Wild Camping | Glen Turret | Loch Turret
This weekend, myself and a few others, including the notorious Funsizedearthling decided to do some wild camping by Loch Turret in Glen Turret! It was a very fun wild camp which involved a host of activities from kayaking to wild swimming to tent reviews. It was a fantastic scottish wild camping trip, with dry weather, mild conditions, light winds, and no midges. Out of all my wild camps, this is up here with the best and I can't wait to meet the gang again.

I'm loving the cook ups Monty. I've been a vegetarian for 39 years now, the last 3 of which as a vegan. Good to see your recipes and such like.
I'm with you on the vestibule terminology. Beyond the vestibule is the drawing room. A vestibule on the far side as well is actually the conservatory, and if there is water view and a tree it could also be the atrium, haha. Kind regards.

Do you cook yourself a belter of a meal as well when camping? I alternate between something straighforward to something that requires effort and a lot of cleaning! But there's sooooo much brilliant vegan stuff out there, never mind vegetarian. Vegan is a big step that I may delve into.
I'm just taking the mickey when it comes to a vestibule, but I think I'm gonna start calling it an atrium when I am in a similar environment!
@@MontyOutdoors Hey Monty, I like to keep it simple when camping, but I think I'm going to be inspired and influenced by your tremendous banquets from now on. If one has an atrium, it is only fitting that one has a banquet like feast to go with it. Kind regards.
Loch Turret is better than I thought it would be for wild camping. Think I’m doing Ben Chonzie for the winter. Might do the two nights like you did. Nice to see Mari out with you. ATB

Fair weather at first but still want the quality and strength, as they used to say measure twice cut once or buy one good tent if you get my meaning 👍
@@Martin-rc4iy A strong 3 man tent is difficult due to the surface area being hit by the winds. I'd look at the Vango Mirage 300, OEX Coyote III, and Naturehike Opalus 300.

@@Martin-rc4iy No problem at all. The Crua is impressive and his thick poles, but the 3 man might be too big and has minor concerns issues compared to the ones I mentioned.

I think getting a camp with Mari would be so much more fun than Paul. Paul seems a good guy but Mari just seems so much fun.

@@MontyOutdoors getting there with work. Just away to start a rotation so management can get some weekends off. I was hopeful to get away on a camp a week on Saturday but just had to take a PCR test so might not get away. I think am fine I just want to play it safe as I work with the public.

... but I love saying vestibule. In a house I'd call it a porch. I just like continuing the argument on what it's called 😂
It might depend upon if one was in a terrace, a mews, a semi detached or completely detached with a boathouse, haha.
I camped at that exact same spot last night. Was very foggy, Nice morning though. Still to have a rake around Divilla and find your wee spot in the woods. lol

See the east side of Loch Drunkie, north of the little dam, there's places you can hammock camp there that's outside the permit area. It's my 1st video mate. Have fun while you're away with the fam, sir!

@@MontyOutdoors I'm camping local only at the moment. I'm lucky to have a canal and river near my home so I often kayak camp and sleep in the boat (inflatable) with a tarp.
@@peesua You sleep in the kayak!? Is it a inflatable one? And that's good to hear mate, hope you get a wild one soon. I had a series of panic attacks so will be doing local ones in meantime.
Does it really matter whether you use a Hilliberg or a cheaper backpacking tent. I use a Tamar 2 dome tent it cost me £42 pounds from Amazon- retails normally for £102. I have a four season sleeping bag and sleeping mat from Planet X- my OEX cooking pot and stove is fine and does the same job as a jet boil - I also have a Trangia stove as a back up. I have bought my z mats and tarp/ footprints cheaply on line. No need to go into great expense - I've had some cracking camps out in cheap gear.
I love my tamar 2 , picked it up for a £10 still in the wrapper from a guy who was moving abroad .Ive been in it in heavy rain , down to -3 , its spacious enough for me and my gear and fairly easy to put up .Mines is red but , would prefer the green , ive used it a couple of times in my videos as well .Selling for £50 in go outdoors just now with the 'discount' card !

I can assure you, Terry, not one person from that trip thinks it really matters. I had only used 2 closed cell foam mats, a cheap pillow, a cheap used sleeping bag, and a hi gear backpack for my 2nd night up a munro! I don't spend big, the only thing I spent big on was the JetBoil, and I regret that purchase! Certainly no gear snobs amongst me and my friends.

My first ever kayak mate and I found it to be fine. Actually very easy to put up and put by. There's nothing but great reviews of it online.
Tent without a vestibule is like sex without a partner. It’s not necessary but it’s way better with one

Great video! I'm camping at Turret next week and have done some recconesance of potential pitch spots. Do you mind me asking how you got to that exact location? Was it the East side path round the loch and is fairly walkable?
