I love when idiots say that these things would never work in a real fight. It wouldn’t guarantee victory, but it would certainly not be a disadvantage to have that much control over your own body, weapons and random equipment.
Jackie has been in a street brawl alongside his Peking opera brothers against a bunch of biker gangs. They won the fight after half a minute or so, and Jackie came home w/ somebody's tooth stuck in his fist.
The key is knowing what these moves, contained inside the form, are. A LOT of this looks like some sort of fancy strike, but in reality, they are tools to unbalance, trip, sweep, reap and throw. Some of them are not techniques at all, but exercises and body mechanics training to develop the ability to do the moves correctly.
Against a untrained individual in a street fight yes, against another martial artist in the streets will depend a number of factors so I agree ☝️ with you
...and yet people will insist that Chan Sifu "isn't a real martial artist"... I get that he's humble enough to admit he's no master, but the only reason he can play with the techniques the way he does is because he's well-versed in them. Peace.
Action movie legend but he is in no way a Sifu. He's dabbled in several styles as was expected of Peking Opera students, Jackie studied Hapkido and Pak Mei on a more serious level. His Pak Mei form in Dragon Lord and on the Muk Jong in Rumble In The Bronx is v good. It takes training to the degree of someone like Lau Kar Leung to be considered a Sifu.
I don't know martial arts, but when I'm in an aisle at the grocery store I mimic jackie chan in the can isle or lift patoto bags🤣🤣🤣 doing dumb fancy moves, thank you jackie
This style of kung fu may seem that you are just dancing but to martial artist this martial art is to make your body flexible and use your body as weapon
This only i can described as FULL strength athleticism, combined at an art state, plus the stamina and energy, experienced into those katas, are just unique, either flowing with the right/selected music, is just magical! He is THE ONE no doubt!
It's a hair clip that holds his cue (hair braid) at the time period of this movie, adult men were required to never cut their hair and braid it into a "cue". Failure to do so would get you executed.
1:23 is the opening (non US cut) to Half a Loaf of Kung Fu. 8:44 when he’s wearing black is from Shaolin Wooden Men. The clip before that with the bo is from Snake in the Eagles Shadow.

Oh...I don't know about that...even though it would be against his characteristic happy go lucky persona, anyone with that many years of discipline, training, skill, strength, knowledge, & experience could become quite deadly in defense of himself or others. I for one, wouldn't want to test that theory. I like living.
Hahaha, Jackie Chan’s best classic films use 70s Italo disco for the form scenes... just look at Snake in the Eagles Shadow. I don’t think there could be more fitting electronic music. Would you rather me use rave music? Dubstep? I ain’t gonna put traditional Chinese orchestral stuff that’s not fun for me to edit too. Some of these songs are from these actual movies.
It'd be better if the original sound effects (like fist movements, clothes sounds and weapon noises) were included in the video instead of some random music. Discourages me to keep on watching when I can't hear the original sound.
I made the compilation that I wanted to see, if you rip the entire JC collection in 2k then you can make your own version. I like making music videos. Besides, half these clips have music burned over them from the movie scene, the audio was all messy.
