    My first and only shutterbug 85 was a mobula 7 conversion that burnt out an fc due to the xt30 overloading esc’s
    I’ve since rebuilt one with the same components only this time a toothpick frame (so even lighter), 2 inch avan props and the stock mobula battery connectors with solid pins. Flies amazing

      I hated the interconnect pins on the BetaFPV stuff I bought and are now not flying. After a few crashes the pins get sloppy and intermittent and then the parts are no good. Glad to see they are going with the AIO FC/ESC's now.

    Shutterbug 85: What props have been tested? I spent half a day yesterday testing props, 5 different ones and multiple packs, on my version of the Shutterbug 85. The Avan blur 2" 3 blade prop came out as my favourite by a good distance - noticeably better than the 4 blade avan micro 2" which betafpv put on their models. Anyone else have experience and results playing with props on their 85 builds? What did you prefer?
    My setup is the betafpv 85 frame + happymodel v2.1 board + happymodel 1102 motors and cam (most of the parts used to be a sailfly-X). I had to use a red hot pin to punch holes in the frame to mount the happymodel motors. 40grams dry.

    I LOVE this thing! It flies really well!
    I have replaced the motors with 8000kv Beta motors, just to see what would happen.
    Seems to be an improvement.
    Lotsa oomph, not a lotta heat.
    Got desperate to fliy, 'cause it's been rainy here. used an adapter to fly 1S indoors.
    And it works great!
    The PID tuning is a bit soft in 1S, but, running indoors, in level-mode, that's not really such a bad thing.
    Keeps it from screaming and suctioning itself to a wall if you get too close to one. (c:

    Totally get the Avan props now, after getting two motors stuck (Both CW.) on Gemfan 2040 Hulkies. Thankfully I had spares from Beta75x and Toothpick builds. I only used them as I was too lazy to go out and get some dental floss. Any tips for removing stubborn props B.T.W.?
    So I just got back from my local park flying a bunch of packs, no one batted an eyelid, women walking past close to me saying to kids "Oooh look at the little drone." with glee. Totally different reponses to what I was getting with Le Pickle builds. I had even stopped flying there.
    So quiet and yet effortlessly performs the most demanding acro manauveres. Super good my man.

    SB85 type super-light build on 2S is my favorite whoop now. I fly them so much I keep having to fix them from crashes due to pushing harder with more tricks as I learn. Whoops are great because often you can hit tree branches up high, recover and keep flying. I try flying my 75 whoops and don't like them very much after the 85 on 2" Avans spoiled me.

      Correct. It comes with an unofficial release of betaflight. There are issues with the latest configurator. So you can reflash to an official version, or use the 10.4 configuration. I offered the link because it flies great out of the box with the setup it has.

    I need advice from you.
    Removing Beta85 props? I tried spinning off by hand like with my meteor 75.. Nope. Shaft spins.
    I understand why they make it tight. These 1102 11000 motors are beastly little motors. They have a reputation for ejecting bells and prop & shaft goes bye bye. 🙁
    So, some genius decided to make the 1.5 prop ID a tad smaller to prevent slippage.
    Well. I used one a prop tool
    (Facepalm goes here)
    I managed to not only bend the soft metal of the tool as designed to do, I also managed to unknowingly bend the bell arches and smashed said bell onto the windings.
    Unbeknownst to me, yesterday I noticed my batteries tanked rapidly. Less than a minute each. I knew something was wrong so I checked for heat.
    3 warm motors and 1 that would have burnt my lip.
    😣 I'm not feeling too smart.
    I bought it the 8th. of this month and received a backup I ordered that day.
    Yeah.
    What to do?
    How the __ do I change these without damaging anything?
    There so tight I pulled two of 4 blades off a tip damage only prop that I planned on saving for emergencies from one motor.

      Did your drone come with Gemfan props? I still use the Emax Avan 2” props. They have the opposite problem. The Avan props are a little loose. My solution for loose props is to add a bit of dental floss. Seriously! I made a video about that. It is an option to consider.

    I just got one and I had to replace the FC after 5 or 6 flights because the 5V regulator got fried. The replacement F4 2S AIO flight controller from betafpv also crapped out in the exact same way, it's 5V regulator crapped out, I used tattu 450 mah 45C batteries for outdoor flights and the stock 300mah for indoor testing... the last board got fried on the stock battery. I read in rcgroups that people are putting 200u capacitors on their xt30 plugs to prevent this from happening.
    Has this happened to you at all with these flight controllers? I know it's the one you recommend for your shutterbug 85 builds. I'm considering using the F4 2-4S 12A AIO and an external rx instead of this all in one, sacrificing the weight for reliability. What are your thoughts?

    • @MrShutterBug
      @MrShutterBug  4 роки тому

      Unfortunately 5V regulators are the #1 point of failure on pretty much every FC. I have had them die on this 2S FC and on many others. I have added capacitors to some and that might help, but I've had regulators die even with the cap. So you could replace the FC, or you could fix the existing one by providing an external 5V regulator. That's actually pretty easy to do. I've used these: amzn.to/2Zt3uzX. Just cut off the red JST connector and connect that side to the battery terminal. Then 5V comes out the other side. If you connect that 5V wire to the 5V pad on the FC, it will power both the FC and the accessories. I've been wanting to make a video showing the steps because it is such a common issue. I just haven't had the time. Good luck.

    Have you tried flying this setup with a 525 mah battery? If the numbers are correct RDQ has one that is only 1g heavier than their 450 2s. Thinking it might be a great option for laid back cruising flights. I'll make sure to use your link when I buy one of these. Nice flying!
    One more thought, do you recommend using throttle scale limiting at all with this setup?

    • @MrShutterBug
      @MrShutterBug  5 років тому +1

      The RDQ battery will work great. It’s labeled as an HV battery, which means you won’t get the mah capacity on the label unless you choose to HV charge it. That’s why it’s the same weight. A 450mah battery holds 520mah when HV charged.

    What do you think of the new update that they just released for this model? They moved to an AIO board but now it’s 25mw only.
    I’d love to see you do a quick review of the update but it seems like you’ve moved on to bigger drones and custom builds. Do you still fly your Shutterbug 85?

    • @MrShutterBug
      @MrShutterBug  4 роки тому

      I have not tried the new drone nor the new 2S FC that is in it. In general, I would say that it is a good change if it reduces weight and doesn't introduce any new problems. I usually use 25mw transmitters on my whoops. That is plenty for indoor track racing or flying outside with direct line of sight. The time when you need higher output power is when you want to fly farther away or penetrate through buildings or forest. I usually fly my whoops at close range and I fly other drones at longer range, so I would be fine with 25mw. But if you need more, then just build the drone from components. It's pretty easy to do with whoops. Have fun! :-)

    Hi Mr.Shutterbug, Thanks for sharing your Information. I got mine last week and just got into the FPV Hobby. I updated to the official betaflight v.4.0.5 and set your PID Settings. First as you stated the extisting betaflight on the beta85 seems to be unofficial, maybe this cause strange Motor sounds while trying out to paste the old DUMP into 4.0.5. After Setting up your PID Settings, it made really strange things. I think it was my mistake but can you also Setup a betafpv85 with official 4.0.5 Dump (also have to say, that I got the non-RX Version of 411). Best Regards !

    • @MrShutterBug
      @MrShutterBug  5 років тому

      My PIDs work with betaflight 3.5.7 and with the unofficial version they ship on it. The official Betaflight 4 is quite different and the PIDs do NOT work the same. If you want to use 4.0.5 then I suggest using the default PIDs, not mine. The Project Mockingbird tune will be another good option when that’s available. Good luck!

      I do not have a 4.1 tune that I like on the 85. I recommend betaflight 3.5.7 with the PIDs that I pinned as a comment on my original “ShutterBug85” video. If you want all the latest bells and whistles then I recommend trying the 4.2 release candidate(but don’t use my PIDs in that case). 4.2 is much better for micros than 4.1 imo. Good luck.

    • @MrShutterBug
      @MrShutterBug  4 роки тому

      I haven't tried that FC yet. In general, I think 25mW is plenty for racing, or flying around an open park or yard. If it has a built-in SPI receiver, then the video will probably go farther than the receiver. 200mW comes in handy when you want to go farther or if you need to penetrate through more obstacles like vegetation or multiple walls.

      I’ve never tried changing an EU receiver to the FCC (USA) version. It might be possible to change the firmware, but I’m not sure. You might be able to connect an external Rx to the UART that currently sends Smart Audio to the vtx, but I have not tried that either. Good luck.
