Lyrics:
He was strong just for his mother
Barely turned thirteen
When life made a man of him
His father took the train to Bombay
Just to make a living
On the tracks, he said to him:
“I’m not a perfect man; I’d never claim to be
This life’s so hard living, but loving you is so easy”
American Bollywood
He was strong just for his lover
Already twenty four
By the time he first saw snow
American Dreams were hard to conjure
Without a bed to sleep in
When she was sick he said to her:
“I’m not a perfect man; I’d never claim to be
This life’s so hard living, but loving you is so easy”
American Bollywood
Each new YTG song is like flipping over a pillow to the cool side and sinking in before going back to sleep. I can never get enough of this band.
I love that. Yesss.
I am liking them, I found now this precious
A decade listening and still counting. Every song is special
Well said!!
I enjoyed 3 out of the 4 songs. The only one I didn't like was Tomorrow.
This really hit home for me. Being a first generation south asian immigrant whose parents struggled to make a better life for their kids in Canada. Thanks for sharing your family's story Sameer. Couldn't be more proud of you and the band ❤️
As a first generation Mexican American, Young the Giant has perfectly emulated what it feels like to be so alienated being apart of two different cultures. I’ve been listening to them since I was a teenager and now as an adult; I could really see how their music helped me navigate through such a weird time in my life which I will forever be grateful for.
This comment perfectly summarized how I feel 💗 thank you
I'm a full grown man and i shed tears when I heard this song this morning. God I love this band!
Truly a dream to have been a part of this film, which hit so close to home. It reminded me of all my friends and family, who experienced the same ups and downs when immigrating to the United States from India in the 90s. A blend of east and west, just like those of us living in the South Asian diaspora. Thank you so much to everyone who helped with the production of this video, it turned out beautifully :) Since 2011
“This life is so hard living, but loving you is so easy”
Goddamn, god. damn.
I lost my dad last year... and as a child of immigrant parents, this song brought in a flood of emotions. This song perfectly captures the life of an immigrant pursing the American Dream for their family. Thank you for sharing your history and experience - I miss him everyday and this song feels like an ode to him.
i lost my mom at 14 so this song definitley hits hard "He was strong just for his mother, barely turned 13, When life made a man of him" It's not an easy thing to deal with. Much love to you!
That brought me to tears. The American dream is real. My grandpa is from South Korea and made his own path in the US to provide a better life for his family. I am always very grateful for the sacrifices he made for me to have a better life.
My mom was 14 when she migrated to America, she didn’t want to leave behind everything she knew and people she loved. She’s overcome so much and she’s my role model. This is beautiful. Thank you YTG.
As an aspiring Indian-American indie music artist, words cannot express how much this song, this music video, and this band means to me. Growing up in two different cultures, I never saw myself fully represented in either Indian media or American media. It's so hard to find South Asians with careers in Western music, and when you do, oftentimes you get artists who aren't known for putting their ethnic heritage on display due to (completely reasonable) fear of acceptance or alienating their audience. Jay Sean and even Freddie Mercury come to mind as Western artists with South Asian roots who are rarely seen as such. Sameer has always been a huge inspiration to me, and I am so elated to see him honoring his Indian immigrant heritage in this way. That is something I constantly try to do with my music.
Thank you, Sameer, and Young the Giant for bringing such authenticity to your music. I will forever be your fan ❤️
Love you guys so much and so grateful to be a part of this experience! Thank you so so much, to everyone involved 💙
Im crying. This hits home. Thank you for capturing the essence of all of our beautiful immigrant families. I’m at a loss, thank you thank you thank you.
This music video almost made me cry. What those before us have given up for us to have what we have. I'm really excited for the rest
Chills. Young The Giant has done it again. Absolutely gorgeous cinematography, and even though it wasn’t my childhood, the home videos give me so much nostalgia. Love you guys to the moon and back! ❤️
The concept, the colors, the music, all was perfect. Thanks for this!
So so so glad to be a part of this experience. An absolute dream to see the vision brought to life. Thank you to the whole team!
Finally a great band with great music to save the summer
proud immigrant and and child to immigrant parents. The sacrifices and tribulations we go through for our kids and see our parents gon through for a better life. This is the " American dream". Beautiful song.. brings a tear. Proud of my mom and dad
Crying after watching this. Proud of you guys for branching out on your own to create this music and to make it so authentically. This album will be worth the wait.
Been following since The Jakes and y'all have been and probably always will be my favorite band.
I am a procrastinator and finally got around to listening to American Bollywood after being initially moved by The Walk Home. This album is pure beauty. I am deeply moved by this record and can’t wait to experience a live show. I haven’t been so hooked on an album since the 90s. It has helped me on my own personal journey from dark places that are common in people in search of an identity. I am a second generation Canadian from an immigrant family from Poland that escaped during WW2. Despite Canada being known as a mosaic of cultures, assimilation runs rampant. This nation is filled with a lot of people who are suffering from an identity crisis as a result of the immigrant experience. The irony is that the European colonialism process seeked to destroy other cultures identities, but in the end this land is littered with lost souls that struggle to find purpose in this world. This album connected me with my past and my obsession with the future and enabled me to Wale Up and live in the present moment. Thanks for this incredible album. I can’t wait to see your live show sometime.
They NEVER dissapoint. Love you guys, come to Peru soon! 🇵🇪
So much more than a song. YTG just has a way of turning the most meaningful lyrics into the art of storytelling. The lyrics of "This life's so hard living But loving you is so easy" just hit me on another level. never had I thought lyrics could make me cry. I lost my grandfather a month ago who raised me until adulthood and he was one incredible person. A Korean conflict vet of the Navy having to raise a rebellious grandson in the late 90's early 200's was probably not his ideal choice. No matter how much I messed up and made things hard, he was always there for me and those lyrics just remind me of him saying to me everyday. Thank you YTG for always finding ways to make songs so real. Sorry to go off the path of immigration which is way more important than my story than mine. A faithful fan from Santa Fe, NM since '11
I am not immigrant but I love Young The Giant so much, I'm crying over and over because of this song. This album is brilliant, love it so much. I hope someday I can watch Young The Giant live concert
Lets go
This made me emotional. So beautiful.
LET'S GO BABY! My go-to band when I absolutely positively must like the music.
Just saw them in Chicago at the Aragon theatre without being very familiar with their discography. After watching this I feel blessed to have been able to see it live. This album is incredible, it’s unlike anything I’ve heard and the album means so much to my friend who brought me to the concert- I can see why now. ❤️
This song and video brought tears to my eyes because it made me feel seen. My family was taken from India to work as indentured servants in Guyana, after which they traveled to the United States. It is such a strange and sometimes isolating experience to be first generation American and Indian-American, especially via the odd path my family had to take, but this captured the nuance of it and made me feel less alone.
Brought tears to my eyes....thank you.
I am Mexican, Native American and White (Swedish and Norwegian roots). I have darker skin who grew up with a White mother, so to say I understand how it feels to be mistreated or misrepresented is an understatement growing up in America. I give all the praise to my family, which has been broken up since i was 2. I learned how to push forward through the bigotry and stress early on as i leaned on both of my parents at different times and my Aunt (my dads side), figuring out how to deal with growing up and being judged as a child for no reason. I really fell into my roots with the help of best friends i gained on the street I called home in Northern California for years that now have been life long brother's (RIP Michael, fuck cancer at 20) and gained solid footing on how to hold my head up high.
Watching this does something to me...like YOU and YOURS fought to be AMERICAN. Fighting for that dream i was already supposed to have! Watching your old home videos makes me think about my son now and how I have to teach him about this life, the good and bad....because as you stated, its not easy to live this life at times. We need each other to become stronger and feel accepted in this world. I don't care what your skin color or origin, if you are here you are my American brother or sister period! 💯 i needed to revisit this song today and just release my emotions.....
Maaaaaan whomever produced this, absolutely amazing.
Это очень честная, личная работа. Музыка с колоритом, вкусными этническими мотивами. Большое спасибо ♥️
amazing band, with soulful music! it lives on.
The cinematography, the story telling, the music omg perfection
I have missed Young the Giant so much. I've been listening to them since I was a teenager and I'm an adult now. Such an underrated band.
Loved it!! Love seeing Sameer’s gorgeous family!!
Music video is absolutely stunning. A masterpiece.
Coming to this country when I was eleven this song really hits home for me and I'm sure for many immigrants.
Indeed it does! 😢
This speaks volumes of the internal journey we experience as first generation Indian Americans. Been reflecting on the same these days…what was, is, and what’s to come. What legacy are we going to leave with our footsteps as we think upon our past?
This is so cool & beautiful ~ Thank you, Young the Giant. 💖💝❤️
Just came from the Q&A and I do believe that this will be the best album to date because everyone of them are the best once they drop! Love from Texas!

I don't really have words. All I can say is how much I love this. Everything about it. Since the meaning and story to the visuals and creative direction. You guys are constantly outdoing yourselves. Everything you do is new and even better than what you've done before - and I didn't even think that was possible. This brings me so much comfort. I love the passion, the hard work and I am so proud. I hope you are too. This deserves to be celebrated. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. It's all so mesmerizing. Thank you thank you and congratulations on another amazing release. You guys have been a source of inspiration, hope and everything in between for nearly a decade or more. I got the chance to see you guys play in Toronto at KoolHaus before they tore it down and well…you guys saved me. You turned a sad person without ways to express themself into a functioning person who actually learned ways to cope. I congratulate your continued success and your celebration of culture. I look forward to more.
This video is so emotional, and this song is perfect 🤎
