What’s interesting is soft resetting for starters or legendaries is that the first starter you get and the box art legendaries tend to be shiny locked now. But that definitely wasn’t always the case.
My personal favorite is one that you didn't even mention: Ultra Wormhole hunting from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Shiny Charm included, your shiny odds for getting as far as you can in the mini game go from the base chance to a whopping ONE IN THREE. And that includes the Legendary Pokemon and Ultra Beasts found there. And the odds stay even after a soft reset. As for the static encounters like Lombre, Altaria, etc. If those aren't shiny you just have to redo the mini game again. But I actually enjoyed the minigame. XD

One of the best Shiny Hunting Methods, and one I'm surprised you didn't mention, is Ultra Warp Ride from USUM. That place, even without the Shiny Charm, is an absolute Gold Mine of shinies, with some of the most ridiculous boosted odds ever. Besides, it's such a fun minigame!
In some ways, outbreak hunting in Paldea is my favorite and least favorite. It's fun, but even with sandwiches and the shiny charm I have just absolutely terrible luck with it. I have never seen any shiny spawn in area zero despite how much I've hunted most of the paradox forms.
It’s definitely consistent overall but can be really hit and miss at times. Sometimes I can get a shiny just arriving at the outbreak with 0 KOs, sometimes get one midway through getting 60 KOs, and then sometimes knock 60 out and take a long ass time after that even with the picnic method
The only method I haven't gotten successful with is the Masuda method. I've hatched 2K eggs trying to get a specific shiny with no luck. I just wanted a cool Pokémon but instead I was tediously making my character run in circles
pretty sure the sword and shield mass catch method is utter trash because it is broken, its supposed to increase the odds by a decent amount but only raises it like 0.2% for catching or beating 500+ pokemon
I remember some of the cool things about SOS hunting, that was where I started shiny hunting a lot more often. Like, how in USUM, they changed it so that only the original calls out for help, so that you wouldn't get situations where a shiny would just keep calling for help. And how Skill Swap Exeggutor was actually super useful, because you could give the Pokémon Harvest and a Leppa Berry so that you wouldn't have any PP problems. I remember it quite fondly as a mechanic.
My favorite is the Poké Radar in Pokemon X, never failled when I did it right. The whole thing consists in going to pokemon village, with a bunch of repels, find the pokemon you want to shiny hunt and then use the radar to keep finding it in chain, until you hit the 40th. The 40th one you find will be shiny guaranteed. But since there are some rules such as, you can't equip the roller skaters when doing it and it must be in a grass patch that allows you to walk on it without touching the border grasses ('cuz if you touch them, the chain breaks), it limits its aplication not specifically to pokemon village, but it makes it the best place to execute the strat.
I just got a shiny alpha gligar from soft resetting today, been trundling away at it since before ScaVi came out. 889 resets. Was so excited I forgot to take a screen recording of the encounter until 15 minutes later lol. Good method for when you want to watch movies etc and I’d take it over the dynamax adventures only because those things take way to long for MAYBE one encounter assuming you successfully take down the legendary if the npcs don’t faint too many times
I remember in ORAS I wanted to horde hunt for shiny Sableye. Ended up getting two Zubat and an Aaron before… another Zubat horde showed up, but this time with TWO SHINY ZUBAT. Guys when people tell you that too much of a good thing is a bad thing they aren’t kidding. Sat on the screen of the last two Zubat for like an hour before finally knocking out one, catching the other and deciding that shiny Sableye wasn’t worth that type of heartache
That's not how Catch Combo's work in Let's Go- Anubis discovered that it was being implemented incorrectly and that you have to keep catching to continue that shiny boost
Pretty much all of my shiny Pokémon have been full odds… my first one was in emerald, and it was a shiny wurmple. Literally the first one I ever ran into, and I just thought they came in purple. Caught it and then I caught the second one which was the standard color. I never questioned why I didn’t run into a purple one ever again until years later. She eventually evolved into a Dustox that I have still to this day. Her name is Lulu.
I absolutely hated SOS battles in SM. Specifically because Politoed, an otherwise trade-dependent evo, could only be encountered in an SOS battle with Poliwhirl while raining. Having to catch one for the dex is easily my worst memory from Moon.
IIRC gen 8's random encounters method didn't even work, there was a bug in the code preventing the shiny increase from actually happening. So it's not only a boring and tedious method, it's not even functional.
When I played Pokémon Moon and started to complete the Pokedex, I use the SOS method to get a Snorlax and instead of that I got a shiny Munchlax... that was my first shiny... then the file got corrupted and had to restart it. 😂
How can you shiny hunt in Colosseum? Wasn't it like an urban legend that you could even get shiny Pokemon in the 3D side games until a streamer did it on camera a few years ago?
Its possible, just agonizing. Having to save at the PC rather than anywhere, having to fight the NPC trainer, and still having to catch the Pokemon that will not "appear" shiny. But may be shiny upon capture. All must be done the first time that trainer is encountered. Even with how annoying Poké Radar is... Colosseum hunts take that cake imo.
@@kenshiizumi2770 Poke Radar isn't annoying in BDSP, only in Platinum and X/Y. Trust me, I've done both versions of the Poke Radar. The one in X/Y is super hard, and the one in BDSP is super easy and the best shiny hunting method in existence.
Mine was PLA horde hunting. It was the first time I was actually able to really feel like I was making some progress. Plus the little sound and animation made life so much easier. I wish they had kept that for Scarlett and Violet
My favourite method of shiny hunting was the breeding mechanics in SM/USUM. Being able to sniff out which Pokémon was going to be shiny by breeding Magikarps as well as IVs, gender, and abilities just made it the best gen for breeding IMO.
Horde hunting until you encounter two shinies in the same one which has happened, forcing you to choose which one to sacrifice since you can't catch both
I get worried about such things, too, and with me, I tend to be worried about getting in trouble if I use a trick or glitch or something, so I tend not to.
My favorite method is Pokemon Go, lol. If you live next to a stop or gym and own a PoGo+ or Pokéball+, you can just stand there and hold the button down to farm endlessly. It's cheap, yes, but it works... on the Pokémons that are in season, that is.
SOS hunting was the first method I ever used and got some of my favorite shinies. Got a full shiny team, but my three favorites are def my metagross, liligant, and Salazzle
Gen 6 was when I got into shiny hunting and I did it a LOT! I got so many shinies through DexNav and Chain Fishing (my favorites being my Eevee turned Sylveon and Carvanha turned Sharpedo) and I even got a shiny Charmeleon from a Friend Safari! Oddly enough I still haven't gotten a shiny through sparkling sandwiches in SV, all of my shinies on there have been either random encounters (some with and some without the shiny charm) or when I was doing outbreaks and would end up with a random shiny instead of the one I wanted
I've always been concerned with the Switch's flash memory. Flash memory has a certain lifespan that is impacted by the amount of reads and writes it performs. With the amount of times games autosave now, I'm very paranoid that my Switch or other systems will die much sooner than expected, especially with soft resetting being taken into account.
Catch Combos in Let's Go and SwSh are not the same. In Let's Go after Catch Combo 31, all Pokémons has boosted shiny rate, but the Pokémon you combed appears more in the wild. So, to make it simple, you catch combo a Weedle 31 times, then you get plenty of Weedles, but sometimes you can encounter Pidgeys, too. Both Weedles and Pidgeys have the boosted shiny rate. In SwSh after KO-ing 500 of the same species, ONLY brilliant Pokémon (the ones that shine and give Watts when you defeat them) have the boosted shiny rate of 1/512
You actually missed a few things. For Let's go, you need to continuously catch mons unlike previously thought where you just sit around at a catch combo of 31. With SOS hunting you can easily simplify the issue by giving a Trevenant with the ability Harvest Skill Swap and Trick while its holding a Leppa Berry to give the caller infinite PP (like a very low chance of it running out completely). This also works with an Alolan Exeggutor with Bestow and Skill Swap. Last thing I will say is actually SRs in USUM for shiny legendaries I would say is by far better and more efficient than Dynamax Adventures, considering you can do one reset every 20-30 seconds meanwhile one encounter with the dynamax adventures is like 12 minutes, and that isn't even a guarantee to defeat the final raid den boss if you get unlucky with Pokemon selection. So assuming it takes the full number of encounters per method, it will be under 12 hours to get a shiny legendary from soft resetting assuming the least optimal resets vs 20 hours to get a shiny from Dynamax adventures (assuming it is the legendary you are targeting).
I love shiny hunting in Gen 9, even though I don’t use the outbreak or breeding methods. I almost never get anything from outbreaks, even with sandwich boosts, and I admittedly can’t get used to the whole “wait around to get eggs” part of breeding since it feels like I need to do something that I’m not in order to get results. But that being said, I’ve gotten over 125 shinies from hunting in the overworld, whether it’s with a sandwich boost, or even just running around. A couple times, sandwiches have given me 5 shinies in the allotted 30 minutes, but I’m surprised I’ve found so many without a boost. In the first day of the dlc, I found 4 shinies, 3 of which were in the span of 15 minutes!
I actually do like SOS chaining because after 40 knock outs you get 3 perfect IVs if I am not wrong. All shinies I caught with SOS have superb IVs compared to other methods
There is actually a bug with Sword and Shield's battle combo method where the increased rates only apply, at best, 3% of the time. The article that says this method exists is lying to the player.
Gen 7 breeding system was absolutely broken. You can actually predict the RNG to guarantee when you get shiny, natures, or a High IV pokemon, Thanks PKHex for teaching me this
I used to enjoy the Let's Go catch combo, but I've been burned too much by it recently to want to touch it for a hot minute. I too also despise soft resetting. Which is tragic because I currently have a shiny darkrai hunt on my Platinum that's been ongoing for over two years now. My current favorite would have to be ScarVi sandwich hunting along with SoS/horde hunting being tied for second. Lately though if I've been having some rough luck I just go to one of my cute charm glitch games for pity shinies to make the serotonin flow a little easier some days.
My favorite is Sandwich/Outbreak hunting in SC/VI but I also really like SRs. You can just SR while you're doing ANYTHING work/household/streaming whatever which is amazing IMO. I do want to try horde hunting though but I didn't play during GEN 6&7
You forgot -mystery gift shiny (technically a method since you get some shiny out of that, just need for the right day and for some, right locations) -Pokémon go events (some events in that game increase specific Pokémon shiny odds and they can be transferred to main games) -set shiny (gyarados in HGSS, haxorus gible or dratini in BW2, ponyta in LA & munchlax in SV DLC)
Quite a bit of people have failed shinies via soft resetting over them, it’s definitely not the most uncommon thing in the world LMAOO CandyEvie’s treecko one is iconic
One of the best mehtods to me is chain fishing i got in a single day 6 shinies, one of the worst are the hordes due to the lack of variety i have a box full of zigzagoons and never found a shiny poochyena in my Alpha Sapphire !
3:54 It can work well with Feebass since those are the only pokemon spawning under that bridge in ORAS. But yeah, other than that, this method is fishy.
JPR I regret to inform you that the Let's go catch combo and the Briliant Pokemon methods are not well explained. The catch combo method is you catching Pokemon consecutively until a shiny pops. The extra rolls apply to the next Pokemon spawned of the chained species; the odds cap at catch combo 31. Brilliant Pokemon are interesting. In SwSh the game tracks how many Pokemon the player defeats. The number impacts the likely hood of brilliant Pokemon spawning and the shiniesness of the Brilliant mon. To save people the headache, go for battles fought 100, this gives the max odds of a brilliant Pokemon spawning, and such the most efficient way to get a shiny.
sos hunting gets miles easier with a trevenant what you wanna do is find a phantump with harvest (friend safari and sosing, funnily enough), evolve it, then teach it skill swap and trick, then you give it a leppa berry do you see where im going here
Even though it can be time consuming and boring, I'll always defend the Masuda method, because the frist shiny I ever got in a legit copy of the game was a Larvitar back in X. All I wanted was to have one to train through my adventure and I didn't realize it was a shiny at first because it looked normal to me, until I actually sent it into battle and heard the distinct noise. I checked and both the Ditto and the Tyranitar were from different regions. And since, I've gotten a full part of shinies from this method alone in Sun, alongside a Tauros which I wasn't sure if it was different since I was mindlessly grinding my team and noticed there was something off about it. I wouldn't have noticed had he not called for help from another, stronger Tauros. All things considered, that method has gotten me the most shinies ever. I'll always stand by it.
Sword and shield massacre Method (thats what i like to call it) does only increase the shiny odds of the sparkly mons, and if u chain kill the mons the chance of sparkly spawns increase aswell.
I used to use Sweet Scent to get hoards of Pokémon without having to move from the spot I was in - though I did tragically fail a shiny wingul with this method
I never really got shiny hunting.. I think the fun of shinies is that they show up unexpectedly during your playthrough. Actively seeking them out for hours on end defeats the whole purpose of a shiny imo.
As someone who has shiny hunted for years these are my list from best to worst 1. Chain fishing; easy and super fun 2. Soft resetting: very time consuming but easy to just do the background 3. Outbreaks; super fun and easy in legends 4. SOS hunting. Also fun and very interactive 5. Poke radar: a little pain to figure out but once you get the hang of it it is a fun method 6. Friend safari: super easy way to get shinies 7. Encounter hunting in sword and shield I’ve never actually done it 8. Dynamax adventures: are such a pain! Take way too long per encounter and it isn’t guaranteed to get the legendary 9. Dex nav hunting: man have I had the worst luck with this hunting style. Fun to sneak up on Pokémon though 10. Masuda method: the bane of my existence lol. It’s boring, time consuming and my least favorite method by far! Only exception to this is gen two with a shiny ditto while no way to increase the hatch rate the odds are fantastic. Oh and honorable mention I guess is the wormhole encounters from USUM. I’m pretty neutral as I have gotten some shines with it, the mini game can be kind of hard though. But yeah that’s my list!
Sandwiches are definitely the best and easiest shiny hunting method I’ve ever done. I don’t think I’ve ever made a shiny sandwich and not got what I was looking for
My favorite definitely has to be Max Raid Adventures. Playing around with the RNG, making use of what you got, trying to plan out a route, and the surprise factor when you do get a shiny is very fun. Also just love getting a huge amount of legendries shiny. Managed to get Necrozma and Lugia so far from that method.

Soft resetting and masuda method are hunting methods i hardly have the patience for. after like,,, 80 eggs i just quit and forget abt it. SOS and pokenav hunting are decent imo, SOS in particular works well for me since its the method i've gained the most shinies from.
unfortunately, some of those methods are not blind friendly, for example dinamax adventures, DexNav, horde hunting, and currently anything passed Gen7.
Sandwich hunting is my favorite since you can also make it so only certain Pokémon spawn. I tried so hard to get a shiny female Indeedee in SwSh, and using a single sandwich in SV I managed to catch TWO of them.
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t “chain battling” in SwSh broken for a while? Like it didn’t actually increase your odds at all? My personal favorite is sos chains because I’ve accidentally gotten two shinies from it when I wasn’t even hunting for them. One being Bagon since I was trying to get the rare Salamence spawn for my Pokédex and the other being Chansey since I constantly grind those to level up stuff (also usually for the Pokédex). @@alaskanpyro2931Legendaries & Ultra Beasts do not have their shiny odds increased the further you go. The game determines if a Pokémon is shiny the moment you enter a wormhole for all non legendary/UB. But for legendary/UB, the game doesn’t do that and you can SR as many times as needed
Even if there’s only around 20 or so, all of them have really nice shinies. Especially Crustle and Altaria
I remember getting really lucky in s.o.s method and got a shiny Mareanie in under 30
I remember some of the cool things about SOS hunting, that was where I started shiny hunting a lot more often.
I got about 8 shinies in Violet dlc since it came out and the worst was Tandemaus as it barely changes
Thanks for including the friend safari 😂
I just got a shiny alpha gligar from soft resetting today, been trundling away at it since before ScaVi came out. 889 resets. Was so excited I forgot to take a screen recording of the encounter until 15 minutes later lol. Good method for when you want to watch movies etc and I’d take it over the dynamax adventures only because those things take way to long for MAYBE one encounter assuming you successfully take down the legendary if the npcs don’t faint too many times
I outbreak hunt in Scarlet and Violet without using Herba Mystica, just KO 60 Pokémon and have the Shiny Charm. I just can't be bothered to get more.
9:30 I didn't expect Buttercupxo to show up. She's great ^^
I know it's not the focus of the video, but I love the Jellyfish Fields sign in the background @ 0:34. And also shout out to aDrive at 3:02.
As a gen 6 lover, I think it actually did a lot of things right, and the methods mentioned in the video are one example of that
I love the different ways your avatar pops up each video.
Gen 6 plus definitely made shinies more common my first shiny was a granbull in xy. Really helped me cope during the bank hype
I have played Pokémon for over 20 years now, and I have never found a single shiny legitimately
When I played Pokémon Moon and started to complete the Pokedex, I use the SOS method to get a Snorlax and instead of that I got a shiny Munchlax... that was my first shiny... then the file got corrupted and had to restart it. 😂
As someone who shiny hunts in Colosseum... one word; PAIN.
Nice to see Adrive in there I swear you poketuber's reference each other as he referenced Bird Keeper Toby in a recent video
5:17 Garchomp's shiny's pretty nice. Can't believe people still rag on it, after it's clear improvement.
"You get so in the habit of soft resetting whenever you see a pokemon I know someone has accidentally reset after getting a shiny"
*cries a little*
SOS hunting was the first method I ever used and got some of my favorite shinies. Got a full shiny team, but my three favorites are def my metagross, liligant, and Salazzle
Haven't done a whole lot of shiny hunting myself, but when I do it's usually the Masuda method
Good Vid JPR :)
In SwSh after KO-ing 500 of the same species, ONLY brilliant Pokémon (the ones that shine and give Watts when you defeat them) have the boosted shiny rate of 1/512
Never been a shiny hunter until SV. I don’t have the charm yet but I shiny hunted iron hands and got him in about 45 minutes which was so exciting
Masuda was my option in Gen 6. Getting a good shiny that was competitive was for sure one of my favorite pass times in that era.
My favorite is Sandwich/Outbreak hunting in SC/VI but I also really like SRs. You can just SR while you're doing ANYTHING work/household/streaming whatever which is amazing IMO. I do want to try horde hunting though but I didn't play during GEN 6&7
Poke radar is actually really fun to use the only thing I don’t like about it is that your chain can randomly break
You forgot
-mystery gift shiny (technically a method since you get some shiny out of that, just need for the right day and for some, right locations)
-Pokémon go events (some events in that game increase specific Pokémon shiny odds and they can be transferred to main games)
-set shiny (gyarados in HGSS, haxorus gible or dratini in BW2, ponyta in LA & munchlax in SV DLC)
Quite a bit of people have failed shinies via soft resetting over them, it’s definitely not the most uncommon thing in the world LMAOO
CandyEvie’s treecko one is iconic
One of the best mehtods to me is chain fishing i got in a single day 6 shinies, one of the worst are the hordes due to the lack of variety i have a box full of zigzagoons and never found a shiny poochyena in my Alpha Sapphire !
9:16 I'm pretty sure it's glimmer farming but yeah that requires defeating so many of one it's annoying. I did it once...
Chain fishing was how I got my first a Magikarp bur second was a random Gligar and my Gliscor is to this day my favorite Pokémon.
Dex nav from oras, horde hunting in gen 6 and sos battle were absolute best for me. Sos being my fav
To save people the headache, go for battles fought 100, this gives the max odds of a brilliant Pokemon spawning, and such the most efficient way to get a shiny.
sos hunting gets miles easier with a trevenant
what you wanna do is find a phantump with harvest (friend safari and sosing, funnily enough), evolve it, then teach it skill swap and trick, then you give it a leppa berry
do you see where im going here
Even though it can be time consuming and boring, I'll always defend the Masuda method, because the frist shiny I ever got in a legit copy of the game was a Larvitar back in X.
My favorite Shiny Hunting methods are Dexdav Chaining and Horde Encounters. I tried SOS Chaining in Pokémon Moon but I never got the hang of it :\
10:25 at least you can use adrenaline orbs to increase the chance of the call
Full odds random encounters only over here. Guess it can be favorite and not at the same time.
As someone who has shiny hunted for years these are my list from best to worst
1. Chain fishing; easy and super fun
2. Soft resetting: very time consuming but easy to just do the background
3. Outbreaks; super fun and easy in legends
4. SOS hunting. Also fun and very interactive
5. Poke radar: a little pain to figure out but once you get the hang of it it is a fun method
6. Friend safari: super easy way to get shinies
7. Encounter hunting in sword and shield I’ve never actually done it
8. Dynamax adventures: are such a pain! Take way too long per encounter and it isn’t guaranteed to get the legendary
9. Dex nav hunting: man have I had the worst luck with this hunting style. Fun to sneak up on Pokémon though
Sad that there are no mentions of Curry Hunting in Sword and Shield
It can be tedious, yes, but you CAN get a Shiny out of it from what I can recall
Sandwiches are definitely the best and easiest shiny hunting method I’ve ever done. I don’t think I’ve ever made a shiny sandwich and not got what I was looking for
With the shiny resting SmallAnt did it in one of his videos where he was only using shiny Pokemon and at one point reset on a shiny
Brooo you had clips from the Justin Flynn omgg I miss that dude!!!! He got me into chain fishing in Xy I miss him soo much!! Glad folks got clips of that man!!!
That sandwich "animation" is so horrible, that no matter how easy it is, it still feels wrong
I went through over 2000 eggs hatching a shiny Fuecoco with the masuda method. I’ve had more than one MM hunt go over 1000 lol
ugh, yeah, i've soft reseted over a shiny before, a shiny bulbasaur in pokemon firered to be exact. :,) And I also have that fear. I have to say, horde hunting is one of my favorite shiny hunting methods. Soft resetting and masuda method are hunting methods i hardly have the patience for. after like,,, 80 eggs i just quit and forget abt it. SOS and pokenav hunting are decent imo, SOS in particular works well for me since its the method i've gained the most shinies from.
unfortunately, some of those methods are not blind friendly, for example dinamax adventures, DexNav, horde hunting, and currently anything passed Gen7.
that candyevie clip never gets old
Sandwich hunting is my favorite since you can also make it so only certain Pokémon spawn. I tried so hard to get a shiny female Indeedee in SwSh, and using a single sandwich in SV I managed to catch TWO of them.
Remember DRIVING THE BUS ANYONE?🤣
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t “chain battling” in SwSh broken for a while? Like it didn’t actually increase your odds at all?
My personal favorite is sos chains because I’ve accidentally gotten two shinies from it when I wasn’t even hunting for them. One being Bagon since I was trying to get the rare Salamence spawn for my Pokédex and the other being Chansey since I constantly grind those to level up stuff (also usually for the Pokédex).
Also hate to be that guy but you forgot the ultra warp ride. Got my first shiny thru that
Chain fishing is my favorite as I never understand that Pokeradar thing from Sinnoh it was the first that gave me shinies (after a full odds in LeafGreen when I was a kid and the red gyarados in Gold of course)
0:35 Did you move into a new house.
I have a soft spot for chain fishing, it was the first one I did on an official game. Red Clauncher hype
