By the time they are grown up. You don't normally hear of people talking of these things throughout their lives. It won't get me anywhere personally but it will maybe help other families though.

As a todler l had meningitis and l had encephalitis and l had a scullfracture (when l fell of a swing set. All of them before my 4th year!) Yet l am 56 years and life is becoming more and more a struggle. Can you please show me where to find information what the damage of all these things to my brain can be to show a doctor who is in denial of the effects these illnesses have on my brain! Please help!

My parents have told me that when the GP first came out suspected Meningitis but later ehen I was rushed to hospital and eventually it turned out that I had HSV Encephalitis as a 1 year old in 1977 when there wasn't no acyclovir out then so I was treated with antibiotics. I DID have a fever. I was diagnosed with status epilepticus at the same time. It was my first birthday party and someone there had a cold sore, I was being passed around from person to person and everyone was kissing me. I don't know the names of all the scans I had, nobody has mentioned an MRI scan to me. I had EEG though. Hmmm.? How do you prevent Encephalitis in babies these days? I have been treated with anti-epileptic drugs. I was seen by a paedetrician many of times. My parents DID always ask questions but all they were told was that I had picked a virus up and will get over it, but "make sure that she doesn't miss out on her medication", and be aware if she ever gets a high temperature but nothing at all else. My parents were woth Epilepsu Action until my seizures stopped, and at that time the Encephalitis Society first came out. It's a pity that they weren't out much sooner to help my parents, advise them or talk to them while I was growing up but that never existed, which is why I am trying to make sure that other children and their families don't ever have to go through what my parents and I had to. There are not many people who talk about whatever illnesses they had as a young child
