    Can I ask if you’ve ever been made to feel uncomfortable on any of your trips? I’m travelling solo soon to Thailand and Bali and I’m worried about finding myself in a situation. Any hints and tips on confidence ?

    • @alandeb
      @alandeb  Рік тому

      Hey Jo, My experience will be different to a solo traveller as I’ve travelled with Al for for nearly 30 years now. My only recommendations are to be respectful of culture, polite (with a smile) when saying no. Learn no, thank you in Thai and Indonesian and also a few basic words or phrases. Never tell anyone it is your first time in their country. Buy a SIM in both places and use GoJek in Bali for transportation or book a driver for longer trips. Use Grab in Thailand and public transportation is great. Keep your drinks close and don’t walk the streets by yourself after 11pm. Know how much you want to spend on something prior to bargaining. When they give first high offer, you give a low ball offer. They’ll come down and you go up until you teach an agreement on price. You can say no thank you and walk away if you can not agree. Both places will be hectic at first but are so worth visiting! Enjoy 😊🌸💗

    Suggestion - stay in Ubud or Back of Seminyak for peace and quiet!
    Legian and Kuta are so busy and traffic now all along south is terrible…
    North and east for total peace!
    All the people sprooking you to buy gives us the shits and that is what turned us off Bali but you handle so well! Good onya! Third world country with 1st world prices for tourists..

    • @alandeb
      @alandeb  Рік тому +2

      We love heading to Sanur because it is so much more laid back than Legian side and you don't get hassled to buy over there either. Prices have definitely go up a lot - even since November last year! Luckily though you can still do Bali on a budget if needed. We didn't pay more than $35 for any accommodation for 7 weeks and most of our meals were warungs so they were usually around $12 including a drink for 2. But I definitely agree that a lot of prices are very much the same as Australia at the moment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

    Hi guys would you recommend a hotel?

    • @alandeb
      @alandeb  Рік тому +1

      It really depends on your budget. We’re doing hotels super cheap this time because we’re here for 7 weeks. So our budget is pretty much $30 per night. Legian Village was approx $25 per night. Great pool. Great location. The room has aircon and fridge with no mould smell in bathroom. Only downside for us was the band every-night because our room was so close (why we changed to the quiet side Joni 2 on Garlic Lane) but in saying that, they did play a lot of great music! 👍🏻

      20 years ago we would have been up dancing every night! 😂😂 We had approximately a 1.5k accommodation budget for 7 weeks and we’re lucky enough to get this hotel for about $25 a night. Awesome location if you like being in the middle of everything. Side 2 (Joni 2) is very quiet and also has a small pool. The main side has a large pool, bar and restaurant.
