After 3 Years I Start Working Inside The Log Cabin

  • When I graduated high school in Sweden I sought a big challenge in life. To alone, with only simple hand tools and raw power, build my own traditional off grid log cabin by hand from the materials of the Swedish forest. Now after 3 years I have built the log cabin but there are still a LOT of things left to do. In this video I built my table for the log cabin with no nails or screws using only hand tools. I am now working on the interior for the log cabin. Next video will be the open fireplace build, that is a huge project.

I'm sure you get lots of free (and undesired) advice but I thought I'd add mine to the mix!
When making dowels, it's ofter better to do a couple or a few holes that get progressively smaller, that way you burnish/compress the fibers of the wood more and get a stronger dowel with a better finish in the end.
I would also recomend figuring out a better way to immobilise your worpiece for the mortises and practicing sharpening your tools more. Both of these things will make it easier and safer to work with chisels. No matter how fancy your tools are, if you can't make them sharp, they won't cut!
Love the video and the table still turned out fantastic!

If I've said it once I've said it at least a dozen times; " WELL DONE ERIK, WELL DONE!" It's always a joy to watch you work with such patience and high craftsmanship, and you seem to do so in a calm, relaxed manner. Your carpentry skills have really increased, as have your ability to make truly "Scan-design" furniture. You are a true mentor and inspiration to many young, and not-so-youngish men (and women) throughout the world.

Spectacular craftsmanship. You have a big career ahead of you in carpentry and wood working. People will pay a fortune for some of those pieces. That is true talent. I'm 55 years old and haven't figured out what my talent is yet, if I even have one.

I could watch you do this all day. The time, dedication, and care you put into your projects really pays off with something original and beautiful. I also can’t get enough of your cinematography style. No music, no words, just the sweet sound of tools and hands at work. You’re a fantastic jack of all trades

Well done Eric. You have and are doing what I always wished. I've passed that time in my life now though and don't necessarily regret it but still have a wish for it. Through you, I and many others are able to experience the journey without the pain and sweat you have incurred and I am forever grateful that you take the time to capture it and bring us along. Keep up the great work young fella and thanks for sharing.

I would love to live this way and shed all of the modern conveniences. I was 16 the last time i shot a deer and dressed it. You never forget just how incredible that feels. Today we depend too much on businesses fotr everything instead of ourselves. Maybe it's time to revert back a bit to the wild, then perhaps a lot of us will survive what's coming
