- Hello everyone and welcome back. Today I will be undercoating my 4runner. Apologize in advance for the audio. I had the GoPro covered so oil wouldn't get on it.
I highly recommend doing this to you 4Runner to make it last as long as possible.

Thanks, I also live in the rust belt, I've been using wool wax for the last few years. But I've never removed the gas tank skid. I also do inside the door panels using the spray cans via the drain holes for the product. Love my 4runner.

Believe me you did the right thing . Im a 3 year user of surface shield . Did my new 250 , i hated to do it with a brand new truck that was so shiney underneath but it has to be done 👍

I do my 2000 4Runner every other year with fluid film. It’s a Nevada car, a rare rust free 4Runner with absolutely no rust. A rarity in Massachusetts. So far so good. Great video!

thanks for the tip on the gas tank plate. i need to revisit that. didnt take mine off at the time it looked like a pain. but i should this time.

Good job ! Proud owner of a 2023 SR5 Premium. I did exact same way but used fluid film with a combination of corrosion free formula 3000 anti corrosion. Some of the tight areas i also used Krown product like KL73 so it can creep in where the salty water will from the road salt. One thing i would like to correct you is that the area blocked by the spare tire is crucial coz that's where all the moisture gets trapped in. You can't ignore that cross members and body area hidden by the spare tire. You also have to soak the spare tire chain and the release mechanism coz its common to seize up if you don't remove the spare for a long time. Before the 2023 4runner i had a 2018 and ,i would remove the spare tire every fall and rinse that area with a garden hose and re apply the rust proof if needed be. Also it gets the tire release mechanism going also. Also try to do the engine compartment with a more thinner product like Krown. Our winter here in Toronto Canada is brutal. Cheers!

I just found your channel... I'm in NH. I did this in Dec. of 21 on my new at the time '22 ! Same gun, same product. Love the surface sheild it doesn't stink like the fluid film. And it doesn't wash off with road spray nearly as bad. I used fluid film inside the doors because I was changing the speakers and didnt want to break out the big application gun, used a spray-can. smelled it for a month or more LoL !! I will be doing another application/touchup next month on the undercarriage , before the snow/salt. Hands down is best way to protect your frame and other bits underneath for sure. Took out frame plugs and got inside where I could. You have a nice rig there.

@@badriverrunner I put down a large cheap harbor freight tarp and drove the front up on ramps, on the tarp. and wore my reperator LoL.
Just coated a 2500 Chevy with 4 gallons of wool wax, safe to say it will never rust lol, lanolin based products are the ONLY rust prevention that I trust and have first hand experience with

I too, am a Toyota owner, & yes, it's a Prius. I HAVE owned an 81 SR5 4x4, but many other Toyotas, (I'm a senior now). Anywho, u did an excellent job. I like your attitude & I sub'd & gave u a 👍. Are/did u do inside your doors/hòod/tailgate? I had my car done by a undercoating place. As old as I am, I still get underneath & spray with cans along with yrly touchups from shop. I use fluid film and super shield. Anything like those products are fine.

Lanolin is like Red Hot sauce. I use that shit on everything. My brand new 2024 4Runner is getting this treatment today before I begin driving it. Bought a 5 gallon pail of Surface Shield and rattle cans of Fluid Film. After the 4Runner I'm hitting my wife's Honda Odyssey and my 2004 Jeep Wrangler.
Its already too late on my Rx300. The aftermaret that was applied years ago started to flake off... only thing thats of concern with the car. Got a lot of life left to drive it till the actual wheels rust off

What kind of prep did you do before laying down the surface shield? Also how does this work on a frame with a good amount of surface rust already?
Well my 4 runner is only a few months old so hasn’t seen salt yet.. didn’t need to do much for prep. As far as yours I’d take a steel brush and try and get as much rust off as you can. Depending how bad it is maybe use a rust converter before hand. But highly recommend!!

yearly application is what we've been doing for decades. If you live in the rust belt easy peasy decision. GTA gets salted/brined all winter.

Thanks for the video. Any truth to the claim that lanolin/oil based products can degrade rubber bushings, boot, hoses, etc.?
Honestly in my option it probably won’t but I wiped it off of rubber just to be safe cause you never know
Hello Im in NH too,I purchased a 2023 40th year from Grapone for MSRP and they performed a waxyol treatment to the frame and inder cathage for 850. dollars guaranteed as long as I own it- its a must in the rust belt forsure

I don’t drive my 4Runner in the salt. I use the RAV4 for that since it’s covered with plastic. Rust kills 4Rs.
How much SS did you end up using?
I filled up the bottle 1 and a half times not to bad still have a lot of the gallon left
