My late brother had a brass bilge pump in his 1952 Chris Craft, hand operated, looked like a bicycle pump. It had a hose off the top, I wonder if it would be considered as a dredge. That was one slick pump. Look into a boat hand operated bilge pump. They are probably made of PVC now.

    Chris,
I watched a video with the batea pan and Dan Hurd. What I have noticed is the batea pan works even faster if you keep the whole thing submerged. I have noticed you often break the surface with your pan. Maybe keep it fully underwater?

    • @VoGusProspecting

I tried that method and for me it's easier to remove the amount of material you want by keeping the rim level with the surface of the water

Hey digger... over past few days I have been watching a number of youtube videos about gold sluicing. Mate, I grew up in South east Queensland and in my teens did panning in the creeks around there and also north east New South wales. Never failed to find color, but not that I could make a living off it. More modern sluicing devices makes me think I should revisit those site and give it a go again with a sluice. Genuine offer for you... when this covid B.S. ends, let's get together and see what we can do.

With record gold prices and new fine gold tech like Devin Gold vortex (VDR) mats there is definitely money to be made. Still a lot of hard work but many benches that used to pay $1-5 an hour can now yield $10-20 or more so that's the start of something I think some people may consider if they like the outdoors and a bit of gold. Plus there is always the chance to find something special!
