I lived in a house of pain....unwanted and neglected. "Rockford Files" was my best friend. Seriously.....the show helped me cope better than therapy. I just wish I could have written to James Garner and told him the impact of his show.
I’m a Rockford Files fan so I clicked on this video. Then I shouted to my wife, “HEY, I KNOW HIM.” Great rendition, friend! Glad to see you’re still as talented as ever!!!
THE best? It's a very good one, indeed. But is there a best? And, if so, is it that? I offer this as a contender........ ua-cam.com/video/HnkXkCuxePk/v-deo.html
You hit the jackpot, nailing that iconic theme from the "Rockford Files" like nobody's business. I gotta hand it to you, you played every instrument like you had a detective's intuition, effortlessly capturing the soul of the show in one-man band harmony. You know, it takes a special kind of genius to do what you just did. You've got the finesse of Jim Rockford's expert lock picking, smoothly handling each instrument with finesse and precision. It's almost like you've cracked the code and found the secret formula to transport us back to the gritty streets of L.A., right into the heart of the private investigator adventures. I gotta be honest, your performance was sharper than the tip of Jim Rockford's 1970's pinpoint oxford collar, and as precise as his Pontiac Firebird J-turn, yet somehow as smooth as the words from Cannell's writing. You managed to capture that unmistakable "Rockford Files" vibe - a combination of laid-back charm and just the right amount of edge - with every note you played. So keep playing, but remember to stay humble as in the words of Jim Rockford himself, "I hold my virtues to a minimum so they're easy to keep track of."
If not for YT algorithms, this video would have a million views. I get tired of algorithms deciding which videos are worthy for me to watch and or listen to.
@@calvin-bottoms You are awesome! regardless of artificial intelligence crap telling us which videos we should view... Live on man!, and we will live on with you.
Wow, I'm blown away. I was just watching an episode of the show and thought, let's look and see what youtube has on this them song. You are very talented and thanks for making my night! I passed this onto my Dad who loves this show as well.
@@wadeconner3200 I definitely have a few favorites in mind, but nothing started. Taxi, Barney Miller, Cheers. The ultimate would be Sanford & Son, but I think that one might be beyond me.
Beautiful! The Passion really shines through! Best rendition! I would love to hear Mike Post's reaction to it. Switching out the synth for horns in spots would knock out of the park.
Great job! It brings back happy childhood memories. They just don't make television shows this good anymore. Excellent theme song. Consider a career writing for these shows. Goodness knows they need improving.
This song has been in my head for a few days now, ever since I watched a completely unrelated movie starring James Garner. Imagine searching it on YT and finding out that you put this amazing cover up just a couple of weeks ago! Thanks!
This is the best version of this on you tube. I cover this also on my upcoming cd but I can't top this. I would say this describes the expression "spot on". I love the guitars. It is not real drums though, right? They are good. Did you program them?
Wow, thank you so much, Tom! Yes, I programmed the drums in Logic. I haven't gotten around to learning how to play them yet. ;) I look forward to hearing your version of this great tune. Where should I be watching for your CD? Thanks again.
This original song is in the top ten songs of my life - I'm so impressed with your spot-on re-creation of the Mike Post original single - for years I had an idea to try do this on keyboard only but you blew it away! - very thankful for all the work and time you put into this great audio/visual production.
Think I already left you a thanks, but I've listened several times. I turned my 70 year old cousin on it to it and she lov❤ed it! It so fun! Thank you!
Wow . . .perfect. Must have been satisfying putting this altogether where others could not Interesting, I never heard the acoustic guitar in it before . . .yet there it is.
Thank you! It is fun to take it all apart. In this interview ua-cam.com/video/snruBzT-bPA/v-deo.html Mike Post mentions two flutes, but I have never been able to hear them.
Without a doubt, this is the best version of "The Rockford Files" tune that I have heard anyone do thus far. Amazing that you did this all on your own. Kudo's to you. On my copy of a Mike Post album, "Railhead Overture" it is listed as Jim Gordon on the drums. Another excellent studio musician who has played with a host of artists. He was in "Derek & the Dominos" and actually wrote the keyboard ending for "Layla".
Rockin, absolutely rockin. You didn't just do justice to the already brilliant original theme - this is even better. Watching you do it all yourself split screen is a joy. Cheers.
amazing!!! Very good!!! I remember James Gardner in his television series. I loved that music!!! Thank you very much for spreading and recreating it. From Argentina thank you very much!!!
Mike Post would approve!

Jim! So good to hear from you! I hope all is well with you and yours. And glad you enjoyed the video. Take care, brother!
Jim, this is Cal from the Leave the Whales Alone club. Our protest cruise leaves from the pier Saturday 3pm; the whales need you, Jim! 😂
James Garner and Mike Post would approve this message!
FANTASTIC!! This is the BEST theme to ANY tv series EVER. You nailed it!

I watch this on reruns on Cozi every weekday. Was the best show on TV

Brilliant! Watching it over and over.
What absolute talent !!! Brings back many happy memories of the 70s, the best decade of music. Best EVER tv series ❤ RIP JAMES GARNER.
Good on you man, that was epic.
Glad you enjoyed it!
the rockford files lives on
Fabulous work on a fabulous song. Keep up the good work brother. 👍🏼
Hell yeah 👍
FINALLY someone talented enough to do this cover! INCREDIBLE work!
That keyboard voicing sounds the same as the one used in the "In Search Of..." theme from the 70s (hosted by Leonard Nimoy).
I had forgotten all about that show! It is a similar sound; could be the same synthesizer (Minimoog).
@@calvin-bottoms any chance of getting a cover of it? :) ua-cam.com/video/r_SAKcOuTpU/v-deo.html

Superb. He who keeps his gun in the cookie jar would be proud to rock such theme music, surely.
I'm bingeing Rockford at the moment, so this tune is very much on my mind. Bravo. If only I could play even ONE instrument.
wonderful....I even felt a pang in my heart, missing those good times. I also saw Garner passing by quickly with the Pontiac Firebird. Thank You
