- This week we sat down and spoke with Yossi Landau from ZAKA.
Founded in 1995, ZAKA's volunteers arrive at the scene with one mission: to recover the bodies of those who die in an unnatural way.
In Judaism, a person must be buried whole. ZAKA's crews work tirelessly to recover as many body parts as they can from the scenes they are called to.
It's considered the greatest mitzvah a Jew can perform for another person.
Yossi Landau has been with the organization for 33 years and has been all over the world.
Yossi was a first responder on October 7th.
In this episode he tells us what he experienced.

The brutality and evil of these attacks on Israeli citizens shows a hatred far deeper than a dispute over land and political power. People have overcome worse treatment than what Palestinists claim, and done so peacefully. This wasn't just an attack on some Israelis, or even just an attack on Israel. It was an attack on all innocent women and children and everyone who cares about them.

The kibbutz itself also denied the description, and said that "the story of the pregnant woman reported by Zaka is not relevant to Be'eri." The police are also not familiar with the case at all, and a source familiar with the examination of the bodies at Shura base also told Haaretz that he is not familiar with the case. They said in response that "the volunteers are not pathology experts and have no professional tools to identify the murdered person and his age, or to declare the manner in which he was slaughtered, other than eyewitness testimony. "Regarding the testimony about the pregnant woman, ZAKA explained that due to the difficult condition of the bodies, the volunteers may have misinterpreted what they saw."

Thanks to my grandmother having to flee Vienna, Austria for her life with her younger brother believing their parents would follow (long story, but my great grandfather was from Amsterdam and the US - where my great grandmother already had siblings … had already taken in their limit. My great grandmother wouldn’t leave without him. So they waited together. And they both died.

I am from south Texas. I am a former nurse. I have been a first responder on and off the job. I have the upmost respect for everyone who answered the call that day to run into the frey to save lives. What yall did in the aftermath of that day also holds my highest respect imaginable because most people cannot even begin to comprehend what was required of y’all to do to gather the fallen.
I am a Christian and I stand with Israel. Thank you for sharing your testimonies and please continue to do so. My extended family is Jewish and one member survived Auschwitz, however, she rarely speaks of it because of all the trauma she endured and witnessed. I can’t imagine that heartache and turmoil. I do believe though that what was witnessed and endured then and what was done on Oct 7th MUST continue to be shared so more people learn and will stand against this evil. We are keeping y’all in our prayers. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I'm not Jewish but have been absolutely HORRIFIED. I'm also frightened by people who aren't horrified by 10/07. I don't want to hear this, but I believe I must. I've debated quite a few people. This will never be normalized for me.
So much to learn in this. That those who lost their lives at the music festival saved others because it disrupted the terrorists plans reminds me that I do credit my student who died during our school shooting at Reynolds HS in Oregon with saving many of us with his sacrifice.
