  • Smokey Robinson wrote the No. 1 hit "My Guy" for singer Mary Wells during her short but storied career at Motown Records. It all started when Wells was a teenager. She met Motown CEO Berry Gordy at a nightclub and tried to pitch him a song she had written for another artist. That song - "Bye Bye Baby" - would become her own debut and her first hit single at Motown. Shortly after, she teamed up with Robinson, who wrote her a number of Calypso-inspired tunes fashioned after the style and sound of Robinson's pal Harry Belafonte. In 1964, they struck gold with what would become Wells' signature song, the world-famous hit "My Guy." It was their last collaboration. A year later, Wells left Motown and signed with 20th Century Fox. Here's the full story behind the Smokey Robinson lyrics for "My Guy."

I have a wonderful collection of vinyl from the late 50's to the early 70's. My taste in music is large and Mowtown is among my favorite. The incredible talent of Mary Wells could not fail with the musical genius of Smokey Robinson behind her album. Smokey Robinson is a truly inspirational talented person.

All and any hopes that we would renew our AARP memberships were eliminated when we opened our mailbox to find a cute and cuddly cover of Matt McConaughey on AARP's latest magazine. We are sick and tired of AARP using the resources to which we modestly contribute to further their political agendas. It started with Obamacare and AARP's desire to sponsor more health care plans and has continued apace with frequent free advertising for anti-conservative or blatantly liberal politicians and policies. Please just go away.
