Today I take a sled full of gear (food/water/clothes jackets/cooking gear/ and more) into the snow covered forest to accomplish the goal of building a shelter that can protect me so I can survive a night through a winter storm. I started out by cutting some small trees down and tying them with rope to four base trees that will be the pillars of my shelter. I then created a roof structure and covered it with the plastic wrap. I made the roof very sturdy so that it will be protect me form the weight snow in the night. After I finished the roof I began to set up the hammock. I took a little rest sitting in the hammock having some hot tea and enjoying the beauty around me. Shortly after I started to wrap up the walls of the shelter. I went around and around and around to build up the walls. Once I built up the walls to a sturdy thickness I began to cut and make the door. I fashioned the door frame from some sticks and rope using an X for support in the center. I then affixed the door to the shelter with some thin rope to act as hinges so I could swing the door open and close with ease. I then added a little extra wrapping to increase the strength of the shelter. Finally it was built! I was so happy the shelter was now build :D!! I then organize and arrange my gear inside making it my home for the day and night. I also pulled some large logs around the base of the walls on some sides to act as wind and animal barriers. it was now time for some late lunch. Spicy shrimp ramen with a can of salmon it was. I boiled the water and then cooked the noodles and ate it all up yumm! Now it was time for a winter stroll to the pond nearby to see some scenery. It was so beautiful the snow was covering the world around me like a blanket. I enjoyed the footage I managed to get I hope you do as well. Back inside we went there I set up my zippo hand warmer to help me fight the cold. I was visited by a turkey up in a tree. It was cool to see one up in the tree during the day. Shortly after it was dinner time. Some delicious pesto pasta it was. I boiled the water cooked the noodles and mixed in the sauce and it was golden. Such a tasty meal! It was now night time. It was pitch black outside. I decided to go on a little venture to see if I saw anything. Just some beautiful snowy scenes is what I found. It was now time for bed. I crawled in my sleeping bag with me mr.buddy heater on to keep me warm. I was exhausted and ready for sleep form the long days work. I survived the night and went on to make some breakfast. Pancakes it was. Sadly I forgot cooking oil so the pancakes were not what I wanted. luckily I had back up breakfast! After my breakfast it was time to step outside and see how the shelter managed during the snowstorm. It did beautifully! Sadly it was time to pack up my gear and head back. I load up my sled and pull my gear back through the winter wonderland. What a day and night and such a wonderful experience :D. What a blast!
I decided to leave up the fort for now. If it survives the winter I will camp in it again in the summer. If it doesn't make it I will just go back and clean it all up and recycle the plastic.
I hope you enjoyed the journey with me :D
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Keep on keeping on!

You should think about putting a slant on the roof that that way your snow or rain or precipitation will slide off of the roof and not collapse. Also think about making smaller spaces because you'll have less room to heat and therefore you will stay warmer with less effort

Thanks for sharing. It reminded me years ago there was a homeless guy that lived at the edge of a park that we used to walk in the mornings. He had a 'plastic igloo' that was made out of those 2 liter soda bottles. It was pretty well hidden behind the trees and brush, but you could tell someone was living there. We would see him from time to time as he would be out and about looking for food in the garbage cans and such. One day I went back to see how it was built, obviously he wasn't there. He had 3 layers of bottles per wall. Some were tied together but most were cells of like 6 bottles wrapped in rags/blankets/old shirts etc. The roof was single layers of bottles sandwich between layers of fabric and more bottles in between the layers, (old drop cloths, shower curtains, etc.). One day 5 of us were walking and one person suggested maybe we should buy him a tent. I told them that his plastic hut was way warmer and had more protection than he would have in a tent. A tent is built for moving around, the walls are thin pieces of fabric. His structure was layered and 'permanent' in that it would have to be torn apart if you tried to move it to another place.

The higher the "R" Value, the less it bleeds. The lower the "R" Value, the more the heat will be lost. My question was about how well this holds in the heat.

Furry boots possibly for inside the shelter to keep feet warm. Don't sleep or lounge with tight socks or restrictive shoes/boots good blood flow will keep feet warm and dry.

First off, I dig your videos so anything I suggest here comes from a place of wanting your life to be easier.
    1) Learn how to do some good square lashes and Arbor knots, you will use so much less cordage with these and spend less time on tying things off.
    2) Try and keep one side of the roof higher and one lower by a decent amount so you get less downward pressure on your roof from fallen snow or branches. Gives them a good chance to fall off.
    3) Don't rely on butane heaters in snowy conditions, if the gas gets too cold, they won't work.
Aside from that, your videos are really cool and inventive, you're a smart cookie.

Idk how I found this but I liked it 🤣
I lived in my car for like 9 days in college after a rental deal fell through and I had to wait for for a move-in date at another spot but I’m in TN. It was early December and we have crazy weather. So it was raining a lot when I first started sleeping in my car but after a few weeks of rain, we got freezing temps so all the rain that had pooled up turned to ice. That was my third-fifth nights, then we ended up getting 5 inches of snow on day 6, 3 more inches on day 7. I was in an old BMW sedan and I was too prideful to tell my parents my situation so I’d just find a cool place to park, lean my seat back and cover up. I’ve always been weird about sleep stimulation. I’ve loved it since I can remember. I liked being bounced as a toddler, liked shaking my foot in bed. I had a big cedar toy box between my bed and dresser that was under a window in my room and I’d pop the lid off and crawl inside so I could rest my head against the window sill while it rained and I’d sleep there most of, if not all of, the night sometimes. So really, I kinda loved sleeping in my car in that kind of weather. The rain on the car, the wind, the sleet and snow. I also learned that i could get a blanket over my head and mouth breathe for a few minutes and could get a really good toasty vibe, even when it got to -10 outside. Tbh I still do it from time to time 😂 just a cheap, easy way to travel alone sometimes. Hotel rooms charging $150 a night? Or I can just drive up, go see what I’m seeing, start the drive home, pull off somewhere and sleep in the car and get home the next morning 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Last trip I drove over to central Kentucky from central Arkansas I wanted to spend part of a day exploring around. So I tossed a sleeping bag and pillow in my vehicle…after driving 5 hours, I reached Paducah KY and stopped at the Cracker Barrel for supper. Then parked behind the store and read a book until it was about 10 pm. Got out, got my sleeping bag, and crawled in it on the passenger side, moved the seat back as far as it would go and reclined it. Slept nice and toasty with my normal pillow, had a large cotton handkerchief to cover my face and a black beanie on to keep my head warm. Slept well. The next morning went in and had a hardy breakfast at CB, used their restroom and drove the rest of the way over to central KY. Even with the two meals at CB, I saved most of the entire motel cost, so I could eat better! Of course you cannot do this with a lady rider, but when solo, it works well! No need for tv, tent or nuttin else. In colder weather I would have a few of those hand warmers to put on me to keep me warm, but the low that night was only in the low 50s, so any light weight bag would do.

Definitely should've gone with a pitched roof, lean-to style. When you wrapped the roof, you also should've wrapped perpendicular to the support branches instead of parallel for added support. And in the case of a pitched roof and the walls, wrap low to high so anything outside like water will run down and stay out instead of getting inside your shelter.

I've watched other videos and think since you went through so many gas canisters you might consider getting a small wood heater. that you can cook on. Just cut enough wood and you are good to go. If you have to stay you can always cut more. Most feed a pipe up through the ceiling and it works.

I would go with a wood stove rather than changing tanks in the night. You would have to restoke the fire too but maybe not as often depending if you bring a few good pieces of dry hardwood for the nite stretch. It gets pretty cool when the fire goes out at our camp. My cot was closest to the stove, dad got up & got things going in the morning. My siblings were older so I was like an only child for a few years. Now it is hubby and I alone, empty nester. Stay close to the simple things in life, it keeps you close to God our
creator. I love the pallet wrap. I liked the tarp on the ground too, it would keep it a bit less damp. A smaller area would be better to heat.

Great but crude idea. First a tall stick in the center of roof could deflect all falling snow like a house. Second the entry door didn’t have to be cut all the way down but 2-3ft long opening to get in and out would have been fine. The door is required when it’s gonna be used for a ling time to save the house from torn due to heavy use. Still you did give an excellent idea to many aspirants of a night or two in woods in winter! 👍👌
