- Join me on my most intense journey yet as I build a shelter out of plastic wrap (saran wrap/pallet wrap) and spend the night inside through a big snow storm
It was a lot of preparation and planning to make this come true I truly hope you enjoy!

Today I take a sled full of gear (food/water/clothes jackets/cooking gear/ and more) into the snow covered forest to accomplish the goal of building a shelter that can protect me so I can survive a night through a winter storm. I started out by cutting some small trees down and tying them with rope to four base trees that will be the pillars of my shelter. I then created a roof structure and covered it with the plastic wrap. I made the roof very sturdy so that it will be protect me form the weight snow in the night. After I finished the roof I began to set up the hammock. I took a little rest sitting in the hammock having some hot tea and enjoying the beauty around me. Shortly after I started to wrap up the walls of the shelter. I went around and around and around to build up the walls. Once I built up the walls to a sturdy thickness I began to cut and make the door. I fashioned the door frame from some sticks and rope using an X for support in the center. I then affixed the door to the shelter with some thin rope to act as hinges so I could swing the door open and close with ease. I then added a little extra wrapping to increase the strength of the shelter. Finally it was built! I was so happy the shelter was now build :D!! I then organize and arrange my gear inside making it my home for the day and night. I also pulled some large logs around the base of the walls on some sides to act as wind and animal barriers. it was now time for some late lunch. Spicy shrimp ramen with a can of salmon it was. I boiled the water and then cooked the noodles and ate it all up yumm! Now it was time for a winter stroll to the pond nearby to see some scenery. It was so beautiful the snow was covering the world around me like a blanket. I enjoyed the footage I managed to get I hope you do as well. Back inside we went there I set up my zippo hand warmer to help me fight the cold. I was visited by a turkey up in a tree. It was cool to see one up in the tree during the day. Shortly after it was dinner time. Some delicious pesto pasta it was. I boiled the water cooked the noodles and mixed in the sauce and it was golden. Such a tasty meal! It was now night time. It was pitch black outside. I decided to go on a little venture to see if I saw anything. Just some beautiful snowy scenes is what I found. It was now time for bed. I crawled in my sleeping bag with me mr.buddy heater on to keep me warm. I was exhausted and ready for sleep form the long days work. I survived the night and went on to make some breakfast. Pancakes it was. Sadly I forgot cooking oil so the pancakes were not what I wanted. luckily I had back up breakfast! After my breakfast it was time to step outside and see how the shelter managed during the snowstorm. It did beautifully! Sadly it was time to pack up my gear and head back. I load up my sled and pull my gear back through the winter wonderland. What a day and night and such a wonderful experience :D. What a blast!
I decided to leave up the fort for now. If it survives the winter I will camp in it again in the summer. If it doesn't make it I will just go back and clean it all up and recycle the plastic.
I hope you enjoyed the journey with me :D
Thanks for stopping by!

Snow on roof helps to keep the heat in. Those little bottles are expensive to use. Why not use a 20lb bottle?
wtf !!
your clothing must be black or and white !!
and 12 gauge shotgun on the back !!
Did u seriously leave that plastic out there in the animals' habitat?!??
😂😂😂😂😂
I wonder if a bear would think “Isn’t that nice, someone wrapped a burrito in plastic to keep it fresh!”
I hope not lol
Woundnt a Bear Be Hibernating?
I doubt it
You crack me up🤣
🤣😂🤣
You should think about putting a slant on the roof that that way your snow or rain or precipitation will slide off of the roof and not collapse. Also think about making smaller spaces because you'll have less room to heat and therefore you will stay warmer with less effort
Or just stay home and not waste energy & time and wasting all that non recycled cling film
@@christophermee5214 If you don't like it why throw water on it? Just move along. A little further down in the comments someone said he should keep it up to see how long it would last and he said that someone came along and destroyed it. Was that you?
@@christophermee5214 Btw, did you not hear him say that he had made sure it was recyclable?
It’s completely irrelevant to people like Christopher who will spread his negative crap everywhere he goes. Great video 👍
@@shanebrennan144 love your comment. His next video is even worse. Same location but a cardboard shelter. When is he going to do a brick shelter then it will be like the 3 little pigs story
As someone who has never even seen real snow this kind of thing is fascinating.
Wild you have never seen snow. I hope you can one day! Its beautiful when there is a fresh layer on everything its like another world.
Where you from shiny?
I love it
Its really like another world
Over 2 million view's in just a year ? Your channel is definitely on fire. Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to more video's ❤
Once one knows they're not going to die from it, there's nothing so beautiful as the aftermath of a blizzard--everything is covered with clean snow and the muffled silence is amazing.
Can't agree more, there such a beauty to the silence, only broken by the trees speaking with creaks
Absolutely! ❤
YES!
meanwhile reality: not being able to go anywhere or go to work yet still having bills to pay. blizzards and snow sucks.
@@thelonercoder5816 But our home’s are so still standing.
not devastated as in the aftermath of a hurricane or a tornado.
financially I would rather face a snowstorm/blizzard, any day.
The snow covered trees are so pretty. Like a painting.
Nice job, but would have wanted to see the inside temperature with a thermometer, in contrast to to the outside temperature,to see how well this insulates, as an experiment.
Exactly my question... Guess no big difference of just a couple of degrees... ☃️❄️☃️
@@parvaji I think he missed the point of these vids
Seran wrap, well heavy duty pallet wrap is actually really good at insulating. So having a constant heat source going on in there would be enough to make it comfortable with a sleeping bag and long sleeves.
You couldn't go shirtless or anything, but you wouldn't need to be entirely bundled up either.
My uncle made a portable fireplace and creates a tent out of plastic and it works great.... the plastic he uses is a lot heaver duty though.
And since we use a fire place you only need to restock it once a night, instead of going though 4+ bottles of gas.
Was going to ask the same question. Was it comfortable? Was it just as cold? Was it just "okay"
this may be the perfect youtube channel. well done, nerd.
:D Thanks! - Cheers!
The "Oh yeah" into the instant "Oh no" got me wretching. I appreciate your respect to nature. You cleaned up your shelter, and you had back up breakfast. It's very easy for things to go wrong, so your preparedness helps to make us take you seriously - in a good way.
Thanks for sharing. It reminded me years ago there was a homeless guy that lived at the edge of a park that we used to walk in the mornings. He had a 'plastic igloo' that was made out of those 2 liter soda bottles. It was pretty well hidden behind the trees and brush, but you could tell someone was living there. We would see him from time to time as he would be out and about looking for food in the garbage cans and such. One day I went back to see how it was built, obviously he wasn't there. He had 3 layers of bottles per wall. Some were tied together but most were cells of like 6 bottles wrapped in rags/blankets/old shirts etc. The roof was single layers of bottles sandwich between layers of fabric and more bottles in between the layers, (old drop cloths, shower curtains, etc.). One day 5 of us were walking and one person suggested maybe we should buy him a tent. I told them that his plastic hut was way warmer and had more protection than he would have in a tent. A tent is built for moving around, the walls are thin pieces of fabric. His structure was layered and 'permanent' in that it would have to be torn apart if you tried to move it to another place.
After witnessing that, people shouldn't call homeless people without homes nor not smart. He clearly made himself a home, not sure about it being nice but clearly a smart thing to do about the harsh winter.
Job application would have been better way to help
You should look into Hobo cryptology and culture.
@@rustytv3023 The problem is that jobs need a physical address to mail checks and w-2 stuff to and they cannot accept P.O. boxes which is more annoying.

I wish I would have seen this video when I was homeless being a woman out there alone not knowing anything wow thank you for your video if ever I'm ever thrown out and elements again I know how to survive because of your video God bless you 🙏😁
Ramen on a cold day. Perfection. Nice burner. Never saw one that big. That snow is fine and beautiful. The trees are so lovely. Nice time to build a see through tent!
There's plenty to criticize here and some sketchy decisions, but at some point I decided I really admire your spirit. You remind me of myself when I was young and you have a good sense of humor. The fact that you just get out there and do stuff without really planning too much is admirable. Keep it up man!
You gotta have fun with it :D I'm glad you enjoyed
I like the part where he doesn't measure, :>)
I am curious, what is there to criticize? I thought this was the craziest most incredible idea ever.
Imagine at night you hear demonic screams and chattering coming from the edge where your light ends and the woods begin.
Dude has some balls not going out there with no gun
@@canaryinacoalmine7267 the space is a bit large. Smaller=heat. The roof could be slanted to discourage weight build up. That door is HUGE and drafty. Hammock is a bold choice. Propane heat in a plastic bubble is risky on many levels. Ramen is unhealthy (I mean, we all know this, but he's right. It's SO good...)
'And after he had trapped and skinned enough Sarans, he made himself a durable shelter." :) I really enjoyed watching you do this. I hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourself. You are right about how beautiful the snowy scene was. The best way to be in complete silence is in a gentle snowfall.
It as a blast a lot of work but fun and totally would do it again :D it was beautiful during the snow
You generate alot of plastic waste that really harms the earth. Why not get a normal tent??
@@jeffjohnson5053 you said he generated plastic waste. He might have recycled it how do you know? I wonder if hospitals recycle plastic waste (plastic tubing) used one time or do they just send it to the dump? How about those people that buy cases of water and sugar drinks in bottles 7-Eleven sells countless plastic bottles what about those people? I see those bottles all over the ground.
@@LuckyGuu Hospitals do not recycle plastic. I worked for a dental office. All the needles and bio hazzards get burned at ovens. As for 7-11 plastic bottles, they do NOT, 80 percent of plastic bottle do not get recyceled. And you should NOT add to the plastic of the world by making useless shelters with plastic wraps. That is very stupid!!
@@jeffjohnson5053 it doesn't really compare at all two people have I seen making shelters out of shrink wrap compared to millions and millions of bottles. However if you do make a shelter from shrink wrap you should leave it up for as long as it is still good. Nobody ever says much about China and India producing so much plastic and destroying the environment. I'm glad to know medical waste is getting burned now does that create another hazard or do they filter the smoke?
The sound of the snow on the plastic is so nice. I love it ❤
A nice sound to fall asleep with !
Good to know that in the event I’m stranded in the snowy wilderness with nothing but plastic wrap, I will be able to survive a snowstorm.
Yes, but who travels with many many roles of plastic wrap...😮
Put a heater inside and you'll be shrink wrapped.🙃
The snow crackling noise is so satisfying
I spent a week in such a shelter when I was a teen.
I found a downed tree that made a nice frame for the plastic tarp to wrap around. and I put cattail stalks as flooring, and insulation between the lower branches, it slept well!
Tea and pancakes. Love how you appreciate each different adventure!
Damn! If only I would have had 10,000 feet of Saran Wrap the last time I was stranded in a snowstorm in the middle of the forest.😂
It would have been interesting to measure the inside temperature vs the outside temperature. I'm wondering how much heat your shelter could trap.
hardly any, did you see how much propane he went through? plastic wrap doesn't have a great r value
@@HellyeahRook A youtuber from Poland (Bushcraftowy) made a video with similar concept, but it was 1 big plastic sheet instead + he had "NLC FOIL?" (Not sure if i got this name right) to reflect heat on back his from campfire which was in front).
Outside he had negative 4.7 C, inside he had 18,2 C. So 22 Celsius diffrence, but he had fire like 1 m from that "consutrcion". (Ofc bigger fire = bigger diffrence)
Overall you are right, it isn't great value, but having few C, especially without any heated (protection from wind) is already big, having any kind of heat source would only increase that diffrence ^^. Even that guy said so, that as emergency, it's better to have such thing than nothing :D
@GmanGaming422 I guess you don't understand about insulation and "R" Values. Nothing holds all the heat, because some heat is going to be lost as it bleeds through any insulation. The higher the "R" Value, the less it bleeds. The lower the "R" Value, the more the heat will be lost. My question was about how well this holds in the heat.
what about doing a double wall?
I can't imagine it makes a huge difference
I never thought a plastic wrap shelter would be possible in that kind of a weather
Got me all hyped for some reason
@Billy The Soiled Pantie Sniffer if i had to guess id say you were 40+ years old am i righ
Buy a tent!
Do not do this. The amount of non-reuseable plastic waste is horrific.
If you love your country's wilderness, don't do this.
@@peterclarke7240 He literally said he was going to recycle the Saran Wrap.. youre fighting the wrong person. Harass the companies who cause the majority of plastic waste, pollution, deforestation, and extinction all in exchange for the almighty dollar.
@@supreme_hime You might want to do some research into the amount of plastic that gets sent to be recycled actually gets recycled. Most of it isn't cost-effective any more, so it still gets dumped.
Also, all recycling does is reduce the need for new plastic to be made. While it's great, NOT using single-use plastic in the first place is far more sensible. Everybody should be doing their bit, particularly people who enjoy being outdoors in nature. It's called paying it forward.
Why not ? !!!!! So nice to act upon an idea minus tons of thought and without being unmercifully over critiqued until it's shelved ! What a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment! Simple pure FUN !❤️❗
Insulate the walls by wrapping once, then laying poles against the walls and then wrap again. Creates a gap that traps air.
Notes: bring temp checking equipment. 5 or 10 mylar blankets, add to the walls to reflect your heat inwards. Clean snow off the floor before you lay the tarp down. Your feet will appreciate it. Furry boots possibly for inside the shelter to keep feet warm. Don't sleep or lounge with tight socks or restrictive shoes/boots good blood flow will keep feet warm and dry.
Suggestion on door. Make it 2/3 your height, and barely wide for your body. That will minimize drafts and heat loss. If your shelter holds a warm pocket of air inside, dry gloves and socks up in it away from the floor.
He made it the way he wanted to. When your out there u do it the way u want too.
I'm binging your vids, and with this one, just a thought: At the Walmart there is twine in the fishing section (black or white in the catfishing supplies, bottom shelf) - called bank line. You can get it in any poundage of strength you want and is much easier to use and carry on your trips. The stuff is made for adventuring to be honest and is a great way to secure a shelter.
Lol all of that plastic wrap hugs the trees nicely.
This was a great structure. Using minimum tools and supplies. One never knows when you might have to use this to survive. Homelessness is real in this country
I think you díd a great job, it turned out really good. I would be proud too, I don't blame you! Oh the scenery is so beautiful, it's so quiet, peaceful and serene out there. God can make some really awesome things, can't He! Amazing!!!
Thanks for the kind words :D!
@Quiet Nerd
The roof, have it slanted. Then from the bottom going to the top, wrap. This creates a sort overlapping shingle to guide water down and not into the structure. If you have cardboard, maybe with taped on reflectics, you can make the walls batter insulated.
This is very clever. Just pack a roll of that packing wrap on a snow mobile or other outing and in an emergency a shelter can be made in short order. Nice job.
I remember the first time I saw a turkey in a tree, i was pretty freaked out lol.
First off, I dig your videos so anything I suggest here comes from a place of wanting your life to be easier.
1) Learn how to do some good square lashes and Arbor knots, you will use so much less cordage with these and spend less time on tying things off.
2) Try and keep one side of the roof higher and one lower by a decent amount so you get less downward pressure on your roof from fallen snow or branches. Gives them a good chance to fall off.
3) Don't rely on butane heaters in snowy conditions, if the gas gets too cold, they won't work.
Aside from that, your videos are really cool and inventive, you're a smart cookie.
Stopping by woods on a snowy evening. Beautiful
Thanks!

I've only seen snow for 4 days in 61 years, I can't imagine what that sort of environment is really like. Thanks for giving me an insight.

I use that stuff so much at work that I would either, make a shelter that will survive the next ice age or breakdown in tears because I have to touch that stuff for one more time.
I love love love the sound the snow makes on the wrap!! magical....
I was really concerned about the roof. With the weight of snow I could imagine it collapsing as there were some pretty large areas between your 'rafters' that had no support. But, all was well and you seemed to enjoy your night. Good luck in your future adventures!
Your be surprised by how strong that stuff is!
I was really concerned he would suffocate. He built a big plastic thing and went to sleep in it.
You know, there is a self adhesive zipper door that you can get at Lowes. Its for single layer of plastic.
Hopefully all the bears are fast asleep and that turkey doesn't land on your roof. Fun fort!
Last time I got caught out in the wilderness prior to a major blizzard, I thought, thank God I've got a couple of rolls of cling film with me. The problem was that I was above the tree line.

Wonderful night in the snowy woods. Thank you!
I could watch three hours of just being pulled along. Made me so sleepy. Felt like a little kid in a sled
Great job!
Thanks!
The “big rope” at 6:49 caught me off-guard 😂
My anxiety was through the roof with that heater in there and the stove ngl. Saran wrap and heat are usually not a good combination, I'm very glad things went well for you! Innovation is what keeps people alive, and it's good to have fun too!

Love it! I absolutely do not want to do this. BUT! It would be so cool having him for a friend.
I have done a lot of camping.....BUT, this is one of the neatest things I have ever seen. Tent/shelter in a roll! There are SO many ways to do this. What a wonderful and cheap and neato ways to be "out there". Damn, this is great! Thank you.
The popping on the microphone from the snow hitting it made me fall asleep.
Great video.
It’s so beautiful. I’ve never seen snow so I’m in awe watching this. 😊
Idk how I found this but I liked it 🤣
I lived in my car for like 9 days in college after a rental deal fell through and I had to wait for for a move-in date at another spot but I’m in TN. It was early December and we have crazy weather. So it was raining a lot when I first started sleeping in my car but after a few weeks of rain, we got freezing temps so all the rain that had pooled up turned to ice. That was my third-fifth nights, then we ended up getting 5 inches of snow on day 6, 3 more inches on day 7. I was in an old BMW sedan and I was too prideful to tell my parents my situation so I’d just find a cool place to park, lean my seat back and cover up. I’ve always been weird about sleep stimulation. I’ve loved it since I can remember. I liked being bounced as a toddler, liked shaking my foot in bed. I had a big cedar toy box between my bed and dresser that was under a window in my room and I’d pop the lid off and crawl inside so I could rest my head against the window sill while it rained and I’d sleep there most of, if not all of, the night sometimes. So really, I kinda loved sleeping in my car in that kind of weather. The rain on the car, the wind, the sleet and snow. I also learned that i could get a blanket over my head and mouth breathe for a few minutes and could get a really good toasty vibe, even when it got to -10 outside. Tbh I still do it from time to time 😂 just a cheap, easy way to travel alone sometimes. Hotel rooms charging $150 a night? Or I can just drive up, go see what I’m seeing, start the drive home, pull off somewhere and sleep in the car and get home the next morning 🤷🏻♂️😂
Save up for a small RV if that's your thing
@@outaouaishockey Eh. Those feel boaty and need special accommodations to store at home. My car is my car 24/7 but can double as a camper whenever I need it. No special accommodations needed and they’re not clumsy to drive.
Last trip I drove over to central Kentucky from central Arkansas I wanted to spend part of a day exploring around. So I tossed a sleeping bag and pillow in my vehicle…after driving 5 hours, I reached Paducah KY and stopped at the Cracker Barrel for supper. Then parked behind the store and read a book until it was about 10 pm. Got out, got my sleeping bag, and crawled in it on the passenger side, moved the seat back as far as it would go and reclined it. Slept nice and toasty with my normal pillow, had a large cotton handkerchief to cover my face and a black beanie on to keep my head warm. Slept well. The next morning went in and had a hardy breakfast at CB, used their restroom and drove the rest of the way over to central KY. Even with the two meals at CB, I saved most of the entire motel cost, so I could eat better! Of course you cannot do this with a lady rider, but when solo, it works well! No need for tv, tent or nuttin else. In colder weather I would have a few of those hand warmers to put on me to keep me warm, but the low that night was only in the low 50s, so any light weight bag would do.
Simple life, lots of meaning. Great video. People with lots of money can't buy happiness like this.
Snow is beautiful, just as long as I’m inside nice and warm.
That was fun, educational & very cool. You did an amazing job ! I have one of those little heaters in my she shed & they work great.
Thank you! yea the heater really saved me that night worked like a charm
Oh man I'm face palming so hard right now! I was a hitchhiker and trail hiker for years and I can't tell you how many times I froze my ass because I could only Cary a couple tarps in my bag. A roll of friggin cling wrap!? I can't believe I never saw this before. Dude, your awesome.
Ok when I go tent camping I take a 12x12 pop up tent and then put a 8x8 pop up tent inside the 12x12! Works great! You need to look for the place where once you have made the first structure you can build a second around that one!
I really enjoy your camping adventures 🏕️
As a camping video, Brilliant, never seen anyone do anything like that, well done!
Definitely should've gone with a pitched roof, lean-to style. When you wrapped the roof, you also should've wrapped perpendicular to the support branches instead of parallel for added support. And in the case of a pitched roof and the walls, wrap low to high so anything outside like water will run down and stay out instead of getting inside your shelter.
Who knew the world was full of Saran Wrap experts? Huh …
@@3leon306 got nothing to do with wrap of any kind. It's basic shelter building.

I've watched other videos and think since you went through so many gas canisters you might consider getting a small wood heater. that you can cook on. Just cut enough wood and you are good to go. If you have to stay you can always cut more. Most feed a pipe up through the ceiling and it works.
Yea that would be a smart investment for me to get. I just got the little heater and I feel i have to get my use out of it lol but it burns though cans on cold nights for sure.
Absolutely my favorite video ever! I love snow so much!
That double layer on the roof created by the plastic wrapping around will help with keeping it insulated. You should have put a 2nd layer around the outside, with a couple sticks inside to keep an air gap.
Good times and breathtaking bud. And you gave the wildlife a human aquarium to look at for a bit. Great times had by all.

So cool. I got that same heater. Works great. That is cool to see this can be done.. looks nice and cozy
That was a cool and efficient shelter, and the environment made it all worth while.. amazing

I would go with a wood stove rather than changing tanks in the night. You would have to restoke the fire too but maybe not as often depending if you bring a few good pieces of dry hardwood for the nite stretch. It gets pretty cool when the fire goes out at our camp. My cot was closest to the stove, dad got up & got things going in the morning. My siblings were older so I was like an only child for a few years. Now it is hubby and I alone, empty nester. Stay close to the simple things in life, it keeps you close to God our
creator. I love the pallet wrap. I liked the tarp on the ground too, it would keep it a bit less damp. A smaller area would be better to heat.
Amazingly cool !!!!

Well concealed. I would add some crossmembers around the walls for added support and a bit of security. Cool thing about the wrap shelters are they are easy to vent and a canvas tarp with a stove jack. Bring a small portable wood stove for longer excursions.

I was thinking don't take it down. See how long it lasts! Use it again maybe. So glad you are doing that. Great video.
Sadly I had to take it down about a week later someone came by and destroyed it :C oh well on to the next shelter!
People don't respect anything or anyone. That's sad. If I found a neat place in the woods I would take a break in it for a little and then leave it the way I found it. I guess not many feel that way.

This is incredible! Please make more videos like this!
Top work, you’re a brave man in that coldness. Thanks for an entertaining video.
Brave?
Absolutely Brilliant..love this video😍
:D thanks I'm glad you loved it!
Great but crude idea. First a tall stick in the center of roof could deflect all falling snow like a house. Second the entry door didn’t have to be cut all the way down but 2-3ft long opening to get in and out would have been fine. The door is required when it’s gonna be used for a ling time to save the house from torn due to heavy use. Still you did give an excellent idea to many aspirants of a night or two in woods in winter! 👍👌
