Used to love his channel. Happened to comment there not long ago. I mentioned how I used to enjoy it when all his videos weren't just him being miserable. He and a couple of his fans blew up on me. He instantly threatened to ban me. Seems like he got bullied pretty bad at some point in his life. Bummer.
Used to follow his channel a couple of years back, not even interested in toys but always fun to listen to people who obsessively geek out about something. I was very surprised to see the amount of drama (not only on his channel) that grown up toy collectors get drawn into, from pro/con regarding star wars repros to Hasbro releases being subpar/too expensive - I came to the conclusion, life is to short to spend listening to grown ups creating drama about toys.
I have a bit of a short history with Michael. Some of this will be direct quotes from my comments and his, so it may be a little long. I don't have all of them because he took some of them down and he ghosted me from his comments and chat cause I agreed with people calling him out. Here is a comment I posted on his Indy 5 review: "Say what you will about Crystal Skull, Michael (I enjoyed it for what it was), at least Indy still felt like Indy and the ending when he takes his hat back from his son was gold. Also, I never had a problem with the idea of aliens being in the Indiana Jones universe. If you're going to have an ark that melts your face, or the fountain of youth, you might as well have aliens in there at that point. The filmmakers at least tried to make it fit within the universe. It's also not like there haven't been theories about aliens helping to build our civilization or being worshipped as gods. You could've easily called Crystal Skull "Indiana Jones and The Chariots of The Gods" (a little nod to Erich von Däniken's novel and claims). I also give the film leeway because I've always been interested in Von Daniken's claims, primarily since I first got into the Stargate franchise (which also dealt with a crystal skull in one episode)." As you can see, it reads like a fair and respectful comment. However, Mikey-boy didn't see it that way. Here's what he replied with: "I spend four hours focused on Dial, defend Indy 4 multiple times in this video, and THIS is your comment? You need to check yourself, pal." Pretty harsh, wouldn't you say? Now, admittedly, I didn't finish his video before posting the comment, but still, he didn't need to be so hostile over it. Honestly, it would've been better if he didn't say anything at all. I was a man, though (more of a man than he'll ever be) and mentioned how I commented too early and didn't mean any disrespect. A few months later, he posted his "review" of Neon Genesis Evangelion. All it was was just a name-calling session and criticizing the creator of the anime, and its fans, as being narcissists and creeps. Kinda hypocritical of Michael calling other people narcissists when he's been one of the most narcissistic people I've ever seen on this platform. I did manage to save a session of comments from the video before he took them down that consists of people calling him out: "@BloodyRobot-kh7cv 16 hours ago (edited) This is the worst EVA review I've ever seen in my life. Well said and good on you for doing the video. A lot of other people have been saying the same. Count me as one too. Being called out for doing something wrong happens to us all. Personally I am glad when someone does this with me. As this is usually caused by stress and is able to sort out what has been happening. With this your one voice among a sea of support he has. So an apology is never coming forth. Also I think he did have a financial link. That with being a paying customer who paid up front and in full. So until the product was delivered. He had the right to updates or even demand information. And from what I see he didn't. With him given Conrad a pretty easy run. While with Chris Krahn of The Fans Strike Back. It is a completely different situation. I have lost count of the amount of videos. So great video and thank you for reading this comment.
I've followed RetroBlasting for many years now, and for the most part, I enjoy his reviews. I may not agree with all of them, but he speaks his mind, and I respect that. However, it's clear that he has a massive ego. Or, at the very least, he has a tendency to speak with a very "holier-than-thou" attitude. Everything he says is "gospel truth" in his eyes, and if you disagree with him, well, you're either wrong or an idiot, or both. I agree that he should swallow his pride, admit he was wrong, and apologize to his fans for misleading them, inadvertently or otherwise.
Very thoughtfully put. Ego is a difficult thing to overcome, especially online. However, it is important for growth. My hope is that he can apologize and move forward.

The general negativity on his channel has been growing for a few years. Its something he has even addressed in some of his videos. I'm interested in his toy videos not a constant barrage of negative commentary. Hopefully he will turn it around because I think what you said about him losing subscribers will come true.... if it hasn't started already.

But especially in these last like 4 years or so That French Guy Flips out always seems miserable , is a Chat Stream Natzi type too , pardon the term. I was in the Indy 5 Discussion along the chat stream on that movies review on that Chanell Retro blasting every chatter was either praising Mike and such Or they were puzzled sounding asking why Mike seems miserable etc and then seeing live these chatters get booted off the chat and stream over and over ones more too. He does not seem to handle criticism of any kind very well. His comments sections are highly moderated to remove the majority of comments that disagree with him. It is my opinion that no one can be right all the time and that a healthy amount of constructive criticism is reasonable.

Its better than the 100 other videos that just cry about how everything is woke and everything is terrible. For a channel about "toys" and "collecting" there are an insane amount of everything is woke, Star Wars is woke, woke, woke, woke videos and, always seems to have a "stopped production on a new video" excuse. I guess its not shocking since alot of channels have started to figure out that if you make negative videos or everything is woke and terrible videos they do better than "retrospective" videos.

He believed we were going to get our toys. Even though the guy who used to own the company warned everyone (including Retroblasting) that he mistakenly sold his company to someone who turned it into a scam. Michael French has proven himself to be either incredibly gullible, or he was benefiting in some way by ignoring very valid news tips. Either way - the guy lost all of his authenticity and audience good will. Sucks to suck.
I hope not! I will say that the clips used in this video are transformative in nature and do work as a substitution for the original work. Therefore it falls under the umbrella of fair use. Thanks for watching :)

Trying to draw in the people who obsess over content attacking RetroBlasting? Make no mistake, they'll flock to this video. They'll comment on this and share it within their circle of friends. They'll crap on Michael in the comments. They're already doing it. People accused Michael of being a paid advertiser of this product. He wasn't. People blamed him because they chose to invest in something. People with credit cards are adults who are responsible for their own decisions. People claimed that he was the reason this project funded. It funded before he placed his order and before he made his video. In the months following, people didn't like that he didn't make the kind of follow-up video they wanted when they wanted him to make them. He isn't on the payroll of other preorder customers, so they can't dictate when and how he responds. Michael got burned by this like many others. Yet people continue misdirect their anger at him rather than pursuing the real criminal, Conrad Murphy.
At 2:53 into your video you state that Michael French/Retroblasting "endorsed" the kickstarter. Yet at 3:17 you state that he bought the kit in an offering after the kickstarter had funded. In less than a half of a minute you contradict yourself. If I understand correctly, that would mean the kickstarter was successfully funded, and Mars INC was offering preorders after the kickstarter. If this is true, there is a big difference in expectations between an active kickstarter project and a preorder. Misleading people about said expectations for any preorders is solely the responsibility of Mars Inc. Choosing to fund a kickstarter is always a risk at best. Offering a preorder implies production is ready to go ahead and a safer bet to customers. There is a big difference between the two. You imply RT tried to influence viewers into participating in the Kickstarter, yet you downplay that RT stated he bought into the preorder only. That is misleading. At 9:48 you say you have no idea who RT describes as the "Canadian Warrior Poet". Then the 11:00 mark you admit you watched a re-upload of said Canadian Warrior Poet's video. You honestley can not figure out who CWP is? Really? Why is that? The reason why RT mentions CWP is to show the bias of critics of RT. Critics of RT demand that RT take responsibility for people being empty handed after choosing to give Mars Inc money. Yet CWP can also profile the Airwolf kit but is immune from any responsibility by the critics of RT. Plus he didn't even buy ino it . And you failed to mention why you had to watch a re-upload of CWP's video. He took it down after it was clear Mars Inc was never going to fulfill the orders of the Airwolf kit. RT has been transparent. CWP has been hiding his tracks. There is a clear difference between the two. Yet you only demand an apology only from RT. Why?
@trentrolfingsmeier Hello thank you for leaving your concerns and questions in the comments section. When I say that RB endorsed the product I do not mean that he was paid to say nice things. I genuinely believe he thought that the product was nice and the final would turn out well. He did however endorse the product by giving the prototype a positive review and posting a video about it on his channel. He is a respected toy reviewer and his opinion carries a lot of weight within his community. So when a product does not hold up to expectations it reflects poorly on him even if his is not tied directly to the company. The re-upload of CWPs video also uses the nick name. I have the link to that video in the description if you would like to watch. This man may own his audience and apology too which I covered in the video. This is a straw man argument by RB which is why I brought it up in the video. Hopefully this answers your questions and I wish you the best :)

Misleading people about said expectations for any preorders is solely the responsibility of Mars Inc. Choosing to fund a kickstarter is always a risk at best. Offering a preorder implies production is ready to go ahead and a safer bet to customers. There is a big difference between the two. You imply RT tried to influence viewers into participating in the Kickstarter, yet you downplay that RT stated he bought into the preorder only. That is misleading.
At 9:48 you say you have no idea who RT describes as the "Canadian Warrior Poet". Then the 11:00 mark you admit you watched a re-upload of said Canadian Warrior Poet's video. You honestley can not figure out who CWP is? Really? Why is that?
The reason why RT mentions CWP is to show the bias of critics of RT. Critics of RT demand that RT take responsibility for people being empty handed after choosing to give Mars Inc money. Yet CWP can also profile the Airwolf kit but is immune from any responsibility by the critics of RT. Plus he didn't even buy ino it . And you failed to mention why you had to watch a re-upload of CWP's video. He took it down after it was clear Mars Inc was never going to fulfill the orders of the Airwolf kit. RT has been transparent. CWP has been hiding his tracks. There is a clear difference between the two. Yet you only demand an apology only from RT. Why?
@trentrolfingsmeier Hello thank you for leaving your concerns and questions in the comments section. When I say that RB endorsed the product I do not mean that he was paid to say nice things. I genuinely believe he thought that the product was nice and the final would turn out well. He did however endorse the product by giving the prototype a positive review and posting a video about it on his channel. He is a respected toy reviewer and his opinion carries a lot of weight within his community. So when a product does not hold up to expectations it reflects poorly on him even if his is not tied directly to the company.
The re-upload of CWPs video also uses the nick name. I have the link to that video in the description if you would like to watch. This man may own his audience and apology too which I covered in the video. This is a straw man argument by RB which is why I brought it up in the video.
