How SpaceX Upgraded the Raptor engine shocked the entire industry...
How SpaceX Upgraded the Raptor engine shocked the entire industry...
If the scale of size makes Starship the largest rocket, then surely the Raptor engine is the key to making Starship the most powerful rocket.
To be able to play a key role in maintaining the crown for Starship, the Raptor engine has undergone countless improvements and overcomes limits that we couldn't even imagine.
How SpaceX Upgraded the Raptor engine shocked the entire industry...
So, how did SpaceX's engine develop to become as powerful as it is today?
Why do all these changes shock the whole industry?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
The Raptor engine project began as part of SpaceX's ambitious goal to transform humanity into a multi-planetary species.
Conceived in the early 2010s, Raptor aims to provide propulsion for the next generation of spacecraft, especially the envisioned Starship vehicle for missions to Mars and beyond.
How SpaceX Upgraded the Raptor engine shocked the entire industry...
The Raptor 1 was the first version to transition to using Methalox fuel instead of Liquid Oxygen and RP-1 kerosene as to the Merlin engines used by the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. The advantage of methane gas is that it is easier to produce, and store, burns cleaner, is more efficient than kerosene, and is better suited for missions like Mars.

The long history of rocket science, push the engine until it blows up, then improve it. It’s great that Musk is improving rocket science. Very little rocket engine design improvement and engineering was done from the 1960’s until Elon Musk came along. SpaceX is doing a great job.

Federal Agency NASA grabbed a monopoly on US space flight, kept it stagnated & unaffordable, corrupted/screwed up every contractor for 50 years until Elon Musk said “FU NASA, we’ll do it ourselves, our way”.

The hard part is the fuel if not pour into those engine when flipped or move around since the gravity effect the flow since it bigger tanks. Since it almost empty.

That Milestone really validates Elon's Theory that He could do a better job than buying used or old Russian parts to make a rocket !!!

Great Video ! The SpaceX Starship HLS and the Cargo Starship must grow some legs soon ! With five or six Legs the Starship will remain standing on the moon and/or Mars Evan if one leg fails to deploy ! A Lunar Outpost is needed at the Lunar South Pole for SAFETY, if Starship does not remain standing ! Near the Lunar Outpost is the Fuel Depot supported by the Lunar Water Ice (H2O). The Tech developed to return to the moon to stay, can take US and the world to Mars and beyond ! tjl

Just from logistics alone, fewer parts means less failure point probabilities. (the safety and reliability thing) The difference in fuels shows in the flame colour, orange flame more carbon content, blue flame more hydrogen content. With less carbon (and more hydrogen) the less environmental CO2 issues.

So, 4 more test flights with Raptor 2's, hopefully they can be used gainfully, like get re entry profile optimized...
I suspect next test will be the beginning of that, and have down stream effects on the Sub Orbital Inter Continental Service.
Basically same profile will be optimal. just one starts above orbital velocity, and the other stays below.
It should lead to new design concepts for ships, and if SpaceX is too stubborn, maybe the Chinese or the Russians will realize the potentials.
With fabrication, in Stainless, it means that new hull designs could be tested with scaled down ships on existing rockets like Soyuz or Long March, or even Falcons..
And he who gets there firstest with the mostest will dominate.
And I am sure the next Starships will be tracked
and trajectory learned even if not published.
Also the Hypersonic research will be very close, and familiar to contractors.
So it might behoove Space Force to start the thinking process earlier rather than later.
Maybe put aside some piggy bank for such research, en route to their dream Space Plane...
Also after Raptor 3's start flying, I think it will dawn on many that simplification is not a joke. Probably see a few BE-4's in the dumpster behind Jeff's Hobby Shop...🤭
And maybe even NASA will awake from their Rip Van Winkle snooze, and realize Space really isnt that hard even snowflake enginerds...
Simplification means more organizations have the capability.
Might even see ESA come up with new engines?
I think these next flights will be pivotal...
Create a watershed in Space history.....
And that V-2 will show a few signs of primal proto futuristic thinking on ship design.
And by V-3, the competition will be booting, and near panic ensue....
With the beginnings of a new era in Space exploration within our reach.
Hopefully its realized that an increasing amount of funds and effort should be put into it, whilst reducing legacy Military spending.
With bases and ships in Space, current Military doctrine will join Napoleonic Cannon in history...

Yeah, I did a concept writ on a way to solve the fuel ships problem too a couple days ago on another channel...
Its like hiding Easter Eggs conceptually... Usually most on Alpha Tech, but sometimes brain get triggered by other videos.
I think things will accelerate dramatically over the next 5 to 10 years... Buckle up! Emplace Helmet!

It seems that Elon Musk is having the same problem with heat tiles that NASA did with them on the Space Shuttle. Unfortunately, faulty tiles on the Shuttle were also the cause for much of the loss of life on Shuttle missions.

    Emergency!!! THE ONLY SOTUTION!
Baffles will not work to prevent the fuel slushing problem, because the tanks of the starship system are too large. That is the only reason why the starship engines have been exploding every time.
    The solution:
The tanks of Starship and Superheavy need 2 disk valves, expanding the diameter of each tank. One of the disks, the one on top, rotates above the contiguous disk to close the overlaping holes on the surface of the disks; to reduce the Size of the tank by dividing it, before any rotation or acceleration of the rocket. This will prevent slushings and protect the plumbing, if located 10% above the bottom section of each tank. Large telescopic pistons can be attached below the bottom of disk valves to control the fuel pressure as the piston expands into the fuel tank.
I have built a model that works perfectly. The second disk valve can be located 10% below the front of the tank, to also protect the front of the tanks from the slushing forces.
The gridfins are too flat and too small to be effective enough and will not be able to control the booster.
Why is Elon not using four pins instead of three to secure each heat shield tyle? Four anchor points provide far more stability to secure a tyle, not three. Also, each type should be constructed with the bottom half of the brick consisting of an interwoven latice of steal mixed into the silicon, to provide a foundation of strength and durability to each tyle. What is more important than securing the heat shield by providing the maximum stability and strength to each tyle? The interwoven steal mesh lattice mixed into the bottom half of the bricks, and the four anchor points would eliminate the problems of tyles falling off the ship every time there is an engine ignition event. Please get this message to Elon. Thank you.
Also, Spacex needs 3 actuators to move the payload bay doors correctly, not two. They have only two now, one at each end of the payload bay. They need one at the center position. Three will guarantee that there will always be enough support to open and close the doors, even if one of the three fails.
I know the spacex engineers can see these problems. It is like ignoring the elephant in the room. The solutions should be a no-brainer. Musk needs to hire people who can be trusted and who will not continue accepting bribes from Jeff Bozo to sabotage and cause unnecessary delays to the Spacex Statship program.

Elon musk is holding space travel back. He is a hard head that keeps reading his own by lines and think he can buck physic. Jokes on him physics doesn’t care. When he launches into high orbit and lands booster or catches it. Then brings starship back to earth for a landing.
The two milestones will not happen without major redesign. If he land booster starship will not reach minimum Leo.
The government kiddy will dry up after 7 straight failures. So he can’t reach stardom until he delivers the entire package. Tesla is starting to dry up. And he still hasn’t delivered the ultimate battery. One bright star is falcon nine and super heavy at least they work great. Still remains to be seen based on number of launches.
His shine is beginning to tarnish.

That is retarded. Engineering always needs to improve. Saying something is ‘good enough’ means stagnation.
