Everyone else - the government, the common soldier and the non-german speaking parts of the country - not so much.

I like how there was actually proof throughout the series pointing to the shadow gut being the roman empire. We saw Greece being taken, and probably Spain and France. All 3 of those country had some of their modern day borders as part of the roman empire. We can tell from its size that it must be big, like the roman empire. And guess who is on their side early on? Yep, Italy. The country most associated with the Romans.
