You took that entire 90% of top growth right away?
How long after did you root prune and repot? I just picked up a nice BNS and I'm trying to plan my spring work on it but I've got major reductions to make and I've heard these are finicky trees, any advice on hard pruning, root pruning, and the timing you follow would be great. I appreciate the video as not many on this species out there.

Yup, I took it all one go in the spring. Repotted the following spring and trimmed a little. During repot I kept a lot of roots untouched and it’s in a rather large bonsai container to help with repot. Interesting that you heard they are finicky, I find them super resilient. I hard pruned one in the fall hoping it would make it, major wiring etc. it almost died but is still alive, I don’t recommend hard pruning just before winter. The tree you see here is the second of two spruce that I’ve done, I think in my earlier videos I have another BNS I do similar work on. Hope this helps😀👍

Is that a creek or a pond in the background where the low level chain link fence is ..?!?

Ya it’s a small pond. I have a few goldfish swimming about. It helps to reduce the noise of the road traffic. Thanks for asking
