The song speaks to a feeling of abandonment in a harsh foreign world (Amerika). The singer knows he was merely a pawn in someone else's game, but he's too naive to understand how he was even played. He was manipulated at a time and place where he truly needed companionship :(

Vanice Icarus same thing happened to me. I recorded Artists Den (PBS), just out of routine, and here was this group that I had never heard of. They were performing at... El Rey. That's all it took. I was strangely and obsessively hooked.
I caught them in Atlanta a few weeks back (drove a few hundred miles for that). They were awesome.

I work in immigration and this song is one of those that keeps me going on the hard days. I don't know how you did it, but you somehow captured a slice of the lives and stories we see in a song. We see a lot of happiness and a lot of sadness. Thanks for making it feel less lonely.

Holy smokes. Just listened to the song for the first time while reading the lyrics. How can it be this good? How can the story, the lyrics, and the melody all align this well when so many "songs" out there are meaningless gibberish? This is the definition of music. It's perfection.
Everything this band puts out is gold, saw them live in Hawaii and Sameer makes me melt
This song makes me so happy. I rode through a bus with 17 other teens in Costa Rica listening to this. It was only the 2nd day that we had all known each other, and I SWEAR this song is what brought some of us closer together. Thank you Young the Giant!!!!!!

First time I heard these guys was on the MTV acoustic set they played 6-7 years ago. I remember asking my wife to come and listen to the the amazingly crystal clear vocals (fast forward and no deterioration on the front). My wife's favorite band. Saw them live in CT a couple of years ago and have tickets to the D.C. show this coming November. Very good band indeed.
