or movie soundscapes.
For standard song production its best to go with a Nord.

Ah, sure, but I think this synth engine has some legs for other genres. This is just a demo of a handful of presets. There's more in here, and I didn't really tweak anything or create custome patches. I'd be careful making a full judgment on a synths capabilities based on patch demos. In this case, many patches are designed to showcase what makes this instrument different, the Keys themselves. This is the most expressive synth I've ever played, and it's not just Poly aftertouch, it's a whole experience that's hard to explain, it's better demonstrated with your own hands on one. Not to mention any MPE capable synth or plugin, you can use Osmose ad an MPE controller for any of those as well. It may not be for everyone, but it's absolutely unique and well made. I find this approach much better than something like a roli seaboard.

@@MarshalArnold Okay, I must admit that I was very impressed with the amount of expression that you can use while playing the keyboard.
However, when listening to the type of sounds that are generated by the engine, I simply couldn't imagine a large crowd actually enjoying watching a keyboardist play.
I'm 53 years old, and I come from an Era when all we had for entertainment was vinyl and live bands (before 1982 MTV) Era. This is a time when keyboard musicians were given solos, played beautiful melodies, carried the rhythm with nice chord progressions, etc.
I can imagine watching a keyboardist play a Klavinet (Hershel Happiness, Bernie Worwell, Stevie Wonder), a Wurlitzer (Donny Hathaway), a Hammond B3 (Jazz, Gospel, Blues, and classic 70s 80s rock), a mini Moog for sqealing leads and hot thumping basslines, etc.
However, today's crowds go nuts just to see a deejay twist "filter knobs" and tap drum pad samples all day with the computer keeping everything tight; they don't even appreciate the "turntablists skills" of real blending, cutting, and scratching from the 1990's, let alone understand or respect the chops of a keyboard player.
Maybe, if we could use these boards to program sounds that resemble the tones, tails (less reverb), and expressions (velocity, aftertouch, and sustain peddles) of those classic keyboard instruments that I named above, and bring back the appreciation of live music performances (in lieu of MIDI and now A.I.), then I can see myself selling my Audi Q5 to pick up a rack of this new, exciting, cutting edge gear.
Yes, I still find the new gear to be amazing if not someone mindblowing.. I love the new A.I. that uses "stems" to remix samples. I love the synth engines (oscillators) modulators found on the Hydrasynth and Osmosis boards. I love the huge storage capacities of computer based samples like Native Instruments Kontakt. However, to be perfectly honest, I think my major problem is not wanting to say goodbye to a "by gone" era.. AND thus, I've lost most of my inspiration and motivation to play keys, produce and master tracks, and engineer.
Now, all of that being said, I'm still very impressed with all of you "old heads" that managed to keep your passion.
** Keep doing what you're doing because without you guys and your experiences the younger generations would be totally clueless regarding the art of writing, producing, and recording music.

It's true tho that there aren't any decent pianos, EPs and organs with the Osmose, and its keyboard wouldn't be the first choice for those, either. So, you'll want another keyboard or 2 for those (piano and organ style keyboards). For choir, strings, brass, plucks and synthy sounds, I like Osmose.

These boards are way too expensive for the actual use. Why sit these expensive boards in your rack when you can buy better patches from Native Instruments.
Just grab yourself a Nord Stage 4, and a Native Instruments Kontakt and be done with it. You would have everything you need to produce a lifetime of music in every genre.

Well, personally I enjoy the nuance each synth I own has to offer. I own and have owned plenty of Nord synths, love those for sure and own lots of software and love them for their convenience and easy recall, but is like having a well stocked tool box with more than just a hammer and screwdriver, only so much could be built with a limited set of tools. Sometimes you need a chainsaw, or a bulldozer lol nothing wrong with a minimal approach either if that suits ya, or a full on in the box setup. There are no wrong ways to invest as long as you're making something and enjoying it!
