      Ayyyy Patty Melt is still my favorite thing on the menu, but as she noted it can be lacking in the flavor department compared to some of the other items. But, you can have it your way, and Whataburger lets you change things up with your order. I usually like to add bacon to my Patty Melt, and sometimes Jalapenos if I want that extra kick of spice. Highly recommend it.

    As a public service: If you want crunchy fries, chicken and onion rings...eat them at the store. Putting them in paper bags and driving home "steams" them making them less crunchy.

    8:30 Greetings from Nebraska, USA. Fried foods like onion rings are best RIGHT out of the fryer. Keeping them on heat or a warmer can let them last a little longer. But the moment they're shoved into your bag and you take the time to drive somewhere to eat it, they're gonna get soggy and cold. So, they surely were crispy when they were made, and probably when they were served to you, but being trapped in a closed steamy bag for the trip home works against that.
    I think Dairy Queen has the best fast food onion rings, but, I've never been to Whataburger either.

    • @JohnLeePettimoreIII
      @JohnLeePettimoreIII 7 місяців тому

      @@Qxeenbxlla my family (mother's side) homesteaded there in the late 1800's. generations down to my older brother were born there. when i moved there for work (i'm a Texan), i was told repeatedly that i was "a foreigner" and just about every day i was assaulted by groups of cowboys that didn't like me because i looked, dressed, and spoke differently.
      the economy is messed up. unless you inherit your job, or work in a very niche job (doctor, lawyer, government job, etc) then you're pretty much stuck doing minimum wage jobs. several of my friends were working 3 jobs just to make ends meet. casinos have had a horrifying effect on the job market. banks and businesses closed and casinos opened, offering crap jobs. the overwhelming majority of jobs are either in the service (store clerk, or hotel staff as examples) or labor industries.
      the drivers suck. people there more than any other place i have lived (and i have lived all over) are pretty much the worst drivers i have had the misfortune to encounter. roads are poorly maintained and have a tendency to bust up vehicles in short order.
      in smaller towns (most of montana) police corruption is a very real thing. you're a local or you get the "broken tail light" treatment.
      i could go on for a while, but i think you have already gotten the point by now. there are pockets of sanity and reasonableness, but i am speaking on the rule, not the exceptions.
      sure, the senery is incredible. but remember that a beautiful sunset doesn't fill your belly or pay the bills.

    Whataburger is nothing like it use to be. I grew up on Whataburger. Since I was your daughters age. After they sold out to another company they have added all these combinations of weird sandwiches. I am a purist, give me an old fashion double double with onion rings and a chocolate shake. 60 years ago they sold milk shakes and malts. Their chopped onions on burgers are unique and iconic flavor.

I hope I can still get that the next time I visit Texas.

    Whataburger is really great, and an added bonus... they're open 24/7!! From 11pm-11am, they serve breakfast items (along with the regular menu), equally impressive as their burgers and whatnot. My personal breakfast favs are their sausage, egg, and cheese taquitos and their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits (on their jalapeno cheddar biscuits, when available). But as with the rest of their menu, there are a plethora of other great breakfast items, many of which can, of course, be anyone's personal favs! :D

    • @Devila103
      @Devila103 7 місяців тому

      We pronounce Whataburger like water-burger. One word with water the American way, so it's more like wadderburger.
      The chili cheese burger has Frito's in it. That's the chips we use in a Frito pie. They are corn chips, which are different from corn tortilla chips.
      I wonder if anyone told you bottles of the Whataburger spicy ketchup and some of the other sauces can be purchased from one of the supermarkets?
      Next trip, you should go to Louisiana and try Cajun and Creole food. Just make sure your trip is during crawfish season (November to August). I recommend springtime, because the temperature won't be too hot and the alligators will be out more.

    I love What-A-Burger and I actually used to work at one in high school near Pensacola, Florida. I moved to Tampa, Florida (about 7 hours south) for college and unfortunately they don’t have them here, although apparently they used to have a couple of them and they closed not too long before I moved here in 2011. The patty melt is my absolute favorite and I also love the chicken strips with the white country gravy as well as the honey butter chicken biscuit!

    Ya'll eat good and simply love good food...and rightly so.
    Don't let those good Texas Charro beans slip by. Some of those places have them as a side dish but they can be absolutly delicious. The ingredients can vary a bit depending on the recipe being used but I found those charro bean fixings good enough to eat as a meal itself.

    My favorite is the patty melt, with pickled jalapenos, cut the sauce, then I pour the chicken gravy on it instead of the sauce.... So good.... It's an hour drive for Whataburger for me, sometimes I make the drive just because I'm craving it. The spicy ketchup is all we use in the house anymore for ketchup. Also, you can't go wrong with the honey butter chicken biscuit for breakfast.

    The key with the fries and onion rings is to not close the bag, leave it open, go straight home, and dump them out on a plate. They should be crispy, but when you roll the top of the bag closed or leave them in the paper cup they come in, the condensation makes them soft. I have a strict fast food policy in my house that if anyone closes the bag and makes my fries soggy, I will not be a happy camper 😂
    Also, I'm so sad yall didn't get any ranch! The chicken strips and onion rings are best when dipped in ranch...or ketchup as a backup, but ranch is king lol

    Whataburger opened August 8th, 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas. I was born in Texas sixty years ago and have enjoyed Whataburger my entire life. They are all owner operated, meaning different Whataburgers can be owned by different individuals. And although they are very good at monitoring their brand well
    You really can tell the difference between Whataburgers in different cities and even different areas of the larger cities. My experience has been that 95% of the Whataburgers in the nicer areas of town produce a more consistent quality product that pretty much tastes exactly like a Whataburger in another nice area of town.
    However Whataburgers in more ethnic isolated areas I would advise against eating at. I can only speak from my own experience having eaten at hundreds of different Whataburgers in every type of neighborhood. Either the employees in the nicer areas of town take more pride in their products than the worse areas of town. Or that the franchises in the worse areas of town skimp on their ingredients more or are not as well managed leaving the consistency and quality at the mercy of employees who could care less.
    Like I said. That's just my opinion created by my lifetime experience.
    Glad y'all enjoyed your vacation to Texas.

    The patty melt IS a burger...it does not matter what kind of bread it is on. "Burger" refers to a ground(minced) meat patty. Anything else is a "sandwich", even if it is served on a bun. I know you guys do it differently, but I must refer you back to who invented it. Our original burger was served on sliced white bread in New Haven, Connecticut, and it still is(this claim is disputed, as are most in America- The first one might be from Missouri or Texas). The term "hamburger" specifically means a beef patty, and was coined from the German "Hamburg Steak", which is similar to a "Salisbury Steak", both ground beef patty dishes.

    North Carolina has Whataburger but it's about 3 hours away from where I live & it is in the kannapolis / Concord area of NC where my grandparents use to live. It was the old drive up & sit & order & eat all in ur car & they wore skates to bring out food & it hung on a shelf type tray that hung on ur car's open window.
    I love the chili cheese burger & in NC we have a Carolina Chili cheese burger that has just the cheese burger, chili, coleslaw, diced onions( no onions on mine) & mustard & it's so good on a huge soft hamburger bun & we always got a Cheerwine(southern cherry style soda) instead of my usual Dr Pepper
    Did u guys try a Cheerwine it's NOT ALCOHOLIC, it's just a soda/ soft drink.
    It use to just be around my grandparents town but over the years it's now everywhere in the US. The other southern sodas are RC (royal crown) Cola & SunDrop which is similar to Mtn Dew but better. It's been many years since I ate at a Whataburger, I wish we had one in my area of NC near Fort Liberty/ Pinehurst area called the Sandhills of NC. I remember it always smelling so good where some fast foods smells odd or the smell sticks to ur clothes all day like Wendy's & Subway which tastes great but makes ur clothes & car stink. I give Whataburger a 9 out of 10, & I suggest the chili cheese burger & get coleslaw added to it.
    Southerners will understand
    They had good milkshakes too we have a fast food restaurant called Cook-Out & they have about 30 + different flavors of milkshakes which the fresh banana is my favorite but they have a watermelon shake during summer is surprisingly good. The orange creamsicle is always fantastic.
