  • Great short story by one of the key authors of 20th century. "The Bridal Party" by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a story of love, loss, and reconciliation set against the backdrop of a lavish Parisian wedding. Michael, the protagonist, is devastated when he learns that his former fiancée, Caroline, is marrying another man, wealthy Hamilton Rutherford. Initially, Michael is consumed by jealousy and sadness, especially since he still harbors feelings for Caroline and believes her choice was influenced by his own financial instability. Throughout the festivities, Michael grapples with his emotions but eventually..... won't reveal the ending here.

I’m amazed by the complexity of the treatment and the vapidity of the characters. It reminds me of cotton candy. There’s an appearance of beauty and geometric complexity, yet it’s just whipped sugar without any enduring nutrition. It’s irresistible to the eyes, and to. The immediate impact of biting into air, and sticky sugar..it’s indelible on the memory. I feel nothing pulled at my heart strings, but I’m mesmerized by the power of Fitzgerald’ intricate mirrors that make up a character when looking back at the experience of reading his creation. I believe that they really existed.
