- Starfield boasts over 1,000 planets for players to explore. Bethesda games are known for the mantra "See that mountain? You can climb it." Todd Howard clarified that in Starfield, planet exploration is extensive and unrestricted. Players can land anywhere and traverse entire planets on foot. This was confirmed in the gameplay reveal, where Howard emphasized free choice of landing spots. Bethesda's Pete Hines also affirmed that whole-planet exploration is indeed possible, stating, "Yes, if you're up for it. Go ahead, brave explorer."

the more barren lifeless planets will generally have more valuable resources on them to make visiting them worthwhile... so while there wont be plants/animals.. there might be hostile factions ect that are also there to mine valuable resources ect.
That would be neat. As long as the planets look nice and beautiful i dont mind. Not to mention Bethesda has said that the empty planets are for the modding community to do there thing
There's really only one thing I'm bitter about...not being able to seamlessly land and take off on planets.
That would be nice perhaps they will add it in a near future update.
Well it’s not really a next gen game specially because of Xbox and the mandatory series s support for anything series x and that it’s cross platform. It would be nice if the pc version and or xcloud took advantage of certain configurations to allow this and full planet transversal with vehicles instead of the grid load system.
I feel like the empty planets are going to be where the rarest resources in the game will be found.
And maybe a very few will have some surprise ruins or caves. Makes you wonder because this is Bethesda
@@DanielleinaD.yeah I think empty just means empty of life when we find them meaning it could have robots or could have abandoned outposts
I don't even think lifeless planets will be devoid of life. Wherever there are rare resources, there is always the possibility for a mining station.
You're wandering around a barren planet then, when you crest the hill, you come across an outpost built around a massive drill. You go inside, and the foreman tells you that they're in dire straits because the bit they use for drilling is broken, and they have to wait months for a replacement. Then he asks if you could fetch some iron so they could fabricate a new bit on site.
I think planets outside the Goldilocks zone could still be chock full of cool stuff. Mars is technically an empty planet but it has a whole mining colony. We might even find traces of ancient life or civilization. Possibilities are endless.
I can't wait to get high out of my mind and scrape my face on the planet surface. Just collect all resources orally and regurgitate them in front of Constellation. Then I can take a settler onto the fishing platform and drip fish oil (LSD) into their eyes.
I want a pitch black planet...like the movie
Starfield take: what if the “empty” planets had very secret areas like a hidden cave no one has found because the planets are so big and areas no one has discovered and theirs very secret loot in those areas only a few people will ever find.
You know at some point someones going to drop some kinda xenomorph mod for alot of empty planets
And people are still going to stick their faces near the giant eggs even though they should know better by now.
I hope so too
Not a space sim. its just an arcade space game. There is no joystick support, 30 FPS limit, no landing and takeoff control, no atmo flight, arcade style combat, all which breaks the game. Bethesda always releases with bugs. It is Red Dead in space, not an open sandbox sim. They let the players bug test the game. I will wait and not give them a penny until its correctly reviewed.
Just a heads up, planets are NOT seamlessly explorable! A leaker tonight has tested it. He was on kreet and he walked for about 30 or 40 mins in a single direction until he got a prompt saying "Boundary reached, open map to explore new region or return to ship" then it has the option to fast travel back to your ship or the option to open the planetary map to select a new region of the planet to land in and explore. Basically your ship acts as a giant tether with like a Skyrim sized map area you can explore. Let me be clear, planets ARE fully explorable, you just can't seamlessly walk around the whole planet. You have to load in to the next new region if you want to explore more.
I hope there’s massive cave systems and if not I hope someone mods one. I’m honestly terrified of cave exploration but WHEN gaming it’s an obsession 😅
I feel you there! I would never go cave spelunking. I have to much of a fear that I’ll get lost lol😂
I may be wrong, but I think in the StarField Direct vids it showed a cave location icon being highlighted into the background.
Considering vehicle mods have existed since at least New Vegas there will be mods for planetary rovers within a month, guaranteed.
From what i understand, the algorithm has a list and the procedural generation part is the algorithm going 'what can i put in this spot, based on the conditions ive been given from this list'
I think you're right, procedurally "placed" is probably a good term
What the hell is the difference
@dougr8646 because in the case of like no mans sky, those lists applied to everything in the environment, from plants to animals to their features being slapped together procedurally. from whats understood about Starfield, the things on said lists are hand crafted components
I still wonder if there is a set amount of flora and fauna or is there a procedural process that makes them environment appropriate for every planet that has life.
@@DweezlePeePants well have to see i suppose, im not sure
This seems like the next big forever game
He doesn't know how procedural generation works and how seeds are created.
I can't wait for the modding scene to include so many Sci fi stuff on these planets like Star Wars or Alien or Star Trek etc
0:07: more than you could expect in any other game. *Laughs in Elite Dangerous*
@@swampfoxIX I'm a PC guy so I don't care. lol
Yea but Elite Dangerous sikes which is why nobody is playing it
NMS is far bigger as well
@@MIAPhillytoo bad it's boring to play after 5 minutes
@punani_slayer4209 it still being a thriving game after all this time says otherwise. Sure it's not everyone's cup of tea and that's fine. I'm just pointing out it's bigger than this where the author seems to think starfield is the biggest game ever
The game has endless possibilities for story mods or even official Bethesda expansions. I can see modders making content that takes place on a planet only. Imagine 100hrs in just one single planet
That was the original point of the barren planets.
feel like there might be really rare and hidden stuff in those planets without life that most people are just not gonna explore, and only the people willing to explore those lifeless planets will find lol
unfortunately, the game looks great but no ground vehicles is just... well it sucks.
Doctor Who Mod is going to be lit.
Do people have permanent ADHD where they have to be shooting stuff all the time? I want a walking simulator in this just as much as everything else it has to offer. I can’t wait to just wonder off and explore and see the sunrise/sunset all the different environments! even if there is nothing to pick up or is vaguely useful, I just want to get lost in this game. 10% of life on planets is perfect to me, I don’t want to find animals everywhere I go or danger around every corner. I can’t bloody wait any longer honestly this is my perfect game….
That’s why it should’ve had vehicles so it could’ve been designed where there doesn’t need to be activities and poi around every single corner
Some people like that kind of “dense” (amusement park imo) game design but I hate it because it immediately makes the world feel artificial and like it only exists for the player
A space exploration game where everything is within walking distance of where you land is a bizarre choice and objectively bad for anyone that likes to get immersed in their rpg’s
It has been explained that the side quest mission boards will include missions, that require you to acquire rare minerals. And in order to do this you will need to find a planet, set up an outpost, and extract the mineral. Then set up a trade route/routes and then ship the minerals to other planets/settlements. I think those minerals will most likely be found on those lifeless planets/moons.
Many folks in today's world, are so very much impatient and have very short attention spans. So "walking simulators" in the best of times, is a bitter pill to swallow. But there is something about this game. I can actually see myself wandering around from time to time. Just taking it all in. Starfield may be more of an experience, then just another gaming title.
I bet a modder will create factions on far away planets in caves. will be epic.
I think those barren planets are essential.. Although some WILL use grav jumping as soon as possible for anyone REALLY trying to get the "simulation" feeling it will be GREATNESS..
Just image flying through space for X amount of time just flying pass maybe 20+ empty planets with little objectives like helping people or takinging a npc somewhere as fast as possible.. Having to maybe stop on a planet or two and mine resources for fuel, but then out of nowhere you just a planet TEEMING with life and a large city or settlement..
This games gonna be special especially for a player like me looking for some game but some sim type of feeling.. I can see myself having the type of journey explained and staying on a planet for months or maybe years just living in a city before heading out again...
I can't wait..
That's all I need. Exploration. Let's go!
I feel like the emptiest planets might still have small outposts like mines or secret pirate bases or something.
Even empty planets if done right it will be fun to explore and enjoy a quite moment sunset sunrise build an outpost 🎉 today i upgraded to premium edition I can't wait any longer extremely excited
I’m really excited for Starfield . Looks high quality but I still have an itchy feeling it’s going to move slow have a lot a alone time and cause many people to call it boring like RDR2. I hope the story stays full and action packed for those who want more of a Action RPG
I don't mind having those slow alone times in games there will be times where I might want to get on the game and do nothing but hang out at my outpost or just walk some where without killling stuff.
There are invisible walls in the game and boundaries with loading screens. Good luck chucks.
Enjoy all the walking, nms is doing it better and at least you can fly around while planet or use a robot or land vehicle
Imagine skyrim map on one of the empty planets
Underrated comment. Would be crazy.
I'm a defender of dead planets. Change my mind.
10% of 1000 planets is 100 planets with life and hand crafted content and that’s a lot!
I swear, people are hyping this game out of proportion. For your own sake please stop or you'll just disappoint yourselves.
Just hope the planets won’t be like NMS, with the same elements on every planet (except for the hand-crafted areas). Same kinds of minerals, same animal models, same behaviors. There are only so many species I can discover before I start not to care.
It would’ve been cool if they add off-road buggy and low flight orbit with HOTAS & wheel support. You could get lost for hours driving/flying around those planets.
I want to know what happens when you try to go down to a gas giant. They say we can land on any planet!
I think you're a bit mistaken about how they've described their use of procedural generation...
He is
And that exploration is hindered by invisible walls and a fuck load of loading screens. WOOHOO!!!!! Prepare to go through about six loading screens when you want to go from one part of the map to another. Then multiply that by a dozen or more times to explore other parts of the planet. Then multiply that number by the amount of planets you want to explore. You spend 100 hours in game and half of it is loading screens. This game should be called 'loading screen simulator'. Other games have real planets that are rendered that you can fully walk around. The tech is there. No reason it couldn't be implemented here. I'm sorry, but a 10 minute walk from my ship should not be the end of the explorable area. That is so unbelievably immersion breaking it's not even funny.
900 dead planets is crazy😂
Welcome to reality.
So those ''landing spots'' on planets, how big are they?
No Mans Sky Sky was really big too and got boring pretty fast from planet exploration perspective...
Took it to a "whole notha level"
Has it been confirmed that different games use different seeds for their procedural generation though?
Because if they don’t, everything generated will be the same across games.
but will u get more then 1000 planets if u buy the premium edition
Walking explorer. They have to let you use some sort of transport vehicle while exploring planets. Sucks you cant use your ship.
Your on foot 😂 thats going to be alot of walking.
When modders start makin there own stories for empty planets the possibilities are endless n the amount of time spent playin this game will put skyrim to shame
unlike anything thats not no mans sky
Let the over-hype train continue. The very first sentence in this video isn't true and therefore I don't take anything else in the video as truth. There are other games that have much larger worlds full of exploration. No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous, just to name two, are much bigger. Like everyone else I can't wait for Starfield but I am not going to crown a game with some kind of title when it's no even released yet. I hope it's everything they claim it is, but rarely does the hype match reality.
I see the lifeless planets as a place for mods, where they can go wild without messing with the main story.
Where’s my rover, Todd?
It will be $29.99 on Creation Club.
Has it been confirmed that it will be different for each player? That seems like a weird move and is not necessarily given just because procedural generation is used.
Yep confirmed in the Starfield Direct.
imagine in 50 years the games wouldn't be games anymore
Nah, simulations aren't reality. Reality isn't a simulation.
Doesn't no mans sky have millions of planets
So with over a thousand plans to discover and explore what about gas giants or planets that aren't actually made out of solid mass ,
Well if they are going with realism well certainly not as you would be crushed as soon as you entered the Photosphere not to mention it has obviously been confirmed that there is no atmosphere flying, which is a huge bummer, so if there is no solid surface I wouldn't see there being any possibility of being inside of a gas giant
6 more sleeps til space game!
what you described as the gameplay loop is utter nonsense, sure youll be able to do just that but thats just one little part of the game its not all youll be doing idk where you got that from. this isnt gonna be boring like how no mans sky is
That mustache is such a mistake.
HYPE TRAIN GO CHOO CHOO
LETS GOOO!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
I'm assuming that any discoveries will stay on location for the entire playthrough ? , meaning that you can re-visit them at the same locations ? or will the planet regenerate once you leave and return making it a whole new experience ?
It'll most certainly be the former.
posible i imagine every random event has id and this id can be saved along whit other data ones player have visited
they’ve already said that it will stay there when you find them
Less than one week
server meshing
6 days
Aye..... especially if its all on foot hahahaha.....I bet a modder will mod a vehicle in at some point...
This won't age well. Apparently there is no exploration.
the game is not even out yet relax. play ir first before you overhype it
Starfield isn’t doing anything amazing…
Elite dangerous is much bigger…. Just to name one
Starfield is a narrative driven single player, unlike Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky or whatever. So it actually IS doing something amazing
The hate for this game is unreal 😂
I like elite but it's as wide as an ocean and as shallow as a puddle.
@@sylvesterprudhomme1804more like it’s justified this game looks mediocre as hell
