- In this video, Jason goes over how to create a bonsai from raw material nursery stock. He goes over the strategy on how to approach nursery stock including choosing a front, selecting branches, and setting a starting structure. He also discusses future design considerations to be mindful of while the tree is growing. Hosted by Jason Chan of Eastern Leaf.

This is my favorite type of bonsai video. Raw material transformation.
Thank You Jason. Glad to see you and your videos again.
Excited for a fresh new start with this tree! Looks very promising!
Super helpful, to learn how to think big picture rather than the ‘instant bonsai’ that everyone wants. Big love from Sydney Australia.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge I’m glad to see you doing videos again 👍👍🇵🇷
Hi Jason, just found you and lovin' your clear teaching. Thanks
Great video, always looking forward to your next one, very educational, I have a couple of junipers that I haven't touched yet, this video helps alot. Keep them coming...Ralph
That's a nice tree👍
I've just started watching your offerings. I like your content 👍
Thanks Jason, great basics.
This was so useful! Thank you!
Great video! Your content is super helpful
Excellent video
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Excellent class thanks 👍
Great video!
Awesome video! Thanks for all the tips and infos you put in your videos! Especially for beginners like myself!
One big question i have with every juniper i have handled the past 2 years. After every major action i take on my junipers ( either pruning branches or roots) i get on the leaves spike one instead of that smooth fine leaf. How can i handle the tree so that it doesn't affect the growth that much?
Great info !!!
This bonsai movement is like your bonsai that you made in your video 5 years ago.. i like the movement
Nice job!
Good work 👍👍👍
Love your instructional videos. Keep it up. Can we get a year after update?
Fantastic 🙏🏻🌲
How are you, my Friend. Have they recovered any of your trees? Thanks for the excellent vids.
Thank you for your patience and information . My confidence is surely growing . I have question . What soil mix can I use if lava and akadama is not obtainable ?
This video was very useful. Jason, how long did you let this tree grow in the pot before you selected it for a bonsai?
I have been taught to work on the Nebari first. So I was confused why you didn’t?
Me too so I was also wonder why you didn’t explore the base to see what it looked like
thanks for the video! How long would it take to go from this first work to a ready to show tree? How old do you think that tree is? Have a great day :)
If potting back into the same container would you place it flat to grow on or at the angle we are viewing it at the end?
I have a number of badly overgrown juniper bushes in my yard that I would like to thin down to a bonsai like tree - can you do a video on how to do that?
Did you place it back in the original container? If so how long would it remain in that container? Awesome video Thank you!
He did from the way he talked about it. I'd wager he either repots it into a training pot in the spring or it stays in this container for 2 or 3 more years.
Thanks for sharing a brand new textbook tree kind of project, I love these 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm looking forward to those new artist curated trees on your site, hoping to see a Chinese Elm in there, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm in love with my large Chinese Elm from you, it has been flourishing!
What's the initial (first months) after care for junipers after such a hard pruning ? I was afraid of doing something like this in one go because I thought junipers don't like too much stress at a time.
I suppose you don't repot this this and keep it in its original container ?
Also I live in a warmer mediterannean climate zone 9.5-10, so I think I should wait until the middle of the winter to do handle junipers like this.
Good stuff
What cut putty is that?
Is it possible, if you were to dig down to find the nebari, it might be low enough that the first branch on the left can be used since it would essentially be higher on the trunk?
Thank you for asking the same question I had. Total respect to Jason (he's forgotten more than I'll ever learn!) but it seems like a mistake not to rake back that top layer of soil at the very beginning.
Could you say the season when you work on your trees, as for me to know when i have to do also. Thank you
do you have any update for this one sir? you have a nice garden spot btw..
Do you have this bonsai finished now ? For us to see the upgrade?
Is the guidance to leave the roots at this point? I kept waiting to see how to set up the tree below ground.
Typically speaking you don't want to do any root work if you have cut off this much foliage. Its also just generally speaking not the time of the year that you want to do it. I am surprised he didn't dig down into the put a bit to look at the base of the tree.
Jos keren banget bos 🙏🌟🌟
Could you leave those really long branches of you wanted to? My aesthetic loved the look of those long branches-
When do you repot the tree?
What do you feed it?
Super
What about jin on thin plant? Why not?
Sir juniper plant Best soil mixture for trenig pot pls help

Is this an indoor bonsai?
I see a few people working large junipers of different varieties....is it too early to do so? I was under the impression that we had to wait till late winter.
I'm curious about this as well. lots of potential i've found but worried about the timing!
Why isn't the review I posted for the tree I got from your web site a month ago posted?
👍👌🍎
hi
God is nature and nature is God… keep on going mate…..good job!Your new trees will be awesonenesssss
I ordered... received wrong bonsai tree, Eatern Leaf is the only one who can sell juniper bonsai to California residents. People like brussels nursery in other states can't sell Juniper bonsai to San Diego. Juniper law should be changed in California.
He talks too much than cutting....atsuuup 🤙🏾
