    I think the right way of looking at education is that going to college is not about learning stuff, but instead it's about building your ability to start a career in the future. You can either finish college or drop out when you're ready to start a career. If you don't have a college degree, and still want to get a job that requires college degree, you have to prove your ability to use the professional skills to build a professional project.

    I had ADD and hardly remembered anything from school. I rarely heard what the teacher was saying and rarely knew what was going on the with the assignments. Then, I got interested in theology. I got a bachelors in philosophy, a masters in theology, and a master of arts in biblical exegesis. I then went on to start a completely new career in software.
    I find what Elon is saying to be completely true. I got almost nothing educationally from school until I had questions I wanted to answer. Then, school was just a platform for what I already wanted to learn. I learned a lot about how to learn, but I often wonder whether it was worth the time and debt. The most foundational thing has been a hunger for knowledge and increasing zeal for how to deeply attain it.
    Far more important have been development of discipline and habits of skill acquisition. But I could have probably learned that from something like martial arts just as easily as grad school.

      Yes, I agree so much with your last point, I've always said to myself, one of the biggest things I learned in college is how to push myself to solve problems myself.

      @@ved_ituas Which is such a valuable lesson! The question I keep asking myself is, "Do we have to get in debt to learn that?" But I can't take back that that is the path I took to learn the lesson and continue to move forward with what I've learn.

    Key insights
    📚 Everything is available for free, you don't need college to learn stuff.
    🎮 Education should be as close to a video game as possible to make it interactive and engaging, like a good video game.
    💡 Traditional teaching methods may not be as effective as personalized learning tailored to individual interests and pace of progress.
    📚 Musk created a small school called Ad Astra with a unique approach to education, focusing on individualized learning without grades.
    🧠 It's important to teach problem solving or teach to the problem, not to the tools.
    🛠️ Learning by taking things apart and understanding their components is a much better method than just being told how to do it.
    🧠 "The more you can gamify the process of learning the better."

    I was fascinated by how Musk uses a method of breaking complex topics into fundamental principles and building understanding from the ground up felt revolutionary yet intuitive. Watching the video I realized that this approach allows for deep comprehension rather than surface-level knowledge. Musk’s ability to connect ideas across different fields, from physics to business, showcased how learning isn’t confined to one domain but thrives on interdisciplinary thinking. What stood out to me was his belief in questioning assumptions and seeking first-principle solutions a mindset that encourages creativity and innovation. The video inspired me to rethink how I approach learning, motivating me to focus on mastering foundational concepts and applying them broadly rather than just memorizing facts. It was a valuable lesson in how curiosity and critical thinking can lead to groundbreaking ideas.

    While learning materials are available to anyone, the structure that a college gives you in conjunction with solid learning resources for said topic is a more efficient system than self learning. Not only that, in college you study subjects outside of your typical area of focus which is essential for cultivating well-rounded citizens. College is definitely way more expensive than it should be, but it’s by no means a waste of time or money, if your goal is to be a good citizen, parent, neighbor etc.

    • @nathang2465
      @nathang2465 2 місяці тому

      The fact you think like this shows how well they indoctrinated you. High quality learning material is everywhere for most of the major fields. If you want to be well rounded pick up books and join clubs to socialize. You don’t need to go to college to be a good citizen or neighbor. That is ridiculous.

    • @McGonagallsowl
      @McGonagallsowl 4 дні тому

      Being a good citizen, neighbour etc, is it the primary goal to go to college? College does teach us to mingle in society and serve the knowledge on plate in an organised way, but self studying through books and materials you selected by ourselves doesn't limit ur knowledge and u can learn anything anyway I want. But self teaching is high risk high reward. U should have discipline and then undying curiosity. Unis are the safe path with a guarantee for the future. Self teaching isn't foreign everyone

    I love the idea of parents taking charge of their kids education when it means they are taking charge to help students get the best, to get what kids need. But i hate this taking charge when they’re ignoring some of the intangibles that school brings which fall into blind spots of parents. I’m all for more STEM focus given the world we now live in & what the future looks like from our vantage point today. While i haven’t seen the whole curriculum, STEM is not everything. Critical thinking skills are a #1 skill students snd adults MUST have going forward. But along with critical thinking skills, people MUST have some knowledge of things like how governments work according to organization, mission or constitution or charter etc, rights, monarchy vs democracy vs regimes or any permutations possible, laws, rules, enforcements, need for standing armies …. You get the point. I think its critical that knowledge of all sorts is absolutely necessary part of applying critical thinking but along with knowkedge there exists the issue of debate: the pro & con look at anything & everything to decide your right thing to do. Oh and the open discussions of intangibles like right vs might, fairness, justice, humane vs animalistic, beliefs vs facts vs gossip vs etc and kids should get to discuss love, like, hate, compassion, etc. church attendance being low & lower all the time plus too busy parents so where do kids today learn about morality issues? Such discussions need not be about religious affiliation but about the ideas embodied because everyone is free to chose for themselves but kids need introductions to what’s possible in this big world. Kids will be kids and will make many many choices as they grow up but it’s up to the adults to prepare kids to become the best people they can be! Too many kids today have not had the advantages ive had in my loving family with parents who believed success is linked to not only education but also to your character.
    I love your school (ive been in education in one way or another my whole life) but i also know that the character of every significant person in a persons life plays a part in development. The larger community cannot always stop bad actors but lets prepare kids to better handle everything life throws at them and also prepare them for their life-long further study, their numerous & various relationships and the joy of occupations that challenge. We must have schools that are allowed to teach the amazing variety in lives today but not to push anything other than critical thinking, learn everything you can/need to make decisions, and try to be better than the day before. But if you don’t succeed, apologize where you must and carry on in lovingkindness.

    University is good for majority of the students. But if you have an exceptional learning talent, it may be uncessary for you. Because it is true that all of the stuff and more is available in books and online courses. But in university you learn which stuff is more important. And there are other people you can learn from in the universities.
    Instructors tell you the same stuff in high raking and low ranking universities. But you can benefit more in a high ranking university since your intstructor would probably have a really good background and teaches you how to approach to the problems, how to think and how to reach to the solution. It is more than just telling solution.

    The problem with his line of thinking is that it's too heavily based on his own experience. If somebody couldn't succeed in college it doesn't necessarily mean that they couldn't still succeed in life, but for most college failures it's also a reality that if they couldn't do well in college they weren't going to suddenly become the most dedicated labor worker. 18-21 is a time of transition for most people. If they lack a sense of direction and a sense of drive, college can teach a good general basis of learning to meet objectives, work daily towards those objectives, and receive constructive criticism along the way to better achieve their objectives. People can learn through self driven motives, discipline, and vast amount of public available information of resources, but they first need the skills to take a wealth of information and leverage it towards completing achievements. If they already have that trait college is not relevant, but that % of people is very very very slim. The better course of direction for the general population is to complete high school and attend college or at least attend a trade school to learn basic units of disciplined learning.

    I have a more complete approach than Elon Musk, which doesn't go beyond his stage of complexity, which seems limited to elementary school.
    I think that the learning of “means” or “material” in each chapter should conclude with the culmination of a larger, dedicated project that takes each “means” in its entirety, thus retaining the principle of relevance that is, in my view, the essential thing missing from the school, and allowing variable uses to be explored outside the overall project while retaining an idea of imagined relevance.

    Tesla stock dipped severally , resulting to about 23% drop in the shares value this month. I seriously need suggestions on how to diversify my $400k portfolio made up of volatile TSLA.

      Investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. I've learned this from my own experience.If you're new to investing or don't have much time, it's best to get advice from an expert.

      A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsor until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.

      How can one find a verifiable financial planner? I would not mind looking up the professional that helped you. I will be retiring in two years and I might need some management on my much larger portfolio. Don't want to take any chances.

    Here is my issue, will you hire someone that has Indepth knowledge of a certain subject that they studied for, or are you willing to hire someone because they learned from a UA-cam video/videos?
    I am indeed ever grateful to all the uploads that UA-cam have or their platform, but I rather pay for my education as you get what you pay for.

    He is absolutely right ✅️ At universities students are taught different subjects, which do not have anything in common. Teachers are people, who don't know anything despite their subject, so what they could teach pupils???? How to solve differential equations for all their life like the teacher does?! That's stupid. First thing universities have to teach is problem solving skill

    I love that rich people who grew up extremely wealthy and have never faced hardship always say “you don’t need an education.” How exactly does that work for the country? We are already a country of uneducated people on the verge of poverty.
    I’m sure from his perspective, the work of his employees is his success. He just ignores the fact that the people who work for him went to university and have a significant impact on what his companies achieve. Innovation is not not necessarily learned but the majority of engineers do need to go to school to have the proper education and experience. Maybe this is why the cybertruck was so flawed.
