Love your videos man. Also your demeanor and calmness. I'm a returning player and I used to be really good with fighter(class I started with) I've tried all other classes out but I've gotten worse with sword and board as a result. Watching the videos you put out inspire me to get back into the training of blocking and winning my fights more. Also the morningstar is wonderful! Thanks for all the work you are putting into this game. I'll be keeping an eye out for any new releases!

Blinn the hero the fighters guild needs. been running victory strike instead of sprint and a longbow with weapon mastery lately, unless they add 10 MS to sprint ;)
looks like Sprint just got some tweaks? VS is definitely on my list to try out soon.. :)

About the PVP fight 4, what would you have done differently if he closed the door behind him? Would this fight be on his side completely or is there a strat you can think of that could've worked then?
hmmm good question! if that door was closed, I would have been in big trouble.. he had already taken ~50% of my health with those two longsword attacks, and I would have been stuck in a dead-end. the only slight advantage I can imagine is if I stayed in that hallway, maybe his swinging longsword attacks (attacks 2 & 3 in the combo) might have hit the walls and I could do some damage in return. hard to imagine how it could have gone, but being aware of your environment and knowing how to use walls/the environment to disadvantage your opponent can be really helpful! (another e.g. is staying in open doorways if your opponent is using a large 2-hander, since their swings can hit the crossbeam). thanks for the comment!!
I was wondering if you ever thought to use adrenaline spike as the fourth perk? It seems like it would help in the fights when you got lower on health. Especially since sword mastery doesn’t do anything for the mace.
hmmmm an excellent suggestion! I never considered it before.. mostly because I was stuck on the personal debate between Sprint & Adrenaline Rush (ultimately picking Sprint). BUT having Adrenaline Spike as the 4th perk is really really interesting.. since you're totally right the mace doesn't benefit at all from Sword Mastery. Thanks for the tip, friend!!
Love the comments on mindfulness and maturing as player. I always struggle when playing hard games for the first with getting my nerves in check. Definitely gonna run some sword and board

@@YourBoyBlinn a barb! Got him cornered and he panicked when he couldn’t bust through the shield with his legendary horseman’s.Finished him off with throwing axes. Couldn’t have done it without getting the confidence and tips from the vids haha

I agree with most of your points on the longsword fight where he died to the crossbow. Though I do notice that a lot of the LS players your go against don't really use spacing and the range of their first swing poke to their advantage. The reach advantage they have on you is not insignificant but most get to preoccupied with getting up close so you can swing at them. I'd honestly LOVE to see you fight someone with a longsword who's just as patient as you are with their attacks and blocking. It would be a very good fight.
Btw love the videos keep up the great work. I've been playing this game for a long time and I have to say the info and breakdowns you give are a very nice. Highly enjoyed.

and yes, coming up against an equally patient LS fighter is nerve-wracking, but I find if they are being passing and waiting for my attack, the mace drag (aiming off left to start) is highly effective. especially if I'm able to hit them once or twice, and then they have to double-down into their parry, which only plays to my advantage >:)

I saw a cleric doing a really simple and effective tech in trios. The cleric used an invisibility pot to hide by an open door. His team bated the enemies to buff their barb/fighter/front-line cleric and send him in. The cleric then pops out of invis to shut the door, shutting the other 2 teammates out. The team then descends on the lone front-liner on a 3 v 1. Blinn fighter has 15 knowledge base and therefore can use invis pots.
oh snap! I've been closing doors on players in solo to prevent phantomize from getting away etc.. but the invis to door trap is brilliant! and yay base fighter has 15 brain points :)
I’ve been running maces for the armor pen, apparently it applies to lantern shield reposte! Has a similar attack pattern to arming sword always scoring head shots as well. Something to try out if arming sword feels too weak. Do you think that’s a mistake? Curious on how you feel about them. Great vid as always!
WAIT. so the mace's armor pen is applied to the lantern shield riposte because you technically have the 'mace equipped' when attacking with the shield?? oooo that's interesting.... thanks for the tip!!
I am a very new player and trying to improve i m looking up a lot of info about the game. I went through quite a bit of media related to it - discord, reddit, youtube (obviously :P) and one thing about your channel sticks out to me - yours videos are so very chill and "pleasant" to watch, there is not a single trace of the toxicity or frustration that is lowkey leaking from all the others things i ve seen so far. Just to note, i m not saying that "all the others" are bad or toxic or whatever, might have been my bad luck. Anyways, keep it up man, might even convince me to try shield instead of longsword ;)

I think the darkness is actually brilliant with shield fighter in particular, since it makes it much much harder for the enemy to see exactly where you're blocking and aim around it. They can't read your block, so oftentimes they'll default to the chest in hopes that you aren't actually blocking there, especially since they also can't precisely see where your feet and legs are.
I appreciate the use of the maces. I think they're highly underrated weapons, the armor penetration makes them hit really hard if you can space your opponent properly and hit with your sweet spot. Morningstar is my favorite because of its longer range and higher damage per hit.
Have you tried out the Lantern Shield? It's poor for pure blocking but the riposte is very useful when someone's up in your face and you need to get rid of them quickly.
great comment!! glad you can see the value of playing from/in the dark as it relates to a shield fighter in particular. I keep bouncing between flanged mace and morning star as I try to figure out which one I ultimately prefer. I'm thinking morning star because it has the added bonus of staggering shields if/when I'm fighting another fighter or shield-using opponent.
as for the lantern shield, I've given it a few goes, but the block coverage is not what I'm used to and I feel it has more limited utility in pushing ranged/casting classes (which is partly what I rely on the heater to help me with). still lots of time to experiment with that this season! good luck out there!!

for the last fight, I'm pretty sure the issue with blocking the spear is that if the very first frame of the spear's hitbot makes contact with your hurtbox, it will hit regardless if it also hits your shield hitbox, so as long as you're upclose, it will ''phase through'' your shield
yeah, I don't have a technical understanding of hitboxes, but I definitely feel like some kind of phasing effect is there when I'm too close. just some encouragement to not rely on blocking ALL the time, when the spear is one of the easier weapons to dodge (especially if you are 'skin to skin')

the mace helps me punch through heavy armor in melee combat. I've played a lot with the arming sword, and versus plate it just doesn't do that much damage. so I carry a mace to use when I encounter a fighter or cleric, or any other class that has high Physical Damage Reduction (PDR) because they are wearing heavy armor. bonk bonk bonk!! :)
Oh my Longsword is drooling at the idea of people rocking the maces more in the dungeon 😁

Love this style of video, thank you for making! Noob question, how the hell do I get to the crypts? I only have 3 maps, Ice Caverns, Goblin Caves, and Castle Ruins, I tried going down in Castle Ruins and that took me to hell, and I've heard the Ice Caverns has Ice Abyss below it, where is Crypts? Have I just never found the way down from Goblin Caves?

yeah, the naming convention has changed a bit over the months, but essentially Crypts = the Castle Ruins. "Ruins" used to be a more open kindof outdoor map that would lead down to Crypts, but it seems they've swapped the names a bit this wipe. so don't worry, you're not missing anything!! :) good luck!
Nice fights, I like these breakdowns and analyses! Have you tried the War Hammer out at all? I somehow managed to clutch a 1v3 against a team with it since it seems to do a lot of hit slow on anything you can land a hit on, I managed to defeat a warlock in demon form because they tried to flee but couldn't outrun me despite me being in plate. That said I still don't really enjoy how slow it swings though lmao
haha nice work!! I haven't fallen in love with the war hammer yet, only because of its desperately short range.. I also tend to prefer weapons that swing down on my opponents, but I didn't know about the massive hit-slow affect.. interesting & thanks for sharing that tip!!

Falchions first swing is slow and horizontal, which is easier to avoid than arming swords cross attack
thanks for the comment, appreciate you! weapon choice really comes down to personal preference and what each individual feels most comfortable with. the falchion for me has always felt too sluggish for my tastes, plus I don't like how the first attack is wide to the right (i'd often clip the walls in a close-quarters PvP fight).
arming sword has a fast baseline attack speed, and is even faster out of the counter-attack. I rarely take Morning Star but every time I do I'm so happy with it. I really like the move set. It super sucks it requires weapon mastery.
totally agree. was sleeping on the morning star for a while and when I picked it up again I realized I love the attack pattern. the real value IMO is the impact power, since it makes fighting (and staggering) other shields really fun. weapon master is maybe a small price to pay for that, and also it lets me run a recurve bow, which has become my preferred ranged weap over the crossbow!
@@YourBoyBlinn I feel like I suck too much at aiming to warrant the recurve. I'd rather point blank crossbow shot then get back to fighting. Ammo takes less space as well. Every time I pull out a bow that's always lead to me dying lol

For fighter I know you’re using the mace but is the flanged mace better than the falchion? Or preference between those two?
I personally don't like the 1st swing in the falchion combo.. always had a tendency for me to hit the wall in close-quarters combat. plus not sure if the falchion has armor pen? in any case, it's mostly an attack pattern preference, definitely run the falchion if that feels good to you!

yes bonking off the counter-attack makes it super quick for high dmg output! even without the counter-attack, stacking dex really helps the swing speed.

Makes sense that you're a chiv player. Were you ever into Mount and Blade multiplayer? Warband had crazy high skill ceiling melee combat.
sadly I missed the boat on the older versions of M&B, but I did play the crap out of banner lord single player. from what I read online, it sounded like the multiplayer melee combat was slightly more cheese than skill -- but the game itself was stunningly gorgeous!!
That hits close to home, using with only a long sword a shield player is even more troubling than a ranged player is a shield player
