Little history In the 1990s Marvel filed for bankruptcy so they decided to sell a bunch of character movie rights to different studios with Sony getting the rights to Spider-Man, Fox getting the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, and Universal getting the rights to The Hulk along with a few other studios getting rights to characters like Blade, The Punisher etc. Throughout the 2000s people did try to connect all these movies together from Rami's Spider-Man to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Punisher but it was never confirmed that they existed together. Punishers stunt double showed up in the background in Spider-Man while a cut scene from Fab 4 features Mr. Fantastic changing his face into Wolverine "A Stronger Man" but it never made it into the film.
Once Iron Man came out in 2008 this created the MCU a shared universe of films where everything existed together under one roof created by Marvel Studios which didn't exist before Iron Man. But because Marvel/Disney didn't have the movie rights to certain characters and groups this made it impossible for them to appear in the MCU even though groups like The Fantastic Four and X-Men play a massive part in the Marvel world they simply couldn't be introduced in the MCU.
This was until Disney bought Fox a few years ago which now means that Disney has the rights to X-Men and the Fantastic Four making it possible for these two teams to be introduced in the MCU it's only a matter of when and how they'll be introduced. Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man but Disney and Sony made a deal where they could have Spider-Man i the MCU which explains why there's a whole series of Spider-Man MCU movies. Hulk is still owned by Universal which is the main reason why he hasn't had a sole movie in years but he is allowed to appear in the MCU.
Hope this helps the MCU would've been pretty different if they had the rights to these characters as character like Wolverine could've appeared in Captain America First Avenger or we could've seen the Fantastic Four early on like in the comic's.

      Universal: Owns Hulk movie rights.
Also Universal: Does F all with him.
Me: Interesting plan... You made a film back in '03 that was long as shit, but had some interesting things to say. And in '08, you made another that had a cool concept for a TV show... Sell Hulk, or do something.
All we get of Hulk now, is She-Hulk/Marvel/Disney/Writers shitting on him, this Big green bastard has so much story potential, but we've got nothing.

While it is sad that Coulson leaves the movies it’s not technically the end of his story (kinda) if y’all want to commit to it I highly recommend a tv show that aired from 2013 to 2020 called Agents of Shield, it is 7 seasons but trust me by the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2 it is most definitely worth it

Hawkeye is rather ridiculous ... because "bow & arrows" is pretty useless due to LIMITED AMMO and SPEED of the arrows (in contrast to the speed of the opponents).
The problem with the MCU is that they made everyone "equal power level", which is not how it would really be. CGI isnt reality.

    • @somethingtrulyhorrifying
      @somethingtrulyhorrifying Рік тому +7

Can't believe they compared him to Katniss 😔. Hawkeye is Marvel's greatest marksman, he can't miss...His opponent might be able to evade his arrow by doing something dumb like catching it in mid-air, but he doesn't miss. We're talking about a guy that can curve an arrow into a wall and make it ricochet and hit someone in the back of the neck in a specific spot to only paralyze them. He's the Deadshot of the MCU.
Katniss is impressive but she's no Hawkeye, she's more of a realistic character that more people can relate to in terms of her skills with bow and arrow.

I was waiting for this reaction. The first Avengers movie is definitely one of my favorites. This was such a fun reaction! I absolutely love how adorable both your reactions are throughout the video. I especially love the laughter as well 😂 From what I read, this movie took inspiration from the original Avengers comic where Loki was also the big villain of the story as well as from the Ultimate universes comic where the story was a reboot of sorts of how the Avengers met and instead of fighting Loki they fought invading aliens. So they basically combined the stories together which I think worked really well. Also the circle shot of all the members together is definitely such an iconic scene and it still gets me hyped every time I see it!
This was such a fantastic reaction to this movie and probably my favorite of you and Calebs so far! Thanks so much for this Meg and I can't wait for you and Caleb to now start Phase 2 of your MCU journey!

I had tears in my eyes when I saw this movie for the first time. I read the storyline Phase 1, 2 & 3 is based on, real time, when it first came out all those years ago in the comics, when I used to collect them. 17 yr old me inside, seeing those characters done right, up on the big screen, knew it was just perfection. It was 20+ years in the making.
Marvel really stepped up and delivered on this series.

Mental that this was 10 years ago 2012 was an amazing year for gaming and movies. At this time we also had the amazing Earth's Mightiest hero's TV show that was pretty much the Avengers before the Avengers movie only difference is the show featured more of the original line-up such as Antman and Wasp who don't show up in this film. The show also existed in a world alongside X-Men, Fantastic Four etc so it was much closer to the comic's in these regards while the MCU at the time in 2012 couldn't introduce these teams as Fox owned the movie rights. Overall amazing time to be a Marvel fan this film single handily brought the Avengers to the more Mainstream audience while also keeping it fairly comic accurate minus the events of course which are solely created for the MCU but were inspired by the comic's as Loki pretty much was the reason why the Avengers came together in the comic's.
The original Avengers line-up was Iron Man, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor and the Wasp. Captain America was found later after the Avengers were formed while Black Widow and Hawkeye had a complex story where they were actually introduced as villain. The MCU pretty much draws from the mainline Earth-616 from the comic's and the Ultimate universe which was an updated reimagine of the Marvel universe bringing it into the 2000s starting with Ultimate Spider-Man. It's takes the best elements from both and creates it's own universe but mostly draws from Earth-616 in terms of events.

Hey, Meg and Caleb! "Avengers" was a game-changer and the proof of concept of Feige's grand plan! Team movies weren't anything new as we had already seen the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Mystery Men, Watchmen and the Incredibles in action by this point but a multi-franchise crossover event hadn't been done since the Universal horror cycle of the '40's and, certainly, not on a scale this immense! This movie is the very definition of a thrilling Hollywood blockbuster and it shattered every record! Who knew we were only being teed up for something even bigger?
Marvel Comics assembled "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" in September 1963, the same month the X-Men debuted and two years after the Fantastic Four. Whereas the other groups were privately financed and comprised of members who were linked by blood or genes, the Avengers were a more motley crew subject to government oversight. Their headquarters was a mansion gifted to the team by Tony Stark located on 890 Fifth Avenue in New York City nestled on the eastern edge of Central Park complete with a butler named Jarvis to attend their needs. As in the movie, the team would travel around the globe in sleek compact planes called Quinjets. The five founding members were Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk. The team found Captain America in the ice and thawed him out in the fourth issue. He was granted honorary founding status and has been with the group through almost every incarnation often leading as Chairman. As in the film, it was Loki's mischief that brought the heroes together whereupon they decided they should gather regularly to tackle any situation that was too much for any one them alone. Borrowing again from Marvel's alternate universe, the 1610 Ultimate Universe, the Chitauri are introduced as Loki's invasion force in the film since the Ultimate-equivalent of the Avengers united for the first time to battle that species. Credit goes to the Wasp's Janet van Dyne for coming up with their name, the Avengers. Over the years, the roster would rotate frequently as a diverse group of beings filled the ranks of the organization including humans, superhumans, mutants, inhumans, atlanteans, eternals, sorcerers, androids, aliens, demi-gods and deities. The team's battle cry was simple: "Avengers Assemble!"
Joss Whedon was an ideal choice for director. Having cut his teeth on "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly", he understood how to ground fantasy and sci-fi with clashing team dynamics. As a comic book enthusiast and writer, he was well-versed with the Marvel sandbox and this movie hums under his sure hand.
As this is a team movie, the cast is a bunch of familiar faces with a couple of new additions and everybody gets their moment to shine. Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, Paul Bettany as JARVIS and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow carry over from the "Iron Man" films. Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson aka Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki Laufeyson aka Loki, Stellan Skarsgard as Dr. Erik Selvig and Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye carry over from "Thor". Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America carries over from "The First Avenger". Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson and Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell return as the faces of SHIELD with new addition Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, right-hand woman to Fury. Mark Ruffalo replaces Edward Norton as Bruce Banner aka Hulk but Lou Ferrigno remains on hand as the voice of Hulk. Powers Boothe and Jenny Agutter play World Security Council members who carry over into "Agents of SHIELD" as Gideon Malick and "Winter Soldier" as Hawley, respectively. Whedon alum Alexis Denisof plays the Chitauri spokesman known as The Other in heavy prosthetics who appears again in "Guardians of the Galaxy". New York character actor Robert Clohessy has a funny bit as an NYPD Sergeant who questions Cap's credentials, old pro Harry Dean Stanton has a wry bit as a custodian who witnesses the Hulk's transformation and Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie in "The Last of Us", shows up as Beth, a grateful waitress.
    TRIVIA:
    1. Harry Dean Stanton was famously killed by the xenomorph in "Alien" so, when he asks a naked Bruce Banner if he's an alien, it's a tongue-in-cheek nod to his former role.
    2. RDJ ad-libbed a lot of dialogue including the faux-Shakespeare routine with Thor, the "Galaga" quip on the bridge, the shawarma comment when he's revived and the character nicknames like Legolas for Hawkeye.
    3. Mark Ruffalo ad-libbed the roar that awakens Tony from unconsciousness after he falls back to Earth.
    4. Chitauri is Zulu for 'serpent race from the sky'.
    5. Jeremy Renner was trained by Olympic archers in the use of his bow.
    6. Shawarma sales skyrocketed after this movie!
    EASTER EGGS:
    1. Loki's body temperature registers as blue on the infrared monitor trained on his cell because of his Frost-Giant physiology.
    2. Odin's pet ravens Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory) fly past Thor and Loki on the outcrop after Loki is taken from the Quinjet.
    3. One of the trading cards in Coulson's collectible set features the cover of "Captain America" # 1 which illustrates Cap socking Hitler on the jaw.
    4. The mind-controlling Chitauri scepter makes its first appearance in the saga and is the second alien artifact of power to affect our heroes after the space-spanning Tesseract.
    CAMEO:
    1. Stan Lee appears in a cameo as a chess-playing senior citizen who expresses disbelief about superheroes being active in New York.
    END-CREDIT SCENES:
    1. The Other reports the Chitauri defeat to Thanos who smiles at the prospect of 'courting death'. This is Thanos' first appearance in the saga. His smile is a reference to his comic counterpart who actually is in love with the personification of Death.
    2. The exhausted team gorges themselves on shawarma post-battle having taken Tony up on his suggestion.
The next chronological stop in the MCU is the ONE-SHOT featurette called "ITEM 47" about Chitauri tech falling into the wrong hands. It is found on the "Iron Man 3" blu-ray or on DPlus.
Don't forget to watch it or the AGENT CARTER ONE-SHOT which took place after "Captain America: The First Avenger".
If you want to see "AGENT CARTER", the first 8-episode season is EXCEPTIONAL, occurs before the One-Shot and can be seen after "Avengers" as an interlude between phases.
If you want to see "AGENTS OF SHIELD", episodes 1-7 are seen after "Iron Man 3", episodes 8-16 are seen after "Thor: The Dark World" and episodes 17-22 are seen after "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".

I think you probably misunderstood Odin and his feelings/attitude towards Loki from the first Thor movie.
Loki was abandoned by Laufey for being small, so Odin took him in to raise him and he hoped for an alliance/peace with the frost giants in the future through Loki.
When Loki yells out to him at the end "I could have done it, Father! For you!" here he's obviously talking about how he killed the leader of the frost giants in his manufactured rescue of Odin when he was going to be assassinated, and how he was going to destroy the frost giants' home world in Odin's honor. When Odin says "No, Loki." he's telling him that this isn't what he wanted, that he never wanted Loki to go to such extreme lengths for his approval.
Odin isn't the most emotional person and yeah maybe he should have told Loki about his origins sooner, but a lot of Loki's anger comes from his own preconceived notions that he was never loved or cared for when it's very clear that Thor and their mother, Frigga, are much more expressive that he was always a member of their family.

    • @Alewaxon
      @Alewaxon 2 роки тому +3

Yeah I agree; a lot of people like to exaggerate, demonize or twist a lot of Odin's actions in order to make him look worse and in turn Loki's action shine by comparison, or at the very least Loki won't look as bad for what he does and releases him from the responsibility of his actions.
Odin certainly made mistakes as a father, as we've seen and will continue to see... But this idea that paints Odin as intentionally abusive towards Loki it's just crazy, some fans, specially of Loki, try to paint the picture that Odin set himself up from the beginning to hurt Loki intentionally and that Loki had a terrible and abusive upbringing, and that's just not true... Like you said, a lot of Loki's feelings of jealousy, anger, etc. are self inflicted or self appointed by his own personality traits; Thor always loved him like a brother and whatever 'fights' he had with Loki it was standard sibling rivalry; Thor's friends don't like him because Loki is a bit of an asshole and has done shit to them, in their eyes Loki was a prince and part of the royal family, it was Loki's actions growing up that made them dislike Loki; Odin and Frigga treated Loki as a son and loved him, there are no tales of Odin abusing or mistreating Loki and when it comes to the issue of which one of the kids would become king, even putting aside the fact of Loki's lineage, Thor is the older sibling and therefor first in line to get the throne, Loki knew that from early on as he also knew that Thor's growing power levels would put him in a better position to be a powerful king, those things feed Loki's jealousy and anger and that's on him.
Odin's mistakes over the not telling Loki about his true origins were not done with ill intentions, that doesn't change the damage that information can do, but it is something to keep in mind... It is also important to keep in mind that most of Loki's bad feelings towards his family or his situations are there BEFORE he ever learns about who and what he is, so like I said those feelings are on him and don't actually come from external information... Also, a lot of the mistakes in parenting about not informing Loki (which BTW doesn't guarantee that he would take that information well or better or that it would've made things automatically better), are not just on Odin; Odin gets the bulk of the hate but Frigga it's just as "guilty" as him of keeping this information from Loki and she doesn't get as much shit, somehow people understand Frigga's intentions in protecting Loki or making a mistake but with good intentions but in turn Odin's actions are all bad all the time.

This movie was so important to cinema and superhero movies. Before this was had the Fox X-Men films, which were hit and miss but their biggest issue being ensemble films is that they still managed to put focus on once character...Wolverine (and then later on Mystique). So you always had that feeling of them being more like Wolverine and Friends, rather than full on X-Men films. So this movie was really tasked with bringing together and ensemble cast and not feeling like it focus on just one person but that everyone got ample screen time (though there was some minor criticism for Hawkeye which is rectified in Age of Ultron). And they did it...but not only did they pull that off this was easily one of the bets superhero films ever made.

I will likely comment again ... but I wanted to get a quick one in. The intro, especially as y'all went off topic about Caleb's search for coins was freakin hilarious. I couldn't help but to burst out laughing as Meg was realizing it was little Caleb scrounging for loose change ... but college Caleb. That was too funny.

The villain in the very first Avengers' comic book was... Loki. It only made sense. That said in that issue they were Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, and The Wasp. Captain America joined in the 5th issue.

I hope you continue to watch these Marvel movies together, as your conversations and interactions are a big part of the enjoyment.
I did a search of your channel to see great movies outside Marvel that you haven't reacted to, but which you might react to later, if you haven't seen them already.
The many X-Men movies, which started in 2000, are great, as is "The Matrix", from 1999.
But, I'd recommend you not watch any Matrix sequel, as the second one is so bad that I wish I could unsee it.
In a totally different genre, I'd recommend "Forrest Gump" (1993) and "It's a Wonderful Life" (1947), two deeply meaningful movies that follow the protagonist from childhood well into adulthood.

    • @videoinformer
      @videoinformer 2 роки тому

I should clarify that the "X-Men" movies come from Marvel Comics, but aren't produced by Marvel Studios, and aren't part of the sweeping series of more than 20 "MCU" movies of which "The Avengers" is part.
      It's a different "universe".

Honestly, the hero costumes in this movie were a bit goofy. Mostly Cap, Black Widow and Hawkeye looked out of place. Theyre gonna get better tho.
That being said, Loki in Dark World is probably my favourite depiction of the character and this movie sets the foundation for that. Just dont watch anything Loki related (except one episode of What If) and pretend that Dark World is the last we see of him.

A lot of the best characters Marvel has created have the most horrifically tragic backstories of trauma, but it makes the characters a lot more relateable as humans first, heroes secondly. We know them, because in a lot of ways, they are US. We can see ourselves in them. Everybody from Steve Rogers to Peter Parker to Clint Barton.
