Same here, I would have been 13 going on 14... a young drummer obsessed with Travis Barker, and also big into skateboarding which was absolutely booming at the time. What an amazing time to be a teenager. I remember sneaking off to the electronics department at our local Zellers (Canadian department store), finding a lone copy of the newly released Take of your Pants and Jacket, seeing the parental advisory label on it, and nervously bringing it up to the cashier... only for her to not even glance at it and scan it through. I was ecstatic. I scored the new Blink album without my mom even knowing.
Compared to Blink's other live videos, you would see they clearly play with a ton of energy live. Most of the time they would be going crazy on stage and barely playing their instruments lol. But this time they wanted to play solid which meant concentrating more on serving the song for the Letterman show rather than going ham like they always do.

by far, hands down my favorite of all Travis' drum sets. He's the reason I started playing drums when this album came out, and this kit is why i love having so many cymbals lol

@@atvena nah self titled is still pretty authentic imo. It’s also the most interesting they ever were sonically. And yeah they were kinda playing into what was popular at the time but they also had a huge hand in defining it. I love that record to death lol. I think Enema is their biggest “sellout” record. I remember Tom more or less saying that All The Small Things was written as an attempt to create the most vapid pop song Blink could manage. It’s a great record, but I think they were definitely trying to be as huge as possible with it.
Always been a Blink fan and super stoked about the reunion! I have watched a few performances, since their triumphant return and it kinda seems like Tom might have to shake off some cobwebs… But, it’s been pretty good so far!
I used to wear the long Dickies brand shorts because of Blink. I thought I was super cool. Now all I can think about is how much I looked like Bobby Hill…Which is still pretty cool.
I was 2 years ahead of these guys but my band jammed with them before they were a band. Oh those were the days. We skating and doing freestyle bike riding and surfing but I don't think Mark and Tommy ever surfed with us. We got together and rocked. I played drums and guitar back then. I wish I knew they were going to become famous. I would have asked to play drums but I ended up at the USAF Academy and flew fighters
Same 😆 Everyone was using and wanted an OCDP set back then. Now the OCDP website redirects to a spam page lol. Only thing holding them together was Travis and based on the Edging video he's switched to DW.
@@mapex311 I used to spend hours on the OCDP site scoping out different kits. Looking at the product list and piecing together my dream kit in a sparkle finish... only to add up the price at the end and be in utter realization that I would never have an OCDP kit.

They're actually really disliked by a lot of people in the punk community - same as Greenday. The Offspring were/are mainstream punk rock but they kind of got away from being hated by punks.
I think it's turned around a bit - a lot more love for blink now in the community as kids who grew up listening to them started their own bands. Super influential. Definitely way more interest for a new Blink release/tour than there is for new Green Day (or The Offspring... yikes)
Yeah that's probably true to some extent to every band with some punk rock origins that become super famous. Hell it's probably true of a lot of metal bands too like Metallica.

Actually the original lineup was Scott Raynor on drums. Travis replaced him in late 98. But he was still in the band for 6 years.
