Stuck Alone in Snow Storm Overnight | Building Log Cabin

- Episode 21 on the log cabin build series!
Sometimes I get caught up in the build and don't really think about how dark it starts to get. When the snow blizzard hit I thought that this is a great time to show you viewers my tent finally. This is just me doing the usual routines in the tent but many wanted to see this so hopefully you will enjoy the time as much as I do. The best part about building a log cabin in the middle of a dense forest is that even when it is super windy only the tree tops blow in the wind. Sleeping on the ground in winter is...not the greatest. You get more used to it over time and I would recommend trying it at least once in life but be prepared.
My Story:
When I graduated high school I sought a big challenge in life. To alone, with only simple hand tools and raw power, build my own traditional off grid log cabin by hand from the materials of the Swedish forest. I film everything myself and edit these videos so you can follow my journey and hopefully learn as I do. I have no earlier experience in any of this, just a visualization of what I want to achieve and willpower to learn and improve everything necessary. So I enjoy reading good advice in the comments. Enjoy!

You're interesting person. How can I contact you? Got many questions. Lived in Taiga forest my last live. Dreaming of things you do in a wild now. Would me happy to meet you man. Best regards from cold Russia.
No theatrics? Was swimming in freezing water really necessary? I might consider it if I was completely engulfed in flames.
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
I cannot believe he gets into that ice cold water like it's nothing. 😳 They will write songs and tell stories about this young man one day. He will be a legend.
Wut
People don’t care anymore 😢
Too many bad comments! What he does is art!! Jealousy is bad and a sin. Keep up the wonderful work, Erik😊
Walking into the river was pretty badass. Takin a bath like it was nothing
Screw that. I've swam in lakes in the summer that were way to cold!
That the thing with us Scandinavians, we don't fear the cold. We embrace it!
It good for you--Wim Hof
As cool as that looks it also looks frigid! Lol 😂 but cleanliness is next to godliness! ;)
Clean erik.
Guys im starting to think that building a log cabin by yourself in the middle of a forest with no power tools is actually kinda hard
At least chainsaw will be a big help.
And it helps to have this thing called youth !!!
Ok Sherlock Holmes
Yep! Glad I own a chainsaw!
To be fair. Of course it looks very faked.
Nobody makes better cutting tools than the Swedes. Whether it’s hand or power tools. This guy has done a amazing job keeping it old school.
There is nothing in UA-cam better than your videos. THANKS!
I can't imagine the amazing feeling of being surrounded by nature, in a tent, eating your own food, and reading a book. What a dream
Looks like it was a wet dream
It’s reality for him. And anyone with the gumption to get there.
@@user-ik2kj7sj7f Not if you live in Italy or somewhere. We are pretty lucky to actually still have forest left in Sweden, considering it was all chopped down in the 1600's.
You can do that at many, many places in the U.S. But, building that cabin by yourself, thats a whole different dream.
Dude more amazing is that he had a oven and a chimney in his tent
Did this mad lad just jump in to that water in the middle of winter?
Take my sub.
Scandinavian blood makes us immune to coldness!
It’s actually warmer
I literally said out loud when the clothes started coming off, "Surely he isn't fixing to do what it looks like he is fixing to do." My body would have gone into shock as soon as my big toe hit the water. Hearty bunch of folks over there!
It's not the middle of winter here in sweden anymore though (still pretty damn cold though)
Swedes bathe in freezing water and are capable of eating fermented fish from a can. It will be the Swedes who survive the Apocalypse! 😁
Stay safe, be well Erik. WE LOVE YOU, you know.
Whoa...a true swede. You don't just take a bath in an ice cold stream in the winter you go for a swim in it. Camping is sooo! much fun no matter what the weather. A true Scandi.
more people on earth need a soul like yours
Why?
I know. Young, hard working, modest, in touch with his nature and his environment, no drama or diva.
How true!!!!!!
I think there was a time when more guys were like this; modern conveniences have softened most of 'em.
Was how most were back in the day. Wonderful to see it now here answer there.
11 months left until i do this on my own in the southwest of Sweden. Thank you for inspiring me.
Good luck I hope you find your own slice of tranquility Sweden is a beautiful country. :)
Good Luck For March 2022!
Kör hårt 💪🏻🔥
Goodluck!
Do a UA-cam Video!
My great grandfather build a log cabin which now serves our family as our summer cottage. It has been a pleasure to watch you build one! Tusen tack, och hälsningar från Finland :)
Can we all appreciate Erik doing 2 laps to get that river swim shot? Camera and tripod swim, get out, set up, get back in, swim down and swim back, get out AGAIN, grab camera and tripod, Get back in, and swim AGAIN with the camera and tripod... All naked in freezing water!!! BRAVO!!!
The "in the making of" would require a bit more blurring, that's for sure! Good on him though... No way I can casually walk into near freezing water like it's no biggie.
If it was me, there would be no need for blurring out. In freezing temperatures like that, I’d technically become a woman. 🥶😄
You won't see the typical wilderness tv host attempt this.
You have the respect of every viewer and the encouragement from all to finish the log cabin. Thank you for your continued updates.

Working on the roof in the dark and snow with no gloves, and then your morning bathe in a stream! You're one tough Swede, Erik! It looks like the winter there is not yet over? I really admire those ornamental rafter feet which must have taken many hours of labour. I am sure that you will look back on them with pride in the future.
Yes, those rafters took soo long to make, and I only included some seconds of making them.
I'm a meal worker and have been for 40 years , This is the best DIY video's on the internet . this young man has a skill set i can not wrap my head around .
When my mans walked in the river, not tip-toed, just casually walked in like it was Friday at the community rec center, I instantly thought of the quote: "Hard times create tough men..." you know the rest.
Then to see the aerobics to get the muscles and body warmed up, very cool. I am so mesmerized. I'm binge watching now. This is what I think I was born to do. I love it.
On a cold snowy morning like that: I'd have stayed in my tent next to the wood stove. This guy sheds all of his layers and jumps into the cold water with nothing on but his birthday suit! That's one way to embrace nature! 😝
You have become a very good storyteller with your camera sttings and editing. Great work!
Very true. Although I do think how funny it’d look seeing someone set up a camera only to walk past it and then run back to get it. Or walk to place it and then go back and walk past it again. 😂😜
What a great video. Again, no annoying music, no pointless chitchat. Just a man, his tools and dreamlike nature shots. Many thanks for concentrating on the essentials.
I am glad to see that your house continues to grow and I am curious to see what it will look like in the end.
The dedication to all of these camera angles and the drone, and all that is what really is impressive overall. Sure building your own Log Cabin by hand is amazing, but I feel like your camera work makes it all the more better.
YOU'RE VERIFIED LEZZ GOOOO!!!!
We have the same kind of weather here in North Eastern Minnesota, and, we do not stop building in the winter. We shovel off the scaffold planks every morning, and, just keep on going. I have had to put my air compressor in the front of the truck with the heater on some days. But, the work goes on, i do not think i have ever wanted to jump in a cold lake for a bath, but, i have ended many days with a good sauna, and a hot wood fire. I admire this young man, he is doing something that he will never regret.
Truly amazing work, dedication and patience you have Erik! And about dedication: swimming in cold freezing water and even getting out of the water to reposition the camera and getting back in the cold freezing water for another shot!? Truly amazing!
I started shivering just watching that omg
Меня тоже удивил именно момент выхода из воды и переустановки камеры. Эрик уникальный человек!
Huge respect the more i watch your vids the more i feel the urge to do it myself, i very rarely sub to channels but you sir desrve it all! Stay safe, keep inspiring
Erik, your tenacity is astounding!!! It's quite obvious you've conditioned your body well, too. You are a remarkable young man. That snow-covered landscape was some truly beautiful scenery. I was very happy to see another upload from you!!! Looking forward to the next!!!
I was raised in a log cabin that my father built here in KY. ,which he later applied native stone to that he pick up here in KY. Watching you is a godsend to me, your dedication to a strong work ethic is like seeing my departed father living once again. It's great to know that people like yourself still exist in this troubled world, giving us hope and encouragement to carry on
You're insane. I love this! The world needs more people like you.
The maturity, common sense + wisdom of a forty year old - on 20 year old shoulders..................IMPRESSIVE
I am not just watching ,but would rather build my own cabin and own for mine self . love the channel gave me lots of idea's for life. thanks a million!*****
You should be on billboards in the USA as an example of what dedication, patience, and hard work can accomplish. I have to admit that I can't imagine being in that cold weather let alone the cold water and being able to move around ... haha .... You are awesome and I truly enjoy seeing the progress on your property.
@Emily Moyle I know that! But he could still be an inspiration to many, actually to anyone anywhere on the planet
I love the sound of snow compacting under my feet as I walk through a fresh falling.
Videos are so much better without music or talking makes you feel like your there with him so tranquil peaceful
I never thought a person could do that without freezing. You are really hard core. Shows us what a person with determination can do. Hope you have a well for your water some day.
Look up Wim Hof.....
And without screaming :D And first thing in the morning when it’s coldest and any sane person would try to get warm first.
Two main things (not that I'd recommend it).
1# Don't swim with clothes on, the clothes will stay wet and cause you hypothermia.
exercise
2# Do lots of exercise when you come out of there, keep moving,. jump around it will help keep you warmer.
@@Stettafire 1) very obvious and 2) yeah that's also good advice. But the real secret is to ease your body into it by taking a cold bath every day as winter grows colder.
@@Gameboygenius This guy has it, bathe everyday in the wild from summer to winter. Makes it a gradual change. OR, you could train yourself by gradually taking colder showers.
Holy moly, scandinavians are just build different 🥶
It's just what you're used to. If you lived here for a year or two, you would also be able to do this. But you have to live with bad ass people out in the country. Us city dwellers wouldn't do this!

Erik - if was ever trapped in the wilderness I would want to be with you! I'd get us out of a burning theater, but you'd keep us from freezing to death!
Erik I hope you are well , safe , healthy , enjoying your daily activity and creating by your hand your log cabin , I do appreciate it
for sharing with us here your wonderful skills , experience , hard working in that very cold environment .
you are doing amazing job .
God bless you in peace , happiness .
That kitty is so cute!
👍 oh my goodness he is really going to do it! You really wanted a bath, I am an outdoors dude but I could not and will not get in cold freezing water, no not me, but I admire your grit!
Yeah, take some of the water from the stream in a bucket and heat it up on a stove first.
I couldn't help but admire how gorgeous and strong you looked when you took a moment of pause on the roof. You ran your fingers through your hair as the snow fell, with a gorgeous frosted forest behind you. You are extremely handsome:)
Good to see you were well prepared for your overnight sudden snow storm
Absolutely amazing photography in this video. Your family brought you up well!
Erik, more of those video's. Exceptional!! Thank you.🍁🍁🇨🇦
Honestly guys can some of you be more constructive with your comments. Seriously.... This guy build by hands is own dream cab so give him the credit or simply stop leaving annoying comments.... Hey! Erik let me know that you really impress me from CANADA and I wish to have 30 years less. I will continue to follow you because you are doing what was my own dream when I was younger but with kids and family situation I never had courage to do it. Good luck with the end I'm waiting for the next video. Regards.... 2 thumbs up !!! :) (Sorry for my poor English I'm from Quebec the French part of CANADA).
I guess the Swedish belief is that if the water isn't frozen, it's warm enough to bathe in, I felt frozen just watching that!
Magnifique réalisation. Je suis avec un grand intérêt cette belle réalisation dans une nature superbe et non encore polluée par la folie des hommes. Merci pour cette vision optimiste de l’humanité. Continu comme ça.
It’s always a pleasure seeing how capable and talented you are! Bravo young man, I look forward to seeing you complete this monumental undertaking👍🏼🙏🏼🇺🇸
I'm an Arizona boy, so we tend to embrace the heat. It's a brisk 65 F in the shop this morning (first cool morning in 6 months) as I watch this kid casually walk into a freezing creek without so much as a huff. Erik, you are a maniac!
If my dad were alive he would have loved your videos. He was very much like you. You have shown me a lot of good things I can use. Thank you so much.
This young man is AMAZING, I hope his parents & whole family are very proud & supportive of him!
The process of building a wooden house alone in the wilderness is actually like a monk spiritual practice.
Love watching you build. Swimming through the snow covered trees was beautiful.
The native Floridian in me had an uncontrollable shiver hit me as you went on that water.

I could never have done this, you are an impressive young man.
I enjoy your videos. No annoying back ground music. Just natural noise you hear and we hear it with you. Enjoying watching you mature from your first video and struggling with things to muscles and tackling anything with confidence.

I am a 52 year old Italian. When I was your age, I pitched the tent a few times while camping, cursing a lot if I bent a stake or a mosquito stung me. Not to brag but sometimes the tent lasted even two or three nights without collapsing ... You have all my esteem and admiration.
Hi Erik, I watched your first build and was really fascinated in your beautiful skills and the idea of building a cabin in such a beautiful place. Now I just found the other videos by chance and I have all the catching up to do. If I could afford to do something like this I would be in heaven. Your videos are wonderful and the forest is so tranquil and peaceful. Thank u for these videos and inspiration.
OK, I draw the line at that. An indoor bath with hot water is essential ! Brave young man.
Imagine taking a bath, getting out to reposition the camera and get back in.
In the summer maybe, but not the winter. Way too cold for me and me timbers.
well, IMHO the vid is from two baths actually - you can spot wet hair after splashing &diving at 18:35, dry hair while swimming along the creek and wet again. But who cares, it´s just evidence of a fact that he does this routine as... his routine :)
