Honestly, I've never seen, EVER, on UA-cam such well done lighting, color grading, background, and image quality in a video studio segment. Whatever the hell you are doing, please keep it up. LOL it puts my channel to shame... but in kinda a good way cause it gets me inspired. Nice job Rubidium.
That's very kind of you to say :) Its probably overkill for this kind of thing, but I like to get as close as I can to what I would shoot professionally.
I wish the XT-4 would be able to do this! Clean noise from F-Log.
I remember a year ago or so you talked about this and you showed a chart made by Canon. It showed how many stops of exposure that could be captured above and below the 18% gray. Very informative.
Jeff Speers what was the name of that video?
Demetri Zuev ua-cam.com/video/xit6Pyouj9I/v-deo.html 2:30 minute mark.
2 videos in 1 day!? Best day ever!
Native ISO has been an area of great confusion for me as well. However, this video was very enlightening! Thank you.
from my (basic) understanding, the native ISO just means the lowest level that the stops in the highlights and shadows stop moving around.
Great video, love your stuff man. Just wanted to point out Clog2 is a gamma curve, not a color space. I’m sure you know, just want to clarify for others so there’s no confusion
Yes! This is a really good fix to know about, so easy
Cheers Arian! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this! Literally exporting a noisy c200 video right now and had to apply denoiser which takes way longer to export :(
Also remember to do black balancing :)
Jan Tore Sorensen yes that too. I keep forgetting that. Only had the c200 for a month now so I just have to get used to it!
Terrific, as always. One question to clarify: Do you end up shooting at 200 with no ND or 800 with ND most of the time? (Or, rather, which do you ultimately prefer?)
Rene Ritchie seems like he’s saying 200/no ND for UA-cam, since the editing is quick and dirty and he doesn’t want to spend time using noise reduction software. For feature work, I’d imagine there are occasions where 800 would be preferable.
Thomas is mostly right. I go by how much of the shot is going to wind up in those bottom 2 stops. If I was shooting outside, I would stick to ISO 800 + ND because I want the dynamic range.
@@Crimsonengine Right on!
Do you still think you should increase the brightness two-stop? Or do you think you should shoot with the right exposure? I always shoot 1-2 stops high. Nowadays, some youtubers have to shoot at the right exposure, so when I shoot at the right exposure, it's dark and I need to increase the exposure in post-production. The same goes for the C500 MARK II.
Awesome as always. Thank you.
Very helpful! THANKS!
Thanks for the video! I always thought that when shooting RAW, ISO was just metadata, so you could overexpose and use the ISO to monitor at your desired exposure. Is this true for the C200?
Thanks! What do you recommend when shooting at night, without the ability to bring lights? Just expose "correctly" even if it means going to 3200 or 6400 ISO? Or something else?
Quick C200 question, when shooting raw are you able to monitor in clog2 via SDI out? I'd like to preview the image with a semi accurate LUT but I have no idea what profile is coming out of HDMI
Short Answer: You can't. The C200 has no way to display the native CLog2, only Clog3, through both SDI and HDMI. In reality they're not that different, with mid grey being at 38% and 40% respectively. If something is clipping by one stop on the Clog3 waveform, it should be OK in the Raw.
Maybe this help:

Any suggestions for correct exposure when shooting surfing in Raw with the C200? Usually plenty of light, the white foam has to be over exposed to correctly expose the surfer (usually in a black wetsuit). Its a very challenging work environment . I get noise in vertical columns thst are mostly only noticeable when panning, especially noticeable in the sky. I do black balancing but it doesn't help. My c200 experience has been terrible.
I appreciate your work. Thanks Brother.
Always happy to help! The Masterclass has a heap more like this.
Hey buddy great video as always...when are you doing a sale on your c200 master class ...say half price so i can sign up? Thanks
Your Training Course link is not working. Is your training video still available?

@@Crimsonengine Super, don't forget to change it in your YT page: ua-cam.com/video/sqFLbeMrsd0/v-deo.html
I think this will also apply to the c300 mk ii which sometimes has the same problem. Thanks!
It should, since the CLog3 curve is the same.
I don’t have the noise problem with my c300
Would this principle apply to other canon cameras
Nice video good info
I really don't get it how you lift the shadows in resolve? I have crazy much noise in my C200 raw footage. Great channel and video btw.
Do you ABB (auto balck balance) when changing camera locations? That will also help. Throw your sensor cap on and throw in into (ABB) b4 you start shooting so the camera can properly calibrate the black levels.
Nice tip! 11 stop is too low to shoot outside?
Jaime Jr King when shooting outside, 800 iso is fine. There’s no absolute black in daylight.
I took the master class, and it taught me much about iso, and proper exposure
Wouldn't doin the auto black balance calibration b4 every use also help? Much like with RED cameras??
I've never seen black balance help noise - I mainly use it for more accurate colors.
@@Crimsonengine how often do you ABB when using your C200?
so awesome
Hey thanks for this...we purchased your master class and shooting the c200 lower ISO is surprisingly great thanks - we didn't see your custom c200 LUT's in the download we purchased. - is there a link somewhere else? Thanks again for loving the camera we love...( trying to get to the same place with the SIGMA FP now)
Thanks guys! Glad you found it useful. The LUTs are in the root download directory on Sellfy. Its a small Zip file.
@@Crimsonengine i may have screwed up - wasn't it part of the purchase of the masterclass? Or was that never the case and it's just my misunderstanding. Also I can't find ANYWHERE the proper workflow ( which would be a quick update of your 2017 tutorial on grading canon raw light in Davinci Resolve) - where we use the Canon Raw Project and Color page settings for initial changes) we are finding any tweak of the raw settings drastically effects the export- but just putting a 709 on the timeline and grading works fine. Thanks for all you do,.
I only use final cut. How would you import canon c200 raw for best results?
I haven’t used fcp since version 7, so I’m not the guy to ask
hi i cant find clog2 on my c200. i see only clog en clog3 how can i get it?
Clog2 is only when shooting raw
Canon claims that the native ISO of C200 is 800 though. I'm confused
Yes, it was said in the video. But native iso doesnt mean cleanest image and lowest noise. It just brings as many stops of dynamic range as possible from the sensor
Сергей Дмитерчук that's some sketchy decisions on canon's part then, in order to increase the on paper DR specs. Panasonic S1H for one, has two native ISOs - 800 and 2500, and they both are the cleanest of all that are available, so by default you're assuming that the native ISO should be the cleanest one. And then as you go up it gets more noisy cause the signal is boosted. So either 800 is not in fact native for C200 or Canon just didn't care much.
@@demetrizuev258 yeah, but noise becomes a real issue when recording raw. In other codecs camera manufacturers tend to apply some noise reduction. In some cameras you cant even completely turn it off
Nope. Native is 200. 800 is when you have best distributed DR. Check the manual
Nikita Pavlov I have gone through all the 95 mentions of ISO in the manual and there is no info about the native ISO being 200 there. Where does this info come from?
When are you going to have sale on course c200
