I'm almost 38. I'm not so old, but at this stage of life you have developed strong musical foundations that are difficult to break. It's quite hard to find something that redefines, surprise and revamp your musical ways. The Ocean Collective achieves that. The perfect balance between a heavy sound that makes you want to mosh everywhere as well as you are healing inside. I really love the work of this guys.
Almost 38 too. hehehe 😁 I agree with all you said. They keep progressing and balancing quite well all their influences, past and present. And I'll throw one more thing that's quite interesting. With their albums you, imo, learn something new, like different world views and beliefs, the layers of the ocean, the geological eras of our planet, etc. Learning this stuff has never been this good. 😄

It‘s crazy to think that Robin nearly drowned at this beach directly after filming the video. I am just happy he was rescued and can keep producing music that touches my every fibre. All the best to these guys! I like the new direction they are headed to.

Such an epic conclusion of the Holocene concept. Loïc vocals are powerful than ever and Paul's drumming is exquisite. Surprised that this one is also a "oceanized" version of SHRVL's Response, which is a song I can't stop listening since its release.
SHRVL is the Oceans Synth player Peter Voigtmann doing a reimagining of the musical concepts of Holocene. There will be a whole album reimagining Holocene called Limbus. It’s basically the ocean stripped down for specific exploration of certain concepts under specific conditions. Mostly aimed at focusing on the synth work. It will be a such a tasty dessert when this album comes out. And oh man I didn’t even know about the 24 minute song that supposed to be at the end of the album. THAT is going to be fucking interesting
@@GrapeFlavoredAntifreeze absolutely! I'm so excited for Limbus as well. EP I was very beautiful, so I'm pretty sure Peter did a wonderful work with his debut album

@Barry Adams After thinking, I think I still prefer it following the Shamayim fade in. Edit: Lyrically, Anthropocentric would make more sense as a follow-up. With the mention of "The Old Man" in both Subatlantic and Grand Inquisitor II, and the idea that humans are the end of the chain.
@@SeizedAlarm The vibraphone introduced at 2:57 is on point to the one in Shamayim. And the riff at 4:46 sounds similar to the intro riff of She Was the Universe. And I love the Cambrian theme being played like as if it was like a distant echo or an old memory. Like the resonance is still present from the Explosion but since time has passed the resonance is faint. I hope the album does lead into Heliocentric, because I think that was first release if im not mistaken. My Mind Would Infinity Explode if they do that.
The ebb and flow of it reminds me of She Was the Universe. The way he sings “Don’t act as if you were unaware of what lies ahead” is very similar to how he sings “I had a dream, which was not all a dream, the sun was extinguished, and the stars wandered darkling in space”

To me it feels like a mix between progressive/post-metal and more sludge metal styles. For suggestions around the more synth styled sounds I would suggest Leprous, The Ocean opened for them in 2022 on their US tour which how I found out about them. They're more mellow prog-metal/rock with a lot of amazing synth sounds
Agree, (older) Leprous would be the closest thing. Leans a bit more to alt metal than post metal, but has the synths, doominess and mix of clean and harsh vocals. Coal, Congregation and Malina albums specifically
